Will this power 2.5" SATA drives via USB only and not require the power supply?

I am wondering the same question, but I would find it strange that the power supply would be needed for a 2.5" drive. 2.5" (laptop) drives run at 5V (same as USB). The power supply is a 12V power supply (which is what all 3.5" drives need: 12V power, thus they aren't able to be powered by USB). Every other adapter like this I have seen and used did NOT require the power supply for 2.5" drives. So, it is possible the power is needed, but it seems strange to me that it would be required.

does it work with External hard drives

if you pull the external hard drive from its case it will work unless the internal hard drive uses an older PATA (EIDE) connector instead of SATA, anything from 2006 and above should have an SATA connector generally speaking.

Can i use this to connect an external drive to a home network drive? i have google wifi so i can't connect directly to the router.

You can connect to anything that will accept a USB 3.0 or USB 2 external hard drive. You will have to check the information that came with your home network drive to determine whether or not that home network drive is compatible with an external USB drive.

使用していたPCが突然作動しない状態になり、急遽新しいPC を購入しましあ。古いPCからデータのバックアップをしていなかったことから、ハードディスク（D） M.2 SSD (PCIeNVMe)に対応するデータトランスファー機器を探したところこの製品にたどり着きました。ハードディスクを取り出し、本製品に接続し、USBで新しいPCにつなげるだけで、かなりのデータ量にもかかわらず、新しいPC（デスクトップ）がパワフルなこともあるのですが、敏速に簡単にデータトランスファーが出来ました。個人的には、この作業がこの価格で可能になったことに大変満足しています。

Funciona de maravilla, aunque no he probado la función de auto respaldo todavía. Lo que si me deja un poquito insatisfecho es que el material se siente un poquito delicado, entiendase, no es de uso rudo, hay que tratarlo con cuiado, pero tampoco es que se vaya a romper en cualquier momento.

My very old DELL Windows XP computer refused to start up, and I was convinced that all was lost. In a desperate last attempt, I decided to use this adapter kit to connect the IDE HD to my new Windows 11 computer via a USB cable. To my absolute amazement, the old hard drive that had been sitting idle on my counter sprang back to life.
