A field surveyors must have. Very durable and compatible with Ram mounts.
I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 to use as a primary navigation, inventory, and diagnostics tool in outdoor and warehouse environments. Having used consumer-grade iPads and standard Galaxy tabs with bulky cases before, I wanted to see if a purpose-built rugged tablet could truly justify its price tag.๐ Battery Life & PerformanceThe Good: The swappable 5050mAh battery is a game-changer. I easily get 8-9 hours of continuous screen-on time running heavy GIS mapping software. The "No Battery Mode" allows me to plug it directly into a vehicle power source without worrying about heat or battery degradation. The Bad: Charging speeds are relatively slow at 15W. If you forget to charge your spare battery, expect a long wait to top up.๐๏ธ Build Quality & ErgonomicsThe Good: The MIL-STD-810H rating and IP68 water resistance are legitimate. It has survived three accidental drops onto solid concrete from waist height with zero scuffs. The 8-inch form factor is the sweet spot; it fits into large cargo pockets and doesn't fatigue your wrist over long shifts. The Bad: The included protective case makes the physical buttons quite stiff to press, which can be frustrating when wearing thick work gloves.๐ฑ Display & S-Pen FunctionalityThe Good: The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through large PDFs and schematics incredibly smooth. Outdoor visibility is excellent under direct sunlight thanks to the boosted peak brightness. The IP68-rated S-Pen is highly responsive and tracks perfectly even when the screen is slightly damp from rain. The Bad: Colors look a bit washed out compared to Samsung's premium AMOLED displays. If you want a media-consumption tablet for movies, this LCD panel might disappoint.๐๏ธ Software & Everyday SpeedThe Exynos 1380 processor paired with 6GB of RAM handles multitasking smoothly. I rarely experience app redraws when swapping between Chrome, Excel sheets, and scanning apps. Samsung DeX support works well when I need to plug into a monitor for a desktop setup, though it struggles slightly if too many heavy desktop browser tabs are open simultaneously.๐ Final VerdictThe Galaxy Tab Active5 is not built for casual Netflix streaming or high-end mobile gaming. It is an industrial tool designed for field workers, contractors, and outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize durability and modularity over razor-thin bezels.

Bought for a SXS GPS
I use this in my Yamaha RMAX2 for GPS maps while riding. The military rated dustproof, waterproof and shock proof qualities were the first features that got me. I put a 1 TB micro SD card in it and can record all my routes and maps, as well as throw a ton of mp3s on there for areas where even the SXS's FM radio wont pick up. I thought this would be more useful than a GPS-specific unit and I wasn't wrong. I haven't submerged it or washed the SXS with it mounted in it to test it's waterproof rating, no sense in tempting fate since this is my personal tablet and not a "test review". Also I work as a construction inspector and when I need to pay for a repair area I can take a pic with the camera and use the stylus to write the dimensions for the area on the picture. Then use Samsung Notes to complete the report and add the pic, and upload as a pdf file. I opted for the non-cellular version, choosing to use my phone's wifi hotspot when needed which is rarely. I have also used it to zoom in on a pdf plan detail and take a screenshot, write a note on the screenshot and send it to the contractor, and screenshot specifications for the contractor related to whatever work they're performing. I upload them to a Google Drive folder so anyone I send a link will have access. I like the fingerprint reader and the glove-sensitive touch display but my only gripe would be the screen looks smallish since it doesn't go end to end, corner to corner like a cell phone. A 10 inch would have probably been nicer in that regard but I don't think it would fit in the mount on the SXS and would probably be too big to tote around on the jobsite without worrying about dropping it all the time. This will slip right in my inside coat pocket. Overall I would recommend this tablet, I've found it very useful.

Solid performer
Bought this for travel and it is holding up well. The battery life is not great but I am not charging it daily either. I like having the ability to drop a micro card for additional storage.

Came with Wrong Charger
Tablet is fine and functional for the field. Bought used in "Mint" Condition from Amazon Resale, but it came with the wrong type of charger. Huge failure of oversight by Amazon.
