Trains: A Pop-Up Railroad Book Hardcover – September 12, 2006

My 2 twin nephews are obsessed with trains (I assume they're like many other little boys out there). Their house is full of cars, trains, etc. THey are almost 3 yrs old. I bought this (and another pop up book) for them for xmas. Their parents just told me that they are obsessed with his pop up book. I don't think they've ever owned a pop up, most people stay away from buying these for kids b/c they will break them. And yes, that probably will happen, but pop ups are just so amazing. And the fact that this is about trains, they are enamored with this! There is too much factual detail for them, but, they actually do like listening to them read it (a little bit of paraphrasing required for 3 year olds) and they like the moving parts that some of the pages have.

This book is way too delicate. My son is easy on books and has had lots of pop-ups and lift the flap books since he was a baby. He received TRAINS for his 4th birthday, and within minutes a pop up was torn. I chastised him to "be more careful" and then while showing him how to be careful I tore one of the trains! The book has to be open just exactly right for the trains to line up properly with the paper "tracks." This book requires more care than the average little kid can manage (i.e the same kids who love Thomas the Tank Engine are probably too young!) On the other hand, I agree that the book has REALLY good information and is a really neat little book. It's too bad that it requires parental supervision. Perhaps if the cardboard were coated with some kind of plastic it would be sturdier???

Returned due to condition. Many of the sliding pages and pop-ups were torn and some missing.

The pop-ups are very intricate and detailed. However, I have to agree with the other reviews that say it is very fragile. Don't expect the pop-ups to stay pristine. I broke one before I even gave it to my son. One that required you to pull was stuck. I tried as carefully as possible to work on it and it still broke the support. I reglued, filed what was getting stuck and works fine now. My son loves it though, but he just turned 7. Not for real young children unless adults handle it only.

My 3 1/2 year old little boy - LOVES trains.. and so we got him this book and he has really enjoyed all of the moving pieces... You do have to be "gentle" with it and with 3 yr. olds.. that is not always easy.. We have completely LOVED this book the only complaint that I have is that it is not a very durable book.. on the inside and also on the spine...

This is a wonderful, interactive book on early, earlier, and newer train systems.I expect it to be a big hit to my grand nephew when I see him next month. The engineer hatto go with it is a great addition from Amazon also. The book is not for toddlers but great for 8 year olds and up who are able to respect the interactive tabs. Yvonne

It's a fun book that provides plenty of incentives through the pop-ups and sliding trains, for little listeners to pay attention and have fun with the reading process. The fact there's some pretty interesting factoids and bits of history along with yes, the pop-ups, help big readers enjoy the book too. Overall, my son ,daughters and yes daddy too, couldn't be happier with this book.

The pop ups are very cool and allow children to learn more about the workings of trains. Although my boys are two years old, it's a great book for them to grow into.

うちの長男が４歳のときに購入し、大喜びした絵本。今年のクリスマスに３歳の甥にもプレゼントしたところ、他にももらったおもちゃそっちのけで、夢中で見ていました。ページのあちこちに、しかけがあり、『こんなところも動く！めくれる！』といった驚きもあります。そして、圧巻は最後のページの駅のしかけ。大人も一緒に楽しめる芸術的ともいえる絵本です。長男はもうすぐ６歳になりますが、今も時々ひっぱりだして見ています。強度もわりとあり、３歳くらいからなら大丈夫だと思います。電車が好きな子には絶対にお勧めです！

ずっと息子が欲しがっていた本でした。中古なので色褪せや多少の破れは仕方ないと思います。ですが、中身に欠損があるのがお店のコメントになくて残念でした。日本にはなかなかないダイナミックなしかけ本なので大切に使ってもらおうと思います。

英語がわからなくても、十分遊べます。駅に電車が出入りしたり、電車の中がのぞけたり、大人でも楽しめます。電車好きの甥っ子にプレゼントしたらとっても喜ばれました。
