I thought to myself after installing my smoke alarm, "How do i know its not defective? Even if it beeps when i press the test button, there could still technically be a problem with the sensor." So i tried testing it physically near a small fire (outdoors). When i tested a dual ionization & photoelectric sensor the same way, it went off immediately. When i used this one there was about a 30 second delay before it went off. That's to be expected given a photoelectric smoke alarm's main use is to detect smouldering fires that are yet to have an open flame and tend to have a slight delay compared to ionization alarms outside of this context. These are more ideal for kitchens that are likely to have the occasional burnt meal as you don't want the alarm going off unnecessarily. At the very least i was able to confirm the alarm works as expected of the type of smoke alarm.

As a smoke detector, I'm sure it's fine. I like that it's small (about 4" diameter) and that there are a couple of ways to mount it. I love the very strong magnets to mount it. My only issue is that it has a red light that blinks every minute. That's very annoying in the bedrooms. I had to put a piece of tape over the test button and that makes it look bad.

Small easy to mount and no need to climb a ladder for ten years sound like a plan for an old man. Loud it will wake you up.

These are smaller than the older ones. Buyer beware because you might have to paint the old stained area. Otherwise easy to install and work great.
