Awesome powerful knife
I can't say enough good things about this knife. It's a serious powerful blade that really is like a pocket sword. The tanto blade makes it a huge slab of razor sharp pointy steel. It came very sharp. It's incredibly sturdy and the locking mechanism is rock solid. It seemed absurdly huge at first, but it does fit entirely into an average pants pocket. The handle is ergonomic with good texture for a secure grip, and the inside is fully metal lined making it very strong. After a while I'm getting used to it and other knives seem too small. I keep finding it more and more useful the more I carry it. It's also a perfect camp knife which is what I originally wanted it for. It could be used to chop and split wood, as a small machete, a scraper, a trowel, a self defense weapon, you could dig a hole with it, chop food, slice up boxes and packaging, cut rope and straps... on and on. It's a really versatile design. One thing to be aware of: When closing the blade, around 3/4 of the way shut it gathers a bit of spring tension from the locking mechanism and the blade wants to snap shut the rest of the way. If your fingers are in the way it can snap shut on them and cause a significant cut. I know this because it happened to me and caused a very clean slice on the back of my finger which bled for a long time. In general this blade is quite dangerous to clumsy fingers. If you're not used to a large folder, it's easy to close it on your fingers unexpectedly. If you drop it, it will cut whatever it lands on. The tanto points will stab through your jeans and probably would poke through a tennis shoe if dropped onto it. Use caution while getting accustomed to this blade. Handle it with respect because it's a powerful tool and weapon. And it's totally awesome. I expect to get many years of service out of this awesome awesome knife. Buy it and you will not be disappointed.

Very class. Mmm.. yes indeed.
Great pocket knife. This will be perfect for opening letters and whipping out in the grocery store to help a soccer mom cut the tag off her purchase. Nah, for real this thing is a savage folding knife, bigger than anything I've ever carried. Came shaving sharp and the lockup and fit and finish is immaculate. Best value for the money in the knife world. Handle feels very grippy and the FRN is very solid and feels durable.

Cold Steel has a legendary reputation for a reason
This thing is a beast and razor sharp out of the box. I did my standard arm hair cutting test and came out with a Voyager XL sized bald patch, lol. I think most people buying this knife already own some Cold Steel knives. If that's the case, you'll love this. It's big, bad, and exactly what you expect from CS. Some people say that the pocket clip is too small for the XL. I admit it does look a little dinky compared to the Espada or SR1 clips. However, it fits nice and snug on my waistbands and I didn't need to stack 3 pennies underneath for a day or so to stretch it out. Works for me. This is not a good beginner knife for a lot of reasons. It's razor sharp, huge, and pretty intimidating (as it should be). Cold Steel is a legendary company. Who else provides such design, quality, and durability at an affordable price? Let me know, haha. Just kidding. I love you Cold Steel.

Beast
I own a lot of CS knives and this is one of my favorites. For myself, this is strictly a self-defense carry knife. It's not too big for my jeans pocket and I don't notice the weight. This knife isn't for going out in the woods chopping whatever I see. The length is exactly what I've been wanting because it gives me that extra reach. Especially when I grip it towards the back of the handle. The blade isn't made of some super steel, but I don't need it to be. I don't care about durability, edge retention and all that other stuff. Those are for my daily use knives. This knife, I just need it to do it's job even just once. It's cheap enough so I don't care if it breaks defending my family and myself. Easily replaceable. The AUS-10 steel is super easy to sharpen and takes an edge very well. Like all CS knives, it came sharp, but sharp isn't good enough for me. I used a progression of diamond emulsion on strops and now the blade is probably my sharpest knife. Like I said, very easy to put a razor edge. The value for what you get is undeniable. You get the famed CS quality even though the material used isn't of the highest quality. I hope that makes sense. Am I happy with this knife? No question. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. Would I recommend this knife? That depends on what you are looking for in a knife. This is a big knife and not for every one. But if you like big knives, this is a must get. By the way, I purchased the tanto blade which I feel is better suited for self defense.

This powerful blade is legal to carry EVERYWHERE in Texas
As a college student in Texas, I find myself walking to and from class everyday. There are many unsavory and often times threatening characters who can be found in these streets and sometimes even on campus. A few years ago, Texas law banned many knives (including Bowie knives) alongside clubs and other hand weapons from being carried. On the day the law was to be repealed, a stabbing occurred on a college campus. As a result, Texas law prevents you from carrying knives with blades longer than 5.5 inches in certain sensitive areas. At 5.5 inches, this knife meets the criteria. You can carry it on campus, to a courthouse, where ever. Of course, while the blade is only 5.5 inches, the knife itself is over 12 inches when unfolded. You are effectively carrying a folding sword. This thing comes sharp as hell (I nicked myself with it), and the cleverly designed hand allows you to hold it in certain ways that give you more reach. I examined a few fixed blade Kabars with 5.5 inch blades, but due to the handle, the Cold Steel XL tanto was far larger. I have a feeling that most people would just run if they confronted you and you whipped this thing out. My next largest folder is the CQC Emerson 4KXL, and the thing just dwarfs the poor Emerson On the other hand, this thing is built like a rock, and you could definitely use it as an outdoor blade. The lock up is totally solid. I've seen some people absolutely torture these knives, and while I wouldn't put them through that kind of punishment, it makes me feel confident in the product. I throw this thing in my backpack, where ever I go. At around 60 bucks, it's worth every penny.

Epic, cool blade.
This is a giant folder, lots of reach, lots of handle space and grip options. The tanto blade is crazy thick even to the tip, makes my recon 1 tanto look skinny, but it came hair shaving sharp despite it’s beastly thick blade. It’s a big knife but will fit in a pocket. Great knife for yard work because it’s super solid, sturdy, and robust and it won’t break the bank at $57-62. I could even see someone hiking with this thing because it has the weight, thickness, and lock strength for chopping, prying, digging, can-opening, brush clearing, etc. but for most people it’s going to just be a super cool knife you pull out to show your friends at home. Either way, it’s a small investment for such a beefy, durable, cool blade. I love it. I will likely buy a few more in different blade configurations. I’m not a steel expert, but I have heard and read that aus10 (10a) steel is very comparable to VG-10. I love VG-10 in my delicas. I care more about toughness than I do wear resistance, so if it needs resharpening frequently, I don’t care as long as it won’t chip or break easily. I think 10a steel is tough enough especially at this level of thick blade. How long it will stay sharp, I don’t yet know. I have seen people beat these knives up on YouTube in an ugly way and they don’t break. That’s what I want in a big blade, toughness. If you love gigantic folders, thick blades, and reasonable prices, get this awesome knife. It’s very cool.

HUGE knife
You don’t fully appreciate just how gigantic this knife is from the measurements. It comes quite sharp and feels sturdy in the hand. I prefer the old CRKT copacetic as a utility folders that can flex into a defensive weapon , but if you want a giant knife for whatever reason, this is a solid option if not a terribly refined one. Good value

Wonderful solid blade for hiking, property maintenance!
As a knife collector, I completely love this design! Needed a heavy duty, solid, long blade affordable good reputation name to take on large property for small branches when walking. This is perfect! Grabbing close to the blade provides solid grip like a smaller blade, while holding way back in a hacking position, keeps thumb away from safety catch. Pics compare to stainless steel 3 inch blade folder. I’m going to beat the heck out of it!

Vorsicht! Be careful!
Razier scharff, beim zu klappen. Finger weg, das Feder ist sehr stark, und zieht der Klinge schnell rein. Be careful when closing the blade the spring mechanism pulls the blade shut quickly. And if you fingers are in the way.... ouch. BIG KNIFE!!! GROSSE MESSER!!!
