WARNING: DO NOT GET ADDICTED TO THIS SERIES UNLESS....
I love Berserk, it's by far one of the best animes of all time. The characters, as everyone says, are supurb, and the overall storyline (Although dumbed down from the Manga) is quite excellent. However, the episodes on this current dvd and the next few to come are the happy ones. Those of you who say there's lots of gore and adult situations in these first couple eps, YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET! If you enjoy the series at it's current point, do not get addicted (as I did) unless you are prepared to see everything go, quite literally, straight to hell in the last couple of eps. I thought Ninja Ressurection was bad, but episode 25 came very close to making me vomit. Thus I must warn you, don't get too attached to the current set of main characters (Especially Griffith, that dirty little...) without expecting the worst. As for eps 6-9, 6 is phenominal. It introduces Nosferatu Zodd, or Zodd the Immortal as he's called, who becomes a main character in the Manga after vol. 13 (Which is where the anime ends), and is by far one of the coolest demons ever. Eps 7-9 continue the ascention of the Band of the Hawk, and let you see a little deeper into Griffith and Gatsu's minds. All in all, its worth the buy.One last point, I don't especially like the voice acters for the dub, and strongly suggest you watch the series subtitled. The only thing the dubbed dvds have going for them are the absolutely hilarious outakes.

Darker than the first DVD, but still an excellent series.
If you have watched the first DVD, you know by now this series is not for kids. Well, this DVD takes that to a whole new level, reinforcing this fact. This DVD is where the real plot becomes much more evident as Guts faces off with the "Immortal Soldier," Zodd. Although not completely clear yet, Zodd has some very important foreshadowing that will make you want to watch the rest of the series. On the series as a whole, I can best compare this series to Record of Lodoss War, but with much more violence and adult themes than Lodoss War had. This series is definately not for children. The story is of a mercenary named Guts and set in a world similar to Lodoss War, but with fewer fantastic creatures and different odd races (most all of the characters are human, with a few exceptions). Do not expect to see a bunch of elves and dwarves and dragons, the non-human characters are few and far between through the first 5 episodes. One hilarious bonus feature on all of the Berserk DVDs is the Outtakes. Basically, it is a series of line reading errors placed over the same scene in the original anime scenes. Watch them after viewing all of the episodes on the DVD so that you understand the context, but they are truly hilarious. It's very different than those "outtakes" on other animated DVDs, which are actual added scenes.

berserk the immoral anime
With Griffith and the hawks military campaign against a enemy castle comes to close they hear a roomer at a strong fighter is in the enemy lines known only as zodd the immoral. After guts finds the other members of the hawk dead in the castle and he finds zodd, guts and zodd dual it out and it seems guts haves delivert a deathblow to zodd only to find zodd is more than he seems as zodd transform into a monster and renews the fight. gut is than all most killed by zodd till Griffith interveins to save the day both guts and Griffith are all most kill by zodd till zodd see the pentant that Griffith wears and leaves guts with a little warring. mean while in the noble courts most are displace with Griffith raising in power becoming more and more in flavor with the midlands king, some plan on killing him.

Truly fine specimen.
This one is one of the best chapters of the greatest animated epic of our time. It starts off with the poetic battle with Nosferatu Zodd. It has one of my absolute favorite outtakes with the actor playing Griffith singing another ballad. There's an epic battle, assassination and counter-assassination planning and execution. Finally leaves you on the edge of your seat with Guts exploring Griffith's sideways language luring him to the threshold of equality. Which, of coarse, ultimately drives the series home.

Dark Fantasy Part 2
In the first volume of Berserk, we are given a glimpse of what's to come in the series, and just how dark Berserk is as a fantasy anime. The second volume kicks off in much the same way, with an episode dealing with the darker, more mysterious side to come, and after that the episodes get lighter and less constricting again. In the very first episode of volume two, Guts faces off with a demonically imbued man named Zodd, a man-beast known for having a murderous history dating back a hundred years and more. As a fighter in the opposing army, Guts can't help but fight the beast, and does a fair job at it, considering all those that have fought and died before his encounter with the beast. Still, it isn't until Griffith comes into it that they are able to at least repel the beast, and Zodd escapes, leaving behind a few words about the mysterious charm Griffith always wears, and the charm worn around the neck of the demon in the very first episode of volume one.Soon after recovering from his injuries, and after proving himself a worthy addition to the king's army, Griffith is knighted by the king of Midland, effectively making him an official in the king's court, which angers the nobility. In the meantime, Guts sits back and watches Griffith's rise to power while being the obedient soldier and friend, and he himself earns a certain degree of respect and hatred from the nobility of the king's court. During this volume, some of the infighting between the soldiers of the Band of the Hawk, especially between Caska and Guts, is lessened somewhat as the two begin to respect each others' positions in the band.Though still not as dark as the beginning of the series promises, this volume takes the steps needed to get to that point. If you've already started the series, I wouldn't recommend missing this volume, as it does show the key elements to the future of the anime. Also, if you're tired of watching the same comedic fantasy anime (Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters) then Berserk is a good one to pick up.
