The "button" piece of metal halfway down the back of the knife does nothing. Is it supposed to close the blade? How do I close it?

The button half way down the back of the knife is to release the blade, it is stiff, I suggest you oil it and work it a little to ease the button tension. It may take some time in doing.

Big enough to filet a salmon?

Yes, depending on the size of salmon. I fish for Sockeye salmon in Alaska each year and purchased this knife to be able to store it in my chest pack when fishing. The Sockeye we catch are between 5 to 8 pounds on average and this folding Kastking Fillet knife works great. For a folding fillet knife it did better then I expected. Last fishing trip I filleted a little over 30 salmon with it, worked flawlessly..

Anyone know of a leather sheath for this knife.

Best knife ever for a good price to

Has to be one of the sharpest knives i have ever seen and got my hands on. We filleted 6 Carp in one day and it was still sharp... and the ones who know abt carp there scaked are very hard and solid to cut into... definitely gonna refer to other fishermen and my friends

Space saving foldable fillet knife includes a belt pouch.

The overall construction is excellent and the foldability allows for space saving and keeps the blade safe. Stainless steel hardware and coated blade should allow to handle the harshness of the saltwater fishing environment. I like the feel of the knife especially the textured and curved handle. It fits well in my hand. The blade lock feels secure and safe plus the blade springs closed when folding the blade back in. A durable pouch is included with Velcro closure and a belt loop. The blade is thick but still allows a decent bend to clean fish fillets. I would recommend this fillet knife for anyone who wants a well built compact fillet knife.
