“Xiaomi 14 Civi - The Best All-Rounder with Long Battery Life & Leica Cameras at ₹25,999”
I rarely write reviews, I must say the Xiaomi 14 Civi has exceeded expectations in every way. For the ₹25,999 price point, this phone is nothing less than a flagship-class allrounder. 🔋 Battery Life That Lasts All Day With a 4700mAh Li-Po battery paired with 67W Turbo Charging, this device easily powers through a full day of heavy use. Streaming, social media, photography, gaming – it handles everything without breaking a sweat. The fast charging tops it up in under 40 minutes, making it perfect for power users. 📸 Leica Co-Engineered Cameras – Photography Redefined The 50MP OIS main camera, 50MP portrait telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide, tuned by Leica, produce stunning shots. Colors are natural, portraits look cinematic, and night photography feels effortless. Dual front cameras also make selfies and vlogging next-level. This is a camera powerhouse at mid-range pricing. 🌈 Flagship Display & Premium Design The 6.55-inch 1.5K AMOLED curved display with 120Hz refresh rate and 3000 nits peak brightness delivers vibrant visuals indoors and outdoors. At just 177g with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, it feels premium, slim, and durable in hand. ⚡ Performance & Storage Powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, with 8GB RAM + 256GB UFS 4.0 storage, the phone handles multitasking, gaming, and daily tasks like a true flagship. Stylish flagship with great display & selfies, but heating after update is a concern
I’ve been using the Xiaomi 14 Civi (8GB RAM, 256GB Storage) for some time now. It is a premium-looking and smooth-performing smartphone, but there are a few important points buyers should know before purchasing. 👍 What I liked Premium design: Very slim, lightweight, and stylish. Comfortable to hold for long periods. Display: Bright AMOLED display with a smooth refresh rate. Excellent for videos and daily usage. Performance: Daily tasks, multitasking, and regular apps run smoothly with no lag. Front cameras: Both selfie cameras perform very well, especially in good lighting, and are better than most phones in this range. Low-light selfies are also decent. ⚠️ Issues I faced Heating problem (after update): Before the update, the device temperature stayed around 40–40.5°C, even during benchmark tests. After the HyperOS 2 update, the temperature rises up to 46.4°C, especially when mobile data is ON or during gaming. This heating is noticeable. Battery performance reduced after update: Before update: ~5.5 hours SOT After update: ~4.5 hours or less SOT (continuous use) Charging time after update: around 54 minutes Heating affects comfort during long usage. Gallery AI not working: Xiaomi Gallery AI features are not functioning properly. It shows “This photo violates our guidelines” even for normal photos. Reinstalling the plugin did not fix the issue. App restrictions: Some apps show “restricted” warnings due to HyperOS limitations, causing them not to work properly. 🎮 Gaming experience BGMI: Supports up to 120 FPS, runs smoothly. Free Fire: Limited to 60 FPS. Even though there is an in-game FPS option, it does not change performance. Overall gameplay is lag-free, but heating increases during long sessions. 📷 Camera overview Main camera: Good and usable. Wide-angle camera: Better than expected. Other two rear cameras: Below average. Front cameras: Best part of this phone, especially in good lighting.

Camera - battery trade off
Camera is truly best of line for <30k int (aside from Samsung's s24fe of course) 1. Battery drains quickly but is manageable because it is marketed for its camera and lasts almost a day on low to mid usage. 2. Camera has straight up too many options but doesn't have pro video mode and live photos . For a normal user it's overwhelming but photos are very good specially primary sensor. 3. Performance is top notch is has UFS4.0 storage and Snapdragon 8s gen3 . Phone heats a bit on gaming for long duration and metal frame makes it feel you. 4 OS is something major. Xiaomi has made a real change with its hyperOS it's perfect It's a solid option if you are willing toh trade good battery for good camera (it's has a mediocre battery life)

Good Cameras, Poor Thermals, Jitter/RAM Issues Solved!
