A documentary chronicling the once-in-a-lifetime rock concert to which hippies and beautiful people flocked from all over the world in August 1969. Rock icons caught in performance include the Who, Santana, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jimi Hendrix. The film won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

This *is* a four-disc Set with 7 hours of Footage
If you want the "ultimate" (so branded) four-disc set, make sure you order that, as there are several options listed here, oddly. Several people have said they didn't get what they wanted in this, and while that may be true due to ordering/ shipping errors, as of 2018 I rated this the best value in an extended Woodstock box: what I received is indeed the set *pictured in the product description.* The rear of the box explains exactly what I got. It is a 4-DVD set: the 4-hour cut across 2 discs, plus *another* DVD of 3-hours of bonus concert material, which includes Creedence, the Dead, Johnny Winter, etc. The Canned Heat set, none of which was in the original film (except their stage-mix "Goin' Up the Country" as a background track), is a real highlight. They played at dusk and it got dark during their set Saturday night. The set (albeit scattered across three discs) has a fair amount of the very good Jefferson Airplane playlist. The Creedence selection here is actually bigger than that of the new (2019) 10-CD box set. Their set, so long on ice and rumored to be mediocre, is all quite good and it ends with them uncorking an utterly crazy and spot-on "Keep on Chooglin'." The 4th disc consists of relatively recent interviews with the producers, directors and editors, and is often quite interesting. Please note this is a non-USA set (British) so it needs a code-free player. I got more than what I paid for in this, which was not much!

Great blueray dvd but no subtitles on songs
I watchet the movie on a theater when it first came, extraordinary experience. Later I bought the VHS tapes that had CC captions. But this Blue-Ray dvd don't have English subtitles for the songs, only for the dialog, so anyone who want to learn the lyrics this is not for you. I returned the dvd and then after verifying with an Amazon rep I bought the Prime version of this dvd that have subtitles on everything. Only problem is that dvd is far easier to put the songs you want, the Prime version doesn't so you have to fast forward in order to find a song, so if you don't need the English subtitles this dvd is great.

Directors cut is excellent.
I had seen this movie many times and the extras are great. People remember woodstock for the Who and Jimi and alvin Lee and Santana. Many do not realize that the Grateful Dead and CCR played there as well. The Dead footage is great - a great deal of Pigpen doing what he did so well and CCR - who were extremely more popular than the Dead or almost anyone else at that time. This is like a Whole new Woodstock. Highly reccomended. Jimi - after Montery insisted that he would go on Last so that most people had left by the end. The additional Richie Havens is great as well.

Warning for improper DVD 2
I first bought a Woodstock 2009 Region Free. On that version, only DVD 1 worked. DVD 2 (bonus material) did not work. I thought that it might be a unfortunate coincidence and bought another version of Woodstock 2009 Region Free as it costs just as much to complain to Amazon and send the first version back. When I got the second version of Woodstock 2009 Region Free it turned out that it was exactly the same error on this release. DVD 1 worked. DVD 2 did not work. I would therefore warn that there may be a batch of editions where DVD 2 does not work. Is is of my opinion that Amazon should have a system where it is easy to send back incorrect goods. For example, a return slip added to the delivery with the correct return address. And it should not cost the customer anything. For my own part, I will have to accept not having a working DVD 2 because I don't want to pay for a return of the goods that costs as much as the money Amazon will refund. Not satisfied customer.

Woodstock - Ultimate Collectors Edition - 40Th Anniversary DVD Set
The 40th Anniversary edition of Woodstock is all but a complete waste of time and money. If you have the original version, you already have what the producers thought was the best of Woodstock...or more accurately, what they wished to release at the time! There are all too many performances missing that might have been presented in this edition but were not included! The third disc in this set gives additional performances by the same musicians you saw in the original and it's nothing special. The fourth disc is filled with various people including producers, camera and editing folks talking about the making of the film. Of the many presentations I miss, the iconic ode to Max Yasgur, by "Mountain" which is sung by Leslie West on lead, with Felix Pappalardi on bass guitar, and titled "For Yasgur's Farm" is conspicuous by its absence! If not for Max Yasgur, there would have been no Woodstock on that once gorgeous property in Bethel, New York! That one track should be included on every presentation whether it be DVD or CD. It is, I believe, only on the 40th Anniversary CD and on their first album titled "Mountain: Climbing."

in Blu-Ray THE ULTIMATE EDITION: Beautful, wonderful film about a loving generation with nice extras
Great music and interesting narratives from people within the festival of the original Woodstock; this collection also includes 2 hours of other footage not used in the main film, and a bunch of short documentaries about the making of the film and the making of a generation. This was a loving, caring, maybe naive group of people (I include myself) who had great ambitions and goals for the world (yes, World!) The end of war, racism, sexism, pollution, poverty, and more. Too bad it hasn't gone that way. One of the great commentaries contained within this film is by a police officer who talks about how peaceful and gracious all the "kids" were. Blu-Ray video and audio are superb and the extras well worth the price increase over the standard edition of film only. Extra footage includes Jimi Hendrix playing Spanish Castle Magic, and selections from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Mountain, Joan Baez, Santana, and others. Don't hesitate, if you want the Ultimate Edition, this is it.

