Excuse My French - desertcart.com Music Review: MONTANA!!! - Must say I had never even heard of French Montana til I saw his singly "Ain't Worried About Nothin" on Youtube. Very catchy simple hook I found myself walkin around singin the hook. So I decided to purchase the album. I am very glad I did. It's an instant classic. If it's not the best album of the year it's easily top 5. Very good production. He's not going to be winning any awards for his lyrical skills but he has a unique sound and very strong song structure to every track. Very polished album. Not suprising since it was put out by Diddy and his Bad Boy label. I'd say a must have for any rap fans. I only give 5 stars to albums that I can listen to all the way through without skipping a track. Review: great debut - Much better than I expected. Some of the best songs were the one's without rap features. Personal favorites are paranoid and drink freely

I like the beats and melodies but the lyrics suck
I think French Montana watered down his rhymes on this one to the point where it's hard to re-listen after 50 times. Production wise, I was feeling it. All the beats were hot with the exception of a couple like the joint with Nikki that I wasn't feeling. What drives this album is the melodic style of singing and the beats for me. Lyrically, I think it's pretty bad. Conceptually, there really isn't any. I'd probably give 3.5 but I can't so I give 4 cause I can still enjoy it even with the terrible rhymes.

One of the greatest albums in a while
I truly "hate mix tapes" it's nothing but a waste of lyrics and beats. French Montana, gets "two thumbs up" for this album. Ghetto no brain no talent loses don't know shit about really music and talent. They can't even survive right "keep ya head up kid" Montana. This from Jondyce from Bmore.

Swing and a Miss
French Montana is the master of the worst kind of rap. The type of rap I call "Stop and Go" Rap. It's pretty self explanatory, it's the rapper saying a line, and the whole song seems to come to a complete halt and repeat that a bunch of times to make a song. 99.9% of the time, it's total crap. French Montana intrigued me though, for some reason after completely brushing off all of his singles, I felt like I needed to give this album a shot, which I did, and almost immediately regretted. Of the 17 tracks French Montana released on "Excuse My French", it's easy to say that there are only 7 or 8 worth listening to. The album starts on a high note with "Once In Awhile", where Max B does a pretty good job with the hook, and French just kind of does his thing, for better and for worse. The only other real high points in this album are the "re-imagined" version of "Ice Cream" by Raekwon, known on this album as "We Go Where We Want". The Raekwon original version still out-does this song by miles, but French probably does his best rapping on this track. The only other high point is the song "Gifted" French is one of the many rappers that followed Drake in making some soft dark track that doesn't fit with the rest of the album in any way sort or form with the incredible R&B artist "The Weeknd", the only difference is that it worked for Drake. The song is really quite good, but it sounds like it should have been on The Weeknd's album because French Montana is made to look like a fool on the song due to how great The Weeknd really is. As far as the rest of the album goes, there are a few other listenable songs such as "Pop That", "Freaks", "Marbled Floors", and "Ballin Out". Most everything else on the album is filler garbage that you may listen to once and realize it's trash. Props go out to French though because this album isn't laughably bad like a lot of other rappers that are similar to french (See: Chief Keef, Future, Lil Wang, Tyga, and Waka Flocka Flame). I do have to say most of the album is trash, but there is something there that almost makes it good, but it doesn't work in the end. French Montana did exceed my expectations by a lot, but I'll be honest. My expectations were lower than dirt. Excuse My French is pretty bad overall, but with a few gems dug deep in the album, it is able to shine just a little bit brighter than other rappers. Just pick and choose your favorite six or seven of your favorite tracks and it'll be easy to forget the rest of the filler tracks. FINAL SCORE: 5/10
