Silverback Speaker Wire by Sewell with Silverback Banana Plugs, 10 ft ,12 AWG, OFC, 259 Strand Count, Terminated

Update 12/24/2025: Still the best, in my experience. Just bought some new Sewell Silverback speaker wires with banana plugs for my new set up - after several years of good success with my old set up. They are still truly outstanding with my Sony STR-ZA 3000ES (vintage 2016) and SSCS5 speakers. Update 11-22-2018 re: additional Silverback wire purchased for Sony SSCS5 surround speakers also from Amazon/World Wide Stereo in our newly expanded 5.1 set up: I recently purchased a 100-foot spool of Sewell Silverback 12 AWG speaker wire to install our two new Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers as the surround speakers on 36-inch Pangea stands in our nearly all-Sony home theater with STR-ZA3000ES receiver, SSCS5's also at front L and R, SSCS8 for center, and SACS9 for subwoofer. To run the farthest surround speaker required 50 feet of wire that I routed along the baseboards. The SSCS5 is rated at 6 Ohms, so with such a long run of wire, I felt 12 AWG was a safe bet to ensure great sound. For the nearer speaker, I used the remaining 50 feet of Silverback wire. I measured and confirmed 100 feet of wire on the spool, as advertised. Verdict: Success! Phenomenally beautiful, powerful, and dynamic sound from all Sony Core Series speakers, Sony STR-ZA3000ES receiver, and Sewell Silverback 12 AWG wire in 5.1 set up that just keeps getting better and better. Jaw-dropping sound nearing my standard of perfection that I am thoroughly convinced can be attributed to thorough and tedious homework, purchasing the right quality components, and ensuring their best placement in our home theater/den space. Details do matter, as far as I can tell. One of those details, Sewell Silverback wire, is excellent wire in our home theater set up. At minimum, I know that it is of very high quality, and I am certainly confident that the stunning sound we are hearing is the best that we can possibly get from our extremely capable Sony and Sony ES components. No doubt about it. Original review re: 6-foot lengths of Silverback wire with banana plugs: Great product of high quality that I highly recommend. The Sewell Silverback 12 AWG cables fit perfectly and work great with my Sony STR-ZA3000ES AV receiver and Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers on 31-inch stands. The highly-regarded and renowned Core Series speakers sound great anyway, but with these excellent speaker cables in the audio chain, they just sing and sing again like there is no tomorrow! I believe it only stands to reason that the true quality of these interconnects, including quantity and quality of pure oxygen-free copper strands helps make for true quality in the delivery of the intended sound from the source. I was very pleased with the quality of the cables. I ordered 4 10' cables, and I had a similar experience to other reviewers with respect to some the banana plugs being randomly loose when I received them. Can't say I can figure out why this is, as it is simply a matter of just finishing screwing them tight with your hand. I did fully unscrew and remove the banana plug outer casing on several of the plugs to examine how the plug is attached to the cable, and to check out the raw cable itself. I was impressed to find that the banana plug itself is attached to the cable by two separate threaded screws on opposites sides and ends of the shaft, and held approximately 1/3 to 1/2 inch of the exposed cable wire. All of the banana plugs that I opened up were very well clamped down on the wire by these two screws despite some of the outer casings simply not being hand screwed all the way to not rattle, etc. Also, having handled a fair amount of wire and cable in my day, this wire does appear to indeed by 12 AWG as advertised (I've noted reviews of some other cables here were purchasers were skeptical that their product was really the advertised gauge, so figured I'd offer that observation that these seem to be). As for working with the cables themselves, they were easy to get to lay pretty flat once uncoiled, and the banana plugs fit very securely in both my speaker posts (Fluance XL7F tower speakers and Fluance XLC7 center channel) as well as my receiver (Onkyo TX-NR3009). Sound quality was noticeably improved from some older Monster cable that I had been using previously. I highly recommend these cables for the value the represent--the quality is very good and this is overall a very worthwhile overall purchase!

