I dyed my hair for my wedding. The red was gorgeous! The dye did wash out rather quick but I’m sure that’s because of the deepness of the red and how much I wash my hair. I’m so pleased with this dark red color and the photos turned out perfect! Keep in mind when looking at the photo that I usually use a much lighter red from Madison Reed and my hair is naturally blonde, so I’m certain that has affected the color. This is a high quality product that comes with a shower cap, good gloves, skin protectant, shampoo and conditioner. All are of good quality!

I’m giving it 3 stars because the color is wonderful. The problem is that it’s been 3 months since I colored my hair and I’m still washing red dye out every time I shower. This is ridiculous. Do not buy this if you don’t want to be washing red out every time you shower.

I’ve always used Japanese foam hair dye before, so this was my first time trying Madison Reed. For context, I’m Asian with naturally black hair (though I dyed it brown about six months ago). Hair dye typically doesn’t work well on my hair unless I leave it on longer than directed. I followed the instructions exactly and kept it on for just 35 minutes since I was a bit nervous trying a new brand. To my surprise, it worked really well—maybe too well! I was going for a subtle hint of red, but I ended up with full-on red hair. Even though the result was more dramatic than I intended, I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out. I have been doing my own hair color for many years. And I’ve use all kinds of products varying from just going to the drugstore. We’re going to Sally’s. By far this has been the most labor-intensive application that I’ve ever done and the reason is because the mix turns almost into a paste like substance. This makes it hard to apply on your hair and it also makes the hair feel tough, almost as if you have over, sprayed your hair with hairspray. What usually takes me about 20 minutes to apply nearly took me an hour. This made it very frustrating because I’m not used to that. Though in the product box, you are given a stain blocker to put around your for head, your ears and neck, I was very worried because I still had some stains where I applied the blocker. But thankfully, after thoroughly washing my hair, the stains went away! Besides that, I am very happy with the results as you can see the color pops, and it almost gives you a little bit of highlights. Will I be purchasing this in the future? I am not sure. Maybe I will try it one more time when it’s time to do a touchup.
