My cats love the bed; but I'm disappointed in the quality of the cover
I keep my house cold in the winter (in the fifty degree range) and wanted to purchase another heated pet bed for my indoor cats. I own two other heated pet beds from different manufacturers. One in particular is fantastic but since I don't know the name of the bed (I purchased it about 15 years ago), I decided to order this one.The heating element comes folded up in a long narrow box and has to be unrolled. Once unrolled, the edges can be inserted into the fleece cover provided. The back of the heating element has an air valve which has to be left in the released position for about 15 minutes after it's plugged in. Once it heats up in that 15 to 20 minutes, all I had to do was push down on the heating element, close the valve, and it was ready to go.At this point it was warm to the touch, so 1 of my 4 cats immediately began using it and 30 minutes later another cat jumped aboard. Since I have 4 cats, I got the large unit which is big enough for all 4 of my 12-16 pound cats to lay on. It is also big enough for a German Shepherd to curl up on; however, it's not big enough for much larger dogs such as Mastiffs, Great Danes, etc. that might want to stretch out.My disappointment with this bed is that I really dislike the fleece cover. It is so thin and cheap that it will probably fall apart after a year. Also, the instructions are contradictory. The box says the bed is for indoor/outdoor use but the instructions say it's for indoor use only. I purchased this only for indoor use and I suspect it is not safe to use outside unless it is in a protected dog house or on a protected porch. Also, the instructions say to "ALWAYS unplug from the outlet when not in use." My pet beds are never unplugged in the winter and they should be designed to remain plugged in even when a cat isn't on it. Since, I've been using electric pet beds for about 15 years, I feel it's safe to leave it plugged in; however, to the uninitiated such a warning can be unnerving.Overall, this bed is a big hit with my cats and a slight disappointment to me mostly because of the terribly cheap and thin cover that was provided.

Great product with one flaw
This is a great product and I highly recommend it. But there is one flaw, the fleece cover is terrible. It does not stay on and I am having to constantly fix it. It is like a fitted sheet and the pad is plastic so it slides around when my dog does the circle to find the perfect spot move. This pad could definitely be designed much better.

It works like a charm.
It works great but the covering is very lightweight and already has 2 large holes. That being said, the dogs like the warmth of the pad. I am looking for some heavier fabric to make another pad for the one that is damaged.

Now our dog can be outside in the winter
Our 13-year old Lab/Whippet mix likes to lie outside on our porch bench all day, watching the world go by. Often, however, it's just too cold for her even with her coat on. This heating pad is exactly what we needed to keep her warm on cool mornings. I use an outdoor extension cord to plug the pad into an outdoor outlet, and then put the pad on the bench. Blackie can now lie outside without shivering and she is obviously very comfortable on her warm pad.I bought the Large size pad and it is plenty big for the dog to stretch out, about the same surface area as one of our large couch cushions. The heating pad comes with a washable lightweight fake sherpa cover that wraps over the ends of the pad. I leave this cover on but also lay an old towel on top for a bit more cushiness and easy cleaning. There's a valve to adjust the amount of air in the pad; this layer of air provides both insulation and cushioning. I want the pad to be slightly bendable to fit my space, so I press out some of the air before sealing the valve. The pad doesn't always feel very warm when I put my hand on it, but if I sit on it for a minute or two I can definitely feel the warmth. It seems to be just the right temperature to keep my short-haired dog warm without creating uncomfortable hot spots. Finally, our pad doesn't make any "crinkly" noises when the dog moves around on it, as mentioned by a previous reviewer. The only slight negative is that the bottom of the pad is a bit slippery and it sometimes slides off the upholstered bench when Blackie jumps down. I think I can fix this by putting some non-slip shelf liner underneath it. Overall, this product has made a great difference in our elderly dog's quality of life and I'm very happy to have found it on Amazon.

