Not an easy reàd

There are two plot lines that seem to have no connection whatsoever and the secondary plot line especially feels like it's draining on and on. Finally, they converge, but the pay off isn't worth the wait.

A superb story that keeps one waiting for the next turn of the page. I do prefer continuity of the storyline but the end is more surprising than that of the movie. A great read.

Amazing first novel written by a gifted writer in an unusual elevated English, filled with germanisms and frenchisms. Is this language a peculiarity of this author? Or is it just the language he assigned these characters?Only time (and a second novel) will tell.

Das Buch war spannend, manchmal verliert man aber etwas den Überblick, weil die Geschichte zum großen Teil rückwärts mit immer neuen Personen erzählt wird. Ich war dann gespannt auf das Ende, denn es war schnell klar, dass noch eine ganz andere Geschichte dahinterstecken musste. Und das lohnte sich.

By the time I was done reading ( 2nd day), I really enjoyed this book. It started a little slow. Those looking for a fast pace thriller may be disappointed. I would described this book as a historical, psychological novel with twists. For a first novel, I found the plot and development of same to be very sophisticated. More than any page turner I have read recently I find myself reflecting on the manner in which the author developed the 2 main characters, providing insight into the eventual outcome. I almost fell out of my chair when I figured it out ( well before the end ). Wow!I was never one for English class - but I would love to write the Clifotes version for this.

Great mystery! I liked how it was written from the two main characters' voices. It was done so well that although I knew from the start that the man was a con man (it's not a spoiler since it's revealed in the first few pages) the twist still caught me by surprise and I was very impressed!
