Works great!
This is a very good stud finder. It is accurate and easy to use. As you move it along the wall, the LEDs light up to show that you're approaching a stud, departing from a stud, or are right on target in the middle of one. Red lights show the approach and the departure, while a green light shows the center. It takes two AAA batteries, which were easy to install, once I figured it out. It's not obvious that there are two different colored LEDs, but as you slide it along the wall, they light up as they should and then you can see them. This stud finder has a lot going for it, so why the four stars instead of five? Basically, it has to do with the fact that there are essentially no instructions. There are some very minimal ones embossed onto the plastic back of the finder. They were hard to find, and hard to read. Plus, they didn't tell me anything that wasn't already intuitive. Opening the case to find where the batteries go in, or even the fact that it took batteries, was never explained. I think at least one small printed sheet would have helped. It is sturdy and useful. And once you figure it out for yourself it works like a charm. I included a picture of it next to a dollar bill for size reference.

Outstanding product
I rarely write reviews but this product is so outstanding that I felt it was worth my time to share. I do mounting professionally, so I need to find studs on a regular basis. If you are finding studs on drywall (sheet rock), a simple magnet will do. However, I regularly get jobs in houses and offices that have lathe and plaster walls, where the studs can be almost impossible to find short of drilling small holes in wall, even with assorted tricks you can find on the internet. However, this tool does an amazing job! I have yet to fail to identify the studs with this tool. Yes, sometimes more than three of the lights light up, but itโs no big deal because there are other ways to make sure you are on the stud. For example just scan until there are 3 lights most of the time. Measure across 16 inches (standard stud distance) and scan there as well for 3 lights. There is also the final check of drilling a small hole to detect the stud. The three light feature also has another outstanding benefit- it enables you locate the center of the stud, which can be useful on any kind of wall- drywall included. The first time I used the device on lathe and plaster I needed to hang a very large heavy duty automated blind. Finding the center of the stud was essential because the bracket holes were 1 inch a part, and a stud is 1.5 inches. So with the center of the stud identified, I could put the screws in just the right place! Remarkable! Without drilling excess holes etc. In fact that felt even more satisfying than countless projects on drywall- simply because I had the center of the stud whereas in the past I could barely find the stud at all on lathe and plaster! Highly recommend!!

Nice when it's not a false positive.
I got this to save time from finding studs for numerous projects over finding studs via magnet and to more accurately gauge the the entire stud and not just where a screw was used in the drywall. I also wanted to find if any crossbeams were installed for fire block for the cable runs I have planned. Anyways, it did detect studs well when I tested it on studs I had already located, but it also detected studs that didn't seem like they would exist due to not being either 16" or 24" from another stud. It also seemed to detect crossbeams, but when I ran a borescope attached to fish tape and a magnet in a wall it detected crossbeams in (overkill, but I really don't want to have to cut out a space in each wall I want to run cables in to drill or notch the crossbeam then have to patch and paint several walls if there isn't a crossbeam), I was able to run all the way to the top and confirmed it by seeing the the borescope video move when I used another magnet to at the top of the wall. The false positives seem to be from the drywall seams and possibly from electrical wires. Also, it just detects all kinds of stuff when looking for studs attached to concrete block, which makes it pretty much useless on those kinds of walls. I wouldn't rely exclusively on this, which is really disappointing as it was a recommendation and highly rated.

Great gadget
This wall stud finder is simple and effective. It accurately detects studs in walls, making hanging shelves or pictures much easier. Lightweight and easy to use, with a clear display. Perfect for DIY projects around the house, though not as advanced as some higher-end models.

works well
Have used this a few times now & it is great at identifying exact location of studs. It got a little confused one time (all lights illuminating across the wall). However, when used on the opposite side of wall it worked perfectly - so maybe there was something setting it off. Overall very pleased & would recommend over cheaper less accurate items.

Excellent Piece Of Kit.
This is the best one I've ever had and there's so many functions on it you can track your wall easily. Bought another one for my son when he moved to his turnkey semi detached house. Brilliant!
