Ernie Ball Pickey Pickeys Metal Finger Picks, 24-pack (P09220)

Now here's the deal, I had bought a set of picks a couple of years ago when I had planned on starting to learn the banjo but hey life gets in the way. Got my first banjo this year from Santa took those picks off the shelf and started practicing. These were plectrum and looked similar to Shappy's. Problem was they were supposed to be adjustable however I had to use pliers to start using them. Needless to say I wanted some new picks. I had seen these picks mentioned more than once in what I had read and watched so far and I decided to try them out. Came in today and the difference is just unreal. I may have only been practicing for 3 days but I've already got 2 or 3 rolls memorized and the ease of plucking when using these as opposed to the others is crazy. The sound is awesome. Now I've seen a bunch of reviews here complaining about these picks being thin and they are but it doesn't matter. The others were thicker and would slide and I'd have to push down on something to get them back in place. These adjust easily and when you put them on they DO NOT MOVE!!! So unless your plucking a hacksaw its going to be fine. I'd say the only issue is you have to order two dozen but hey they are well worth the money and now I've got plenty should I lose one.

Jim Pankey uses them then so do I. But seriously, I really enjoy using these. They sound fantastic and are very durable keeping their shape.

I wasn’t sure I’d like these picks and was annoyed to have to buy two dozen of them, but it turns out I love them and keep a couple with each of my instruments. I have high end fingerpicks costing $30 or more a pair, but these are the ones I use on my professional level guitar, resonator guitars, and banjos. Why? If I always picked in such a way that the tip of my fingerpicks hit the strings at a 90° angle, I might choose other picks, but that is seldom the case. More often, they are closer to a 45° angle. That means that the conventional pick slides off to the side a little while picking, and that decreases the “attack,” the hard immediacy of the note. The design of the Ernie Ball Picky Pick tip means that the attack is always sharp. Try these and see the difference. This is just as important for dobro as for banjo. In both cases my ears tell me I’m getting more volume, perhaps because the volume comes faster. I’m not sure. I find that these come already well shaped for my fingers, but it is easy to squeeze them a little smaller if necessary or open them a little. It’s possible to push them right up to the finger tips and catch a little flesh along with the pick, sometimes nice with acoustic guitar, but I aim for about 1/8” of space between the pick and my finger tip. For a thumb pick, I use Fred Kelly Delrin Speed Picks, medium. Same reason: fast, immediate attack and maximum volume. (Yes, much better than Blue Chip thumb picks, though less comfortable.)

I know a professional banjo player who loves these, so I tried them out. They are quality, no doubt. But I can't get used to the pick edge at the end. I think the amount of pick they give is generous. I think the quality is good. I just don't like them for me! Sorry! I kept them and I will give them to students and other banjo players so they can try them. But I'm using more traditional metal picks. On the other hand, I am using many other Ernie Ball Products and strings and I like them.

These picks are perfect for me. Three-finger banjo picking. I’m early on in my journey, but over the last several months have tried all types of finger picks and these are the finest. For my thumb, I use a propik (m), and that is the best so far for that digit. I tried plastic picks (calico, golden gate), and even the more expensive Blue Chip. But, the Propik’s lightness and shorter pick profile won me over. So that’s a perfect combo, for me.

I like these type of picks better than the spoons.

These are the best picks I have ever used.. Although there are similar ones to look at, These picks stand far sbove.. From the moment I put them on, they felt so comfortable, I hardly felt they were on, they don't slide off unlike others...even when playing for a while, I use them for Bluegrass banjo..so they get put through ther paces..well worth the money.

I'm so happy to find these again. They are so much better than ANY other finger picks. I thought they were discontinued or existed only in Europe but I'm saved. Thank you
