Why do Amazon's own prices on these swing so wildly, often increasing 50% or more?

I have noticed several buying options here on Amazon with the prices varying greatly. I did math on the amount of bottles and how many ounces were in each bottle to find the best price for the quantity. Some of the other options are way more expensive, but may seem more cost effective due to each bottle containing a larger quantity. Right now, the 24 pack of 6.8oz bottles is the best price, and it is only a little more than $1 less than buying at my local supermarket.

Is this a beverage whose flavor is designed as a mixer, or can it stand on it's own as a soda?

After being introduced to this ginger beer by a friend it's the only carbonated beverage I drink, period! People at the grocery store probably think I'm a lush because I buy 3 or 4 of the 4 packs at a time when I accidentally run out and have to wait for my Prime delivery. Hey, I don't care, a meal isn't the same without this warm gingery libation! The best ginger beer I've ever had, bar none!!

does this contain the ginger root as the ingredient or a ginger extract?

It contains both people. Natural Ginger Flavor is an extract and it's usually made from other ingredients not sourced from ginger i.e. cayenne. Ginger Root is listed before Ginger Flavor but since you need a lot less of an extract to make a difference, my guess would that the "ginger flavor" is really coming from the extract.