Be ware they are really short but my 8 in sub and one front speaker bangs .They opened it up a bit solid connection , I should have gotten the 6 ft 8ft or 10 ft cables though but where i had the speakers it worked and the other cable i have is micca 14 gauge and sounds good not a big difference unless you really crank it . Then you will see the difference .The banna plugs seemed secure and you can always up grade later if you like . GREAT PRODUCT. GET 6 FT IF YOU WANT 3 FT EACH CABLE, 3 FT LEFT AND 3 ft RIGHT . I ordered 3 ft and got 1 and half foot of cable for left and 1 and half for right . I used one for a sub and one for the right speaker until I can get a 6 ft cable for the left front speaker .I have them connected to a Fosi Bt 30 pro with 2 Magnat 6 and half 3 ways 165 watts rms and one Magnat 8 inch sub Its really loud for a one bedroom apartment . I wanted to upgrade from speaker wire to speaker cable for some time, after pouring over the many reviews of many cable makers I decided to pull the trigger for a pair of Silverbacks. The wire I replaced was fairly standard 14G Monster Cable that worked well but I felt I might benefit from a different cable. The Silverbacks are heavy thick cables that are well constructed and easy to work with and look great. Like some other reviewers have noted they do have a bit of a bandaid oder but only if you place them right up to your nose, I have not noticed any offensive odor in my room after installation and am quite happy with the quality. I can't truly say they made a huge difference in sound however I feel they just seemed to dial everything in on my rig. I have a modest set up Marantz 7007 receiver, pair of Adcom GFA 555 amps, Carver A400 amp and Polk SDA 1c in the front, Polk LSIC in the center and Polk LSI FX bringing up the rears. I am quite impressed with the quality these cables delivered and even happier over the price vs performance. I highly recommend auditioning for the price, if they don't work for your set up you didn't rape your bank account to find out. Happy listening!

This speaker wire is everything you need for the best connection. The wire itself is 12GA 100% stranded COPPER wire. The jacket is sturdy without being too stiff to snake around your system. The screw on Banana Plug casings are all metal and appear to be made from aluminum. The wire is secured to the gold flashed plug via two screw down crimps. This is not the best solution ( I prefer high pressure machine clamping) which may not be possible at this price point but, will get the job done very well. I do suggest giving each screw a little twist just be be sure they are completely tight before installation. Each plug is marked for polarity red for positive and black for negative. The price is outstanding, especially for the quality or the product. Do not be fooled by the rantings, charts and graphs and the endless B******T hype presented by usual CABLE BANDITS like A********T, M******R , K*********E and all the others.!!!!! These are as good as any of the over priced brand names. Save some money and buy more LP's. Never mind what your cable snob friends might think. Just tell them they cost $20.00 per foot. They will never know!!!! I too once drank the Kool Aid too and bought all those ":high end " cables. Now after many years in this hobby (50) have learned that the "cable science" is BS. Also, don't be put off by the "made in China label". Guess where many of the the "big boys" source their cable from- CHINA. Rest assured that Sewell make a great product and from what I have seen, they maintain good quality control......Please NO hate comments. This is my opinion only and your mileage may vary. No, it's not hype. The minute I exchanged my existing wires (which were not in themselves inexpensive), my system immediately sounded better. I was really quite surprised. In fact, QUITE surprised. The only reason I had gone with these new Silverback cables is that I needed new banana plugs on my existing wires, and trying to sort out what fit best, what had the highest quality, etc, I just reasoned that, for nearly the same amount of money, I could just purchase these new cables pre-fitted. So, I honestly wasn't expecting any real difference, but when I turned my system back on (I'm using a Yamaha VX-3000 with a set of four NHT SB3 speakers), I was jolted with amazement. The richness and clarity was significantly different, and then my next response was, Why didn't I do this YEARS ago? At any rate, these really do sound fantastic. They are very heavy, very high quality. They come wrapped in a curl that will probably take a day or two to fully straighten out. The come wrapped in a sealed plastic bag with twist ties to hold the cables in place during shipping. The end plugs are the very highly rated Sewell plugs which are silver in color, with red and black markers for polarity. I believe the silver coating is non-conductive in nature so you should not have to worry about shorts if the cables touch (which they should not, anyway). I highly recommend these cables. Make sure you measure what length you need before you order: it is very easy to under or overestimate cable length needs, and you can either end up with cables to short too use or spend too much on cable lengths you don't need. This is an easy five star recommendation.

The cables are excellent quality, but I bought an open box set and the person who had returned them had obviously both damaged one plug and removed two of the metal screw caps. I have other sets and will continue to buy and recommend them- but the open box experience was disappointing.

