Is this durable enough for children to play with?

I bought this for a gift so I only took a quick look at a couple of pieces. My first thought was, “I hope she doesn’t let the kids play with it.” They would definitely break if dropped onto an uncarpeted floor. My two grandsons are 7 years old and 9 months. The 7yo has a short attention span and is very kinetic. I think a child who is calm and careful could handle it with supervision.

Will this set fit on a mantle that is 7 " deep?

Manger is only 3” deep so I would say yes if you put some pieces in front and some pieces to either side.

The manger (créche, or stable) is as follows: Height at the tallest point is 7 1/2 inches; Length is 11 inches; Depth is 2 3/4 inches.

Do you like the size or do you wish you would have sprung for the 7-inch version?

For my purposes a 5 inch version is perfect. I don't have space for anything larger.
