Do you have to dilute?

Definitely. This is a concentrate. Follow directions for dilution mixture depending on insect involved requiring application.

I noticed a couple of answers where it was used prior to a cookout for mosquitos. Could someone please explain this in greater detail please?

if used as directed you will get rid off all bugs where applied. I bought this product for ticks but it has also reduced the mosquitos and flies in my backyard. I originally bought a dyna trap which I usually have to clean out 3 times a year but this year after applying hi yield 38 the trap only has a couple of moths and mosquitos in it.

what mix ratio for ant control?

It comes with a detailed instructions booklet for each application. For fleas it was like 3 oz per gallon. Can't imagine ants being more. Try food grade Diatomaceous Earth for ants. It is not poisonous to humans or animals. You can eat it. A 50 lb bag is $30-35 and will last you for ever.

can it be applied with a hose sprayer?

I guess it can, but this stuff is brutal on all insects including bees and other beneficial insects. I would not generally spray everything with a hose sprayer unless you intend to kill everything in that spray area.

This stuff has saved me THOUSANDS of dollars on pest control companies!! Permanently got rid of termites on more than one house that I've used it on. And I spray the perimeter of my house once a year and have almost no bug problems! I'll keep on buying this stuff.

Army worms be gone!

Kills and keeps future worms away. All creepy crawlers (ants, beetles, worms) died quickly. But didn’t kill frogs and lizards in my yard which I was happy for. Weird to measure correct amount for large mixture but we now have plastic cup set aside marked at ratio. Have used two years in row and saved our yard where granular of other types didn’t work. Little pricy at first glance but way cheaper than new lawn!
