Hello, When using outside, if kept well shaded and watered, it should have no problems up to zone 6. It would need more attention to thrive in higher zones, however. When planting indoors, any zone is fine.

They are called Cladonia Cristatella, or "British Soldier" lichen.

Will these survive in an outdoor garden in upsyate ny?

Hi! If it is shaded by trees (or even at the base of larger plants), it should do well. They will need to be kept from direct sun. They will go dormant in winter and revive in the spring.
