Daddy and the Muscle Academy

This film gave me a new lens into the Leatherman subculture and was really informative. I am a heterosexual male, but one of my best friends is a Leatherman, I have been to about a half dozen Leatherman bars with him, but still did not completely understand the culture, the appeal, or how it started. This film really gave me a much better perspective and told the story of Tom Finland the erotic artist that I knew nothing about other than seeing some of his drawings in some bars. Overall I liked the film and have a better understanding of the subculture and think a better understanding of my friend as well. I recommend this film whether you are a Leatherman or not. Funny side story: The first time I went with my friend to a Leatherman bar I thought we were going to a biker bar, I had no idea what a Leatherman even was, nor did I know my friend was homosexual and at the same time my friend had no idea I was just a biker and professional diver, as he assumed I was a Leatherman and did not know I was heterosexual. At the time it was a shock for both of us, but it made us even better friends, and it opened up my mind to other ways of thinking and understanding, which I think made me a better person.

The "Tom of Finland" documentary/biopic is marginally better and very well acted. For all those interested in the Tom of Finland world of homoerotic fantasy and the times in which it was created, this is a must. The first of these images I ever saw were Xerox copies made in someone's office (we'll guess the boss didn't know). The film is definitely better, as are the comics.

Liked seeing the story behind the man and legend. DVD was good quality and worth the purchase.

I saw the film many, many years ago at the Biograph in Maryland. I was always interested in how the leather guys at the clubs came up with their style. This movie is informative and gave me an insight to a culture I was interested in.

It wasn't clear that this is a DVD. If i knew it, I wouldn't have bought it. I thougt it would be a book.

We liked this documentary very much. Lots of insight into a fascinating life.

The interviews with Tom of Finland are a fascinating chance to hear from the man himself, about his life, his inspiration and his methods. Filmed in his later years, Tom talks at length about his remarkable contribution to erotic art. He comes across as an unassuming and modest man.This DVD includes a picture gallery and other interviews and extras. If you enjoy the work of Tom, this should throw some light on the man behind the artwork.

If you are a fan of Tom of Finland's work this dvd is a must see. A very personal look into his life is supplemented with lots of his work.
