I honestly expected completely different content based off the title. I didn't read any reviews. Most of the book is more of a recipe book for baby/kid safe playing material (foam, goo, slime, paints). It's a very artsy crafty book but extremely well organized and if you have the time & interest I think it could be a great addition to your book collection. The chapters each begin with an introduction and the authors experience and tips. The chapters are: slimes, doughs, paints, small worlds, simple sensory activities, and do it yourself toys. Each activity lists prep time, ages (baby/toddler/preschoolers/5+) ingredients/supplies, detailed instructions, and what I like is that there are also variations/troubleshooting/budget tips. It also lists if it's dye free, taste safe, dairy/gluten/egg/soy etc free. Also there are instructions on turning what you make into art. The book ends with information on the science behind the activities, where to find supplies, and additional resources. If you're looking for activities for your kids to do on their own this is not the book. These are activities that require your involvement and can end up being very messy. The recipes are easy and simple and cost friendly. Most of the items you'll probably have and need to only get one or two others. This book is amazing! I HATE crafts and am not creative but love this book. This book isn't about making Pinterest perfect projects or something beautiful; it is about facilitating imaginative play and having fun. It allows my children to use their minds, be creative, get sensory experiences and allows them to do new things we would have never though of. Citro's blog is fantastic, however the book has everything organized in one place. To be clear, a lot of othese projects are messy but none of our clothes have gotten permentantly stained. My boys love all the glow-in-the-dark things as well as the slime and minature worlds. We live in Minnesota and are stuck inside for so much of the winter. This book has inexpensive activities that have kept us from watching so much tv and have allowed our children to have so much more fun.

This is an inspiring book as far as sensory activities to do with your child. But I am so very irritated by the photos in the book. This book is about messy play...but the photos show children in spotless clothes, in a perfectly clean room, playing with materials that magically stay in the "sensory" bin. Make no mistake, if you do an activity such as presenting your toddler with a bin full of beans, you will end up with beans in every corner of the room. I suppose in this pinterest perfect age, such photos were a necessity for marketing or whatever. But they do not represent reality at all of what it would look like if you were to do the activities in this book. Also...many activities would require quite a bit of setup beforehand (like dying dry rice with food coloring and setting it out to dry overnight), as well as a lot of cleanup afterwards (see original comments about beans in every corner of the room). Still inspirational though and has a lot creative ideas...I stilp consider it a worthwhile buy.

I have purchased several kinds of these books, but this one has quickly become my favorite! First. I love that the author has taken the time to breakdown each activity according to a simple key highlighting if it's something safe to taste, and if it contains dyes or allergens. The pictures are great, simple, but easy enough to see what the end product should/could look like and each activity has at least one picture. I appreciate each activity has a very easy guide for how long it will take to make/prep, and what ages it would be best for. I have done at least 10 projects and they have all been huge hits with my toddler, make me look like mother of the year, but really aren't a lot of work. I love that my little one is learning through play, and I really love that the ingredients list doesn't contain a long list of ingredients that are hard to find. This is the book to buy if you are looking for crafty, fun, and sensory projects for your little one, don't look any further, just buy it. I would say most of these activities are best suited for toddlers to early school age, but I could definitely see some use for older elementary school age children as well.

As a fan of the website Fun At Home With Kids, I was all too eager to order this book. I had great expectations and, oh man, did Asia deliver! She really gets kids. She gets how they learn, how they interact, how they develop and makes it easy for you to find activities appropriate for your child's age/skill level.She's made things easy for parents with babies and young toddlers by pointing out which recipes are taste safe. If your child has allergies, THIS. BOOK. IS. FOR. YOU. Asia has made a huge effort to include as many allergen free recipes as she could. Each recipe has an allergen key for quick and easy reference for busy parents.Each recipe starts off with the basic ingredients and execution. After the recipe, there are several suggestions for variations, allowing you to turn one activity into several!As a previous preschool teacher and a current stay at home mom to a 9 month old, I see how this book has activities that truly span the age range. This is a book of ideas that will grow with your child. It's great for siblings!Perhaps most importantly, I want to point out that this book is pure gold for busy, working parents. Open ended play doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive, but it does take some forethought. Don't assume that teachers and stay at home parents or caregivers are the only ones who can plan out play activities. This book takes the guesswork out of planning, especially for working parents, giving you more time to play and learn together.

I've always wished I could be more creative with my little guy and come up with a wider variety of activities that would spark his interest. This book has helped make that possible. The day it arrived my husband opened it up (unprompted by me) and read through it, avidly planning things we could do with our son. That night we made flubber; a week later we entombed a bunch of figurines in ice and then thawed them out. That kept my two year old's interest for more than 30 minutes during his typical evening hyper time. He was focused and very entertained!Citro makes it easy to follow the steps and create new experiences for your own kiddos, mostly with stuff you have around the house (although my husband and I were motivated to make a quick trip to our local craft store, which doesn't hurt). Many of the ideas are even fun for parents too. I get a kick out of creating small worlds!Citro's blog, funathomewithkids.com, has good ideas on its own (my son and I like to make the pumpkin muffins) but it's even better to have this as a reference, since it has unique ideas and is something you can look through with your kids to gauge their interest as well.

Too much variations of the same thing. This book should really be called 15 screen free activities with 135 variations of those 15 things. I like that many activities use similar ingredients so I can do more than one activity with them. The highlight for me was the idea of the sensory play tubs like getting a huge tub and filling with water, then adding things for imaginary play like frogs and floating Lilly pads and jewels, etc. my kids LOVE that kind of thing and it got my creative juices flowing. Those ideas alone were worth the purchase for me. And who knows maybe I will make 30 different kinds of gak, slime, goo and dough someday.

Very good ideas for free play and makes kids creative. Allows for a quality time with parents

I ordered this book last week and Amazon said it might take 3 months to ship, but they ended up having some in stock after all and it arrived 3 days after I ordered it! We have had the book for 3 days and my daughter and I have already done 4 activities. She picks out what she wants to do and I go out and buy the materials and we prep everything together. Materials were inexpensive when purchased from the dollar store and bulk barn. The set-up is easy and kid-friendly, so they can help create the activity and then play with it too! My daughter is 3 and she has so far thoroughly enjoyed the dinosaur rescue with baking soda and vinegar, the frog world, the foam and water window stickers, and the ice treasure hunt (can't remember what that one was called - we put beads in the water, then collected them when we melted the coloured water and made bracelets). This will definitely help us get through the long winters in Canada! Have also done painting and water play with my 6 month old. Well worth the investment! Have also purchased for some Mama friends as Christmas gifts!

O livro sugere atividades interessantes para crianças pequenas e/ou com deficiência. Interessante para escolas. Fácil leitura em conjunto com o dicionário mesmo pra quem não tem inglês fluente.

This book is great. It has so many ideas in it, whether you have something in mind and want to check for a specific play recipe like how to make slime, get a trusted playdough recipe, or remind yourself of the details for some simple science activities like how to make fizzing or glowing stuff - or if you just want to browse and find something new to do. It's very easy to find what you need, with modifications suggested to make some of the activities taste safe, or gluten free, etc etc..The pictures are beautiful so all of the activities look so inviting. The activities are really pretty, especially the liquid water colour stuff. I had been reading Asia's blog for a while before buying this book, so I was really looking forward to getting the book and im not disappointed with it at all - it's great.If you have young children, or are involved in working with children like in a playgroup or children's centre then you can't go wrong with this book. I would totally recommend it.
