Is it comfy enough to leave the harness on when putting the child in a car seat. The buckle at the back at the back looks lumpy?

on our grand daughter it would be ok with the leash disconnected as the harness buckles are down at the lower back area and a little to the side

No, it could be cut off. It’s comparable to backpack straps. However, it’s not going to rip. We have had ours a few years now and absolutely love it! It’s literally saved my sons life.

This should absolutely help you keep him safe. Definitely test it out with him a few times but I bought one for my grandson and it’s amazing!