A must have treasure for music lovers!
Woodstock has been a thing of legend for many generations now. Everybody knows about the legendary Jimi Hendrix performance and have seen the show spoofed on many occasions, my favourite always being Wayne's World 2. I thought it was time to pass it down to the new generation in my family and selected this fine looking Ultimate Collectors Edition to do it.For those who do not know, Woodstock was an American music festival that took place between August 15th to the 18th 1969. The show was only suppose to hold a limited crowd but very quickly became one of the biggest free shows ever after hundreds of thousands of people showed up. The four days involved a lot of legendary bands from the previously mentioned Jimi Hendrix to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Crosby, Still and Nash and The Who. The event was recorded and the documentary was released a year later in 1970. This film documented the musical aspect as well as the social side, becoming a time capsule of the hippy era. This two disc Ultimate Collectors Edition features the extended edition of the film restored for high definition. It runs a good deal longer than the original. It features more footage, interviews and performances. There is a bonus disc featuring an incredible amount of extras. There's a number of documentaries, over two hours of band performances, interviews, an image gallery and so much more.Woodstock the movie can only be described as one thing, an experience. It's not a true concert DVD, it's a documented experience of the event. It shows us lots of contrasting personalities, what mind set they were in and what they were into at the time. It may have been some questionable LSD, yoga or just some groovy music and good times. I personally thought it was a very easy movie to watch. I find it's very easy to get sucked into a more simpler time and just be away with it for a few hours. If you're wondering how a younger generation would take it. Put it like this, my thirteen and six year old children sat and watched the entire movie without complaining. They were fascinated by the people, the fashions, the music and or the experience as a whole. If it can do that to a six year old, what will it do to those more serious about music?Any fan of music from this period or just rock in pop culture in general owe it to themselves to buy this movie. Crank up the speakers and just let the Woodstock experience take you for a ride. It's really a one of a kind movie and is a must buy, as far as my opinion is concerned.

Woodstock - Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray
This review relates to the 2-disc Blu-ray Ultimate Collector's Edition of ‘Woodstock’. This expanded edit is way better than the original incarnation. The sound and pictures were famously captured to a basic standard due to constraints imposed by the organised chaos of the day. Those flaws remain part of the experience, but the producers have married a clean visual print to a top-drawer audio remaster. The contextual, off-stage footage is largely intact, but some inessential material has been replaced with out-takes that foster a far better understanding of the socio-political milieu. The additional musical performances are mostly functional but do give a grander sense of the festival's scale. The fabled, historic performances of Joe Cocker and Jimi Hendrix are towering, while The Who's incendiary performance of 'Sparks' on the bonus disc reminds us of the unnerving sonic storm that Pete Townshend and his gang could generate. All in all, fabulous.

Sly and family Stones medley is not included!
Seems to be hard get whole medley from Sly and the family stone in any of these DVDs and Blue Rays (Dance to the Music/Music lover/Iwant to take you higher) as only an edited part of I want to take you higher is in this. Anyone out there that can help me get a DVD or Blue ray with whole medley?... Rest of Music is of course good but that was a huge dissapointment mentioned … quality is ok but not top notch and sound a bit muddy -still but its from 69, filmed in VHS and God now what they used for sound? Incredible it wotked that well it did but its both a great Music film and about an bygone era. Remember when see this at a theater 1970 how impressed I was and its ok but had expected better quality. Second disc with extras dont work like it should and is not in HD and because of all this mentioned i give a normally 5 star only Three.

The event that ended the sixties...
It happened 51 years ago, I was only 13 at the time, too young to really know about this event, though I do remember it being mentioned on the TV news.3 days of music, peace and Love, featuring artists, many of whom have since died, immortalised forever in this documentary of a free music festival. It makes for good viewing, if you want to see the real talent of the late 1960s.

Woodstock, wow!
This is the official multi-screen film version of the Woodstock concert as it happened, warts and all!It is not the best cinematic quality but there is a true raw sense of what it was actually like to have attended the concert. This is the yardstick by which all subsequent outdoor festivals have been compared. The bonus discs offer an interesting insight into the logistics and financing of such a massive event. Pure nostalgia for people of a certain age. Fifty years on, it still casts a long shadow over today's sub-culture.