TL;DR at the bottom. Bought this in 24,000 INR in the GIF 2025 sale. Charged it fully, tested all functionality and sensors, updated the software to the latest version. I waited for 1-3 days as Xiaomi suggests, for the device to settle. Added a TPU case and tempered glass. All review content is based on usage after 3 days of update. Initially, the phone heated up very quickly, (becoming physically noticeable through a TPU case) and battery temps reached 39°C when doing low-level tasks on 5G (WhatsApp, Amazon, Brave Browser open at the same time). This is in winter, the ambient temps in the area are 22°C-25°C. Ceiling fan was off. I got rid of Xiaomi's typical adware and bloatware using UAD-ng. No improvement. Using Thermal Monitor revealed that battery temperatures sit at around 35-36°C when the phone was barely being used (ceiling fan was off). Odd. 1.36M score in Antutu 10.5.2 when testing from idle (ceiling fan off). This is okay, considering the form factor. When using the UI, there was significant jitter or lag. HyperOS kept trying to drop me down to 60Hz at the slightest hint of moderate use. I fixed this by setting the display to always use 120Hz and disabling app exceptions. RAM management was also super aggressive. HyperOS kills apps which haven't been used for 5-ish minutes. I tried fixing this by locking apps I typically use into memory. Ran into limitations after a while. So I debloated com.miui.powerkeeper, the app responsible for RAM management in HyperOS. Without it, you get the stock Android RAM management: apps happily stay in RAM for longer. This also seems to fix the heating issue I was experiencing. Idle temps began to hit 29-30°C. Lag disappeared at once. Hurray! Battery is its weak link. The 4700mAh battery can last 4 hours for a CODM session (max settings, 120fps). A media consumption session (YouTube, OTT) can give ~6.5 hours of SOT. Phone can last a day for a light user only. Speakers are okay, they sound tinny and lack base but get plenty loud. Dolby Atmos helps. This phone has 8 5G bands. I switched from Poco F5, which has 12 5G bands, and was surprised to see that the network signals are worse on this phone. This doesn't have the crucial n77 band. The front 32MP 1x camera is great when beautify is turned off. It captures neutral colours and a lot of facial details. HDR selfies and HDR selfies against artificial light/sun) are generally poor. Lots of halo effect around the face if the light source is close behind. The front 32MP 0.6x ultrawide has a similar colour science, but the photos are a bit softer. Groupfies are great in proper lighting. The rear cameras are okay, but the default Camera app doesn't capture neutral colours. Skin tones are warm by default. This may look good if the subject has bright skin. Greens in trees and foliage took deep and moody, the sky has a very subtle magenta tone. Shadows are typically dark, and detail is intentionally missing from them, even in HDR. When shooting scenes at night, I have had great success when simply turning down the exposure manually on each shot. This is the Leica colour science. It's much more subtle in phones like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra because of better sensors. Here, it is more pronounced. There are 2 modes for photography: Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. Leica Vibrant is what most people would use: punchy colours. Leica Authentic adds vignetting and a flatter tone to its pictures. Both modes have the Leica colour science, Leica Authentic leans a bit more into it. For more neutral colours, I downloaded GCam (MGC 9.3), and it works without requiring any setup effort. GCam brings neutral skin tones that we get in most phone cameras in this price (Moto Edge 60 Pro, Oneplus Nord 5) and Google's superb HDR for lifted shadows. The 50MP main sensor captures really good details for human subjects. It's pretty good at night if there's enough artificial light. The 50MP 2x telephoto sensor is average, it falls behind in detail; no OIS means you need steady hands for a decent shot. Human portraits using this lens are good. The 12MP 0.6x works well in daylight. Videos are decent, the colours are better in video. Shadows are still dark and moody here. Use Blackmagic Camera for better colours. Verdict: For people who want the Xiaomi-Leica aesthetic, it's a good camera phone. For people who want an all-rounder camera phone, GCam helps the phone hold its own. In this price, the Edge 60 Pro, with its 3x telephoto and its Pantone validated colours, is superior for cameras. Debloating com.miui.powerkeeper helps with the RAM problems. Long-Term Update (HyperOS 3): Long-term usage revealed that the phone is designed poorly and has thermal issues. I won't recommend this, only for the risk posed by the phone and the temperatures recorded by the battery sensor on its terminals. After the HyperOS 3 update, battery life seems to have improved significantly. SOT reaches 8-8.5 hours on intermittent usage. On HyperOS 2, this was 6-6.5 hours on intermittent usage. This is in line with recorded increases in battery life in all Xiaomi phones after HyperOS 3. The phone heats up and lags after using it for a while, even if the app is a browser, Amazon or Instagram. The battery temperatures shown on apps like Thermal Monitor or AIDA64 track with usage as follows: 1. On waking up from fully idle, the temperature ranges from 27-32°C (depending on time of day and ambient temperature). 2. On using the screen for a while, the temperature typically touches 34-35°C. 3. Charging takes the phone from 34°C-40.5°C over the course of the charge (45-50 minutes). Temperature peaks at about 35-60% charge. If the phone is already hot when you put it on charge, it will not fast charge; the phone will take longer to attain full charge. 4. Using a web browser/Amazon/Instagram with nothing in the background slowly increases the phone temperature from 35 to 40.5°C over 30-40 minutes. If you don't use a case, this will feel hot to the touch. 5. On long (45 minutes plus) CODM gaming sessions, the FPS is very low after the phone reaches 42.3°C. These numbers are unusually high; I compared this phone alongside my all-polycarbonate Poco F5, which goes to 37°C under maximum load and is typically 5°C cooler than this phone across all activities.