As i stated above, you simply won't find a better cable for the money. These work amazingly well and made a very noticeable difference in my set-up. I am using a Pro-ject Expression 2.0 turntable with a Grado Green cartridge (new stylus this month), a Carver CT-23 preamp and a Parasound HC-750 amp with Paradigm Triton V3 speakers (refoamed last fall) on 24" stands. Former cables were DIY 12 AWG. My first audition was Guy Clark's 'My favorite picture of you' on vinyl. There was a definite expansion of the sound stage, particularly in terms of depth in the stereo imaging. The bass was much punchier but in a good way. I listen to primarily acoustic music and the added tightness and punch to the low end resembles listening to a well tuned kick drum rather than a muted one. The other notable difference was a much clearer mid range that prior to these cables was missing from my system sometimes causing cymbals and high frequency, high resonance sounds (example: the duo vocals with him and Emmy Lou Harris on the song 'Heroes') to approach 'tinniness' or sound harsh. With these cables in place the two vocals hold their position and uniqueness with Guy's scratchy voice sounding like it should and Emmy Lou's ringing though clear as a bell in solid mid-tone range. Second audition was Bright Eyes 'Cassadega' on CD and I heard a sound stage that had never been revealed to me before. Amazingly well recorded guitar work with extensive intsrumentation and perfectly recorded vocals. Lastly I returned to vinyl and listened to Miles Davis, 'Kind of Blue'. All I can say is the horns sound like they are in my living room. I have been happily impressed with my 'entry-level' hi-fi system for some time but this inexpensive upgrade that took things to a whole new level. Highly recommend to anyone like myself who has a tight budget for their 'toys' and is trying to get the absolute best sound for their money.

Good cable. Give more body and bass to music. However due to the bodily warm sound treble seems to roll off. Very good for bright sounding speakers or amplifiers as this cable can balance off.

Moving from normal cable to this has removed all harshness from sound, improved fine details and also bass. Excellent

I recently upgraded my stereo system with the purchase of a Marantz CD6005 CD player. It occurred to me that the Marantz CD6005's incredible audio performance might be further enhanced by replacing my 16AWG speaker wire. My internet research confirmed my suspicion. From what I've read on audiophile sites, upgrading to 12AWG gauge wire will more than likely -- but not definitely -- result in improved music quality. Monoprice 12AWG gauge wire, which is sold by 50ft lengths, is the product that's usually recommended, due to both its performance and extremely reasonable price. When I factored in the cost of the 12AWG wire, the cost of 2 pairs of 4mm banana connectors (for receiver connection), 2 pairs of 2mm pin connectors (for speaker connection), and the cost of shipping, I was looking at paying out about $40.00CDN. So I started looking around to see if I could purchase a pair pre-cut and terminated speaker cables for around that price. This product -- which only provides cables to connect one speaker per package --- fell in line with this price. The fact that only one cable was included was fine for me, even preferable, since I required two different cable lengths. As for the Silverback Speaker cable itself, its 259 strand count make its copper core exceptionally dense. Intuitively, this increased copper density should provide for improved signal transmission when compared to the 12 or 16 copper strands used in standard 12AWG wire. Did the installation of the Silverback Speaker cable result in a noticeable improvement in audio performance? My "impression" -- I'm using the word "impression" because I wasn't able to directly compare the audio performance of my old 16AWG speaker wire to the Silverback's 12AWG cable, I had to rely upon my recollection of how my speakers sounded -- is that the Silverback cables have improved my system's audio quality, particularly at lower volumes. High frequencies (i.e. bells, cymbals, tings) in particular seem to be clearer, sharper, and more discernible -- once again that's a subjective impression. From what I've read, ANY make of 12AWG gauge speaker cable will make a noticeable improvement in a quality audio system. However, from what I've read, the brand-name, method of manufacture, and/or strand count makes NO discernible difference whatsoever in actual audio performance. When it comes to audio performance, all quality "bare" (meaning pure) 12AWG wire is created equal. So buy the cheapest 12AWG wire you can find and enjoy the audio improvement!!! By the way, one reviewer helpfully suggested checking the Sewell's Silverback cables to ensure that the screws on the banana plugs are properly tightened. I checked the screws on the banana plugs terminating my Silverback cables and sure enough they were a little loose.
