brilliant!
I bought this book for my son while I was pregnant with our second baby. Hhe was only 22 months old himself when his little sister arrived but was well prepared for it! She is now 4 months old and I have not had to deal with much jealousy at all and I really do credit this book for it! my son is the kind of boy that graps concepts very well from books and likes to associate himself with characters in his books so this was a wonderful book for him as its written in the first person (little boy's perspective). Its also great as it showed my son that despite the new baby coming he still very much holds his own special place in the family. This book, combined with having his little sister await him in hospital with his favourite chocolate in her hand when he came to visit her for the first time, set them up for a (largely) rivalry free relationship.

excellent book
We bought this book to prepare our 3 year old for the arrival of his new sibling - he loved it and it helped to explain what would happen when the baby arrived. He knows that the baby is too small to do some things and that he has to ask a grown-up if he wants to do something with the baby.Complaints about the American English used are probably fair (reference to diapers) but as my son can't read I just changed the words used.I'd highly recommend this book as a starting point for discussing the arrival of a sibling with a young child.

Better for older toddlers
I bought this book for my 21 month old to explain the concept of his impending sibling! My little boy is not interested in it, I am not sure if it is because it has paper pages that he can't turn or if it is not engaging enough. He loves the book 'My New Baby' though and we often read that!!My personal negatives about the book are that it is very dated looking and shows bottle feeding and not breastfeeding.Perhaps this book would be more suited to older children, but then a book is not needed as much as you can explain the situation to them in a way they can understand anyway!!

Disappointing Gift for my son...not really special
I bought the book for my 18 month old son as a 'special gift' for becoming a special 'big brother' at a special time but this book just didn't seem special to me. This book had a good title but was weak on the inside - For what could be such a special, big, exciting, New life changing time for celebrating becoming a 'big brother' & family and it could have been more fun, cute, exciting but was not, I & my 18 month old son thought the same. Also it was American ('diapers' & 'Mom') in case English was required and had only 'bottle feeding' which I was surprised at in 'this day and age'...tricky if you don't use any bottles. On a positive note, there was a small section at the back for 'parents' which may be of use, tips on tackling emotions of older sibling(s) which may arise...

I'm a big brother
I bought this book as we are expecting our second child and it proved a great buy! It explains to the older child how different life will be with a new baby.
