I wasn't expecting much of this little tiller, but I was wrong. I live in the mountains, and my lot is a variety of soil types and elevations. I'm using this tiller to cut down dropoffs and make the land slope gradually so I can walk it without turning an ankle. It chews up good soil with no issues and digs as deep as it can. In the rocky areas, I've hit 100s of rocks of all sizes. It'll bounce off the big ones and spit out the smaller ones. No bent tines, no shear pins getting sheared. If you pull it backwards, it'll drag the soil down the slope. I used to own a giant Troybilt gas tiller used in the Illinois farmland. That was gas powered and a PITA to keep running. While this electric tiller isn't nearly as powerful, it's doing much more than I expected and is a great value. In the pictures, that's my front yard. The slope used to be two drop-offs from about 18 inches to 3 feet total. I was able to dig enough out to make a gradual slope. The rocks in the final picture were what was hit by the tiller. Since these were taken, I've removed the railroad ties and sloped that part of the hill too.

More powerful than expected. Works great!

A++! I don't generally write reviews on Amazon, but I must say, I'm pretty darned pleased with how this electric rototiller performs. It was easy to set up out of the box, and runs like a champ. Today, I rototilled my small vegetable garden, a plot of about 35 feet x 20 feet in size, and this tiller did a great job of macerating the soil down to the 8" depth claimed in the product description. The unit seems solid and well-built, and although my soil had a lot of rocks in the 2" - 4" or even 6" size, it powered through the soil beautifully, leaving it very finely tilled. I did have one larger rock get stuck in the tines, and had to use a hammer to get it out. All of the other rocks I encountered were spit out by the tiller. Despite hitting numerous rocks (and I hate to say, even a buried brick, and a buried T-stake!) - the tiller performed perfectly and was undamaged by those objects. The twin handles worked well to provide easy control. Yes, the tiller could bounce a bit when encountering a very tough section of soil or one of those buried rocks or other objects, but was easily controlled. Much easier to use than a gas-tiller, and it had plenty of power, and never bogged down at all (except when the one rock got stuck in the tines). I highly recommend this tiller, and it is a great bargain! Photo included to show the size of my garden.

This thing is Awesome! Super powerful. It reaches down, grabs a rock then tosses it out and keeps on going, it's amazing. However Super hard almost cement like dirt it's not as good.

I was hesitant buying this because I thought electric meant cheap and ineffective. WOW! Was I wrong! It is absolutely fabulous. Seriously I have about 3/4 of an acre and since I got it a few weeks ago I probably tilled a quarter of the lot. One con when I was tilling thick Saint Augustine grass it did get wrapped around the tines and I had to cut it off. Since that initial belt with the grass I have learned to go through the grass wheels down and not get wound up in the grass. I did not experience times when the rotator stopped on its own it did not overheat and is very easy to handle. The handles are adjustable too. I really do like the machine, and I-recommend it wholeheartedly. I was not paid for my review and I didn’t get a free machine either. I paid for it out of my own pocket. I don’t think you will go wrong with this machine.
