i ordered this little fella as a joke! what i received is about twice the size of the picture, or they have the one listed in a giant's hand? got it on sale for $27 and change, and free delivery with prime, so a bit over 30 bucks all in. set it up with the included stinger lead, and ground lead.. both about 8 ft or a bit more longer. laid out a piece of 3/16" steel plate and ran some 3/32 6011 rod in both straight and reverse polarity and found it to lay down some decent beads with equally decent penetration running between 75 and 85amps ok, so lets see how it does with 1/8" 6011, at 90amps it ran although a bit hard to start, not bad at all though given it has been several decades since i ran much stick welding, favoring mig went back to my home shop and grabbed a rod vault of 6013 in 3/32 and 1/8" and ran the 3/32 at 75amps and found it to lay down nice beads, very suitable in my opinion for welding around 10gauge of 1/8" stock... nice! set the thing to 99amps (indicated) and put in a piece of 1/8 6013, and didn't expect much success however a bit hard to start, but again not too bad, it did run out an excellent bead with good penetration into a 3/16 steel plate. bearing in mind that i was running on a 12 gauge extension cord of 50ft, was actually amazing the circuit being on a 20amp breaker. i was expecting to kick off the breaker but did not have this happen while running short 2" test beads. i have no idea how they can make, ship and sell a tiny little inverter welder that works this good? fwiw, i have been welding as part of my 50 plus years of equipment maintenance, repair/rebuild and the majority of which in mobile service mode. for me where i see this little bugger being quite useful is on small jobs where difficult access can be a problem places where i can throw this thing over my shoulder, drag out a 50ft 10gauge extension cord and crawl in, under, over, around or all the above just to make a small weld repair on a bracket of some sort. or alternatively on small jobs where dragging out a bigger welder to repair a cracked alternator, muffler, hyd hose tender or other little 2 or 3 inch long weld. anyone in the mobile service industry knows that kind of jobs i speak of, the one's that come up at the end of the day/night (depending on shift of call out) where you are dog ass tired and really don't want to drag out 50ft of leads or drag out a larger mig welder and its supply cord which is usually going to be made to carry 50amps at 220vac all just to get to a piece of equipment that is block in and/or some other horrible access. how long will this baby last? who knows! but i suspect if used under 100amps output and on small jobs, maybe it will last a long time? in my opinion for the 27 bucks and change it only needs to bail me out of a jamb with one job and i can afford to pitch it in the trash and get another one. for the young ones just starting out... for what mowing a lawn pays these days, one could buy one of these, mow another and buy an entry level auto darken helmet, a third lawn and get a chipping hammer, wire bush and some 6013 in either 3/32 (recommended for beginners with this welder) and have a good setup to build your first gokart, mini bike or small repair biz fixing folks broken brackets and other small jobs. this welder would make a decent learning tool and get you started, then save up and buy a used miller/Lincoln/esab suitcase welder or take an intermediate step with one of the larger 200 to 250amp import mig welders, some of which are quite good. for welding square tubing of 1/8" wall this thing is quite adequate, and with some practice multi pass with 1/8" rod i see no reason one couldn't weld up to 3/8" steel with proper prep (beveling). i just wish these welders were available 50 plus years ago when i was just starting out!