Love this dog warming pad. Best purchase EVER!
I love how large the warming pad is. My spouse is ill and is requiring radiation treatments. One of my husband's biggest complaints has been that he is COLD and FREEZING all the time. On the day the warming pad arrived, I had been unble to get my husband warm with conventional methods, lots of covers and the heat on high. A sheep skin like cover came with the warming pad. I wanted to test the merchandise to make sure it warmed only when something was laying on the pad but that it did not burn my dog. Then the lightbulb clicked! My spouse was watching his TV while sitting on the couch. I placed the sheepskin like side of the warming pad over his skin.I then placed two blankets over my spouse and the warming pad.I quietly watched and waited for his reaction.About 10 minutes later, I watched my husband curl up and start to relax. He states he could feel the warmth from the pressure of the blankets. It was a comfortable heat. No hot spots like a regular heating pad feels.Needless to say, he was thrilled with finally feeling warm and comfortable. Guess who received a dog warming pad for an early Christmas present? I promptly ordered another warming pad for my dog from Amazon. So far, I am very pleased with the quality of the dog warming pad. A pleasant heat. Only comes on when a light pressure is applied.I will order a 3rd doggie warming pad. If the dog gets lucky, he can definitely have the third warming pad.

My dog loves it
I've had a smaller one of these for many years and my cats still like it in the porch for when I'm not around to let them in. My LGD, who is supposed to be fine with the cold, was not liking the cold and begged to come in instead of doing her job. (It doesn't even get really cold here). Since I put this in her dog house, the large one, she is happy and content to be in her house. The fleece cover doesn't stay on very good as she likely paws at her bed like most dogs do. Although it is a little padded like an inflated mattress it isn't very thick so would not be that comfortable on old bones I imagine, however, my dog is young. I think the price is really high, but it is for everything now-a-days :/ Very happy with my purchase. Hope it holds up like the last one.

The Farm Innovator mats are better for cold weather
I've used these mats for 2 years for a cat house on my porch, and they are still working fine. However the problem with these mats is that only the mat surface directly underneath the animal will actually heat up. Measure even an inch away from the animal the mat will be stone cold (ambient temperature). This is just the design of the mat, which supposedly has "dual thermostats", although i think really it just means that the heater is weak, because it cant actually heat specific parts of the mat separately (so really it is just too weak to maintain a high temperature when exposed directly to the air). This is not good when the temperature is -10C or -20C, because the entire area around the animal will be freezing cold, except for the small area underneath them. So if they move around or change positions, it will take another 15 minutes to heat up underneath them. The Farm Innovators mat on the other hand heats the entire surface of the mat at all times, regardless of whether an animal is on it or not. In cold weather (-10C) the fleece cover (which is exposed to the air) will sit at around 20C, and the mat underneath will be at around 30C. When an animal sits on it, it will heat the area under the animal to 37C very quickly. So the area around the animal will be sitting at around 20C, which also warms the air a bit too. This allows them to stretch out and change positions more easily without getting very cold for 15 minutes, or forcing them to sit in one position. Also the Farm Innovator mat is easy to test. It has a red indicator light and is noticeably warm to the touch. The K&H mat you have to bring inside and put something that doesnt create its own body heat on it to tell.So overall the K&H is a good mat, it's lasted a long time and it does the job, but for very cold winters, the Farm Innovator mat is better in my opinion.

Outside heating pad
The heating pad works very well, not too hot. My Golden loves sleeping on our front porch, partially covered in, and now I don't worry about how cold it gets. He loves it!

Well built heated soft mat for my cats...
My "entitled" cats are going to love this!!! We purchased this soft heated mat a month ago for our hard winters here in Canada hoping to make their winters more enjoyable while being outside. We are going to plug this unit (large size mat will fit 3 14lbs cats) in a hand held "remote control" so we can turn the unit on when they go outside in their run. We have already tested this mat in the house, and within one hour of placing the mat on the floor, we had 2 customers checking it out...LOL! The electrical cord is well protected with a wire and there is a valve to inflate the mat to desired thickness. This mat will also be in a protected area away from the winter elements.... Can't wait to have my cats try this outside!
