ArbortechIndustrial Woodcarver Pro Kit | Ø 100 mm Carbide Wood Carving Disc for Angle Grinder with Protective Guard | IND.FG.200

This is the second Arbortech tool I've bought, they are very well made but awfully expensive. I had fun money to burn. This is a wood carver on steroids. It comes with a plexi-glass shield that is very different than the metal one on the angle grinder. No instructions on how to use it, online search didn't help. I'm guessing it's some kind of depth guide for cutting channel grooves. It looks well-made but if it got crosswise with the cutting blade moving at 7000rpm there would be plastic flying everywhere.These things develop a lot of torque and they will give your arm, wrist and hand muscles a workout. I bought lightweight inexpensive 7amp grinders to power the blades, I'm thinking now that a heavier grinder with more amps might give more control. Arbortech are good tools, no question, but if you're a beginner you might first try an inexpensive chain saw carver and one of those tungsten carbide toothed grinders that look like a sea urchin, they will always be handy.

The actual Carver is awesome. I love it. I took off a star because I just need the blade but was forced to purchase the entire "kit". Come on Arbortech, don't include items I don't need or want.

Works a trick. I had been using the ball gouge to carve bowl and this is a whole different monster. It doesnt auto limit depth of cut quite as heavily as the ball gouge so it will sink right in to max depth if you let it, even in fairly hard woods like osage, like cutting through butter. Seems to leave a better overall finish than the ball gouge, even used against the grain tearout seems to be fairly minimal. If you have a good light touch and control you can use it to get a pretty smooth finish overall but I prefer something less aggressive for final thicknessing.Great tool for stock removal I cant recommend it enough.

WOW!! I don't even know where to start. I have been carving and shaping a 3 foot by 5 foot black walnut stump for 6 plus hours and this cutter is mind blowing. My wife got tired of hearing how much I kept raving about this little cutter. You could dig out a spoon or bowl in minutes, which is my next project. This thing ROCKS!!

I exchanged the Industrial Pro Kit for the Turbo plane as that seemed to better suit what I needed. The company was very accommodating and easy to work with.The Turbo Plane is doing what I wanted. However, it does take some getting used to, some skill, and a deft hand. I find the Turbo Plane to be a very useful tool. (My budget won't allow me to have it and the Industrial Pro Kit.

The engineering quality of the disc is superb, the efficiency is fantastic — the protective plastic shield is mediocre at best and does not fit my DeWalt cordless 20V Max angle grinder. I also wonder: why an ABS plastic shield for a $160.00 8000 RPM tool? I use my sturdy original full metal wheel guard and it works fine.

A serious bit of kit. My specific use is rounding off and balancing large lumps of green timber prior to power spinning them on the lathe - cheaper than a big band saw and safer than a chain saw.
