NTC's Dictionary of Spanish Cognates Thematically Organized

What I like about this book is there is an explanation to it. I was able to learn a new word simply because it was a false cognate triggered in my mind by the English word that means something totally different. I used the word minutes later in a text message to a friend when telling my joke in Spanish and he laughed at my joke. This is a must have book. I strongly recommend it

I use this along with the You Tube course Language Transfer: Complete Spanish which is based on using cognates as a foundation and for rapid vocabulary building. I only give it 4 stars because it's heavy on academic language rather than conversational Spanish, but that goes with the territory-- we use Latinate forms as a higher register.

I have to say that if one is a native English speaker, or a native Spanish speaker, this book NTC'S Dictionary of Spanish Cognates is a must for any student who is really serious about learning the language. Both Spanish and English share an abundance vocabulary in common, derived from Greek and Latín. More than 20,000 words, in fact.What a way to increase ones vocabulary by leaps and bounds. This book will teach one how to change out the suffixes to interchange between the two languages like nation and nación, abundance and abundancia, jealous and celoso. This book gives the reader the tools that can make learning enjoyable. I must rate this book at 5 stars.

I bought this guide while I was studying at the university and found it very helpful for improving vocabulary. This book should be required for beginning students of Spanish because there are over 20,000 Spanish-English cognates, making the vocabulary acquisition process much simpler than for non-western languages such as Chinese. I wish I had this book during my study abroad in Costa Rica, I would have learned much more and faster.

The NTC dictionary is all I expected and arrived sooner than I expected. Thanks

This is SO useful. I like the thematic approach -- much easier to find the vocabulary one wants for any given topic.
