Colt: The Revolver of the American West

This is an excellent book that features beautiful photography.

Don't get me wrong, the book is ok and the photographs are crisp and clear. BUT, Jeffrey could have done so much more with it. Instead of taking advantage of all the cool stuff in the Gene Autry museum collection and follow the lead of guys like Larry Wilson and Dennis Adler, there is only the guns and a few other items on a neutral background. It wouldn't have hurt to place those wonderful guns with saddles, knives, holsters and other nice things of that era. Guys who are into "guns of the wild west" love that.

Frankly, I was disappointed with the book. The descriptions of Colt Single Action Army Model 1873 revolvers only contained the serial number. The caliber, year of manufacture, copies of provenance paper work, etc. were not included. As a student of this revlover, since obtaining my first one in 1961, I know that, before SN 41,000, all were chambered for .45 Colt. A few of the pictures were of the left side of the guns, and therefore, the caliber marking could be decerned, but over a dozen are unknoiwn. The description page is mostly a brief biographical sketch of the owner, and tells little, or nothing, on how he obtained the gun. Also absent is any information on how the museum obtained the guns. This book is mainly just a catalog of guns owned by the museum.

Explaining the history's in such great details. Jeffery Richardson's description is good very good detail. So much detail I have not made it past the 50 th page but I have only had it a month.

Great book.

This was a great gift for a special gun collector. He enjoyed the read immensely. Would definitely recommend for Colt enthusiasts.
