Fantastic NAS device.
If you need tons of storage, this device meets the bill. It has the ability to do far more than just host disks, but the CPU on this device is not up to snuff for doing much else besides hosting disks. If you are looking for a device that can do more effectively you need one that has a much better processor. The issue is cost for the faster CPU's this company like all he others make you pay 20X more than what the good intel processors actually cost. However, for the price, if all you ant is fast storage that has many different ways of partitioning the data this is a fantastic choice. What I loved the most was it having 2 10g SFP+ ports. This allowed for direct connect to my server, as well as providing 10 gig speeds to the rest of my network.Setting it up was simple, all you need is some basic knowledge, however the online help is fantastic and easy to find as each screen has a help icon that describes in good detail what you need to know. As far as tech support, almost non existent, I had several questions that were never responded too. However, there were minor questions, and ones I was able to google.

Great value great company great performance
I like the proce for 1300 bucks for a full featured 12 bay box with ssd and m.2 cant be beat. The performance is too especially for home or small business use. This base model is plenty. Maybe if u had a lot of users then I would get a one with a bigger CPU. QNAP has great customer support u call the number and within one ring u get a knowledgeable human on the phone.

Very, very poor 10GbE network performance
I was hoping that this would be a good replacement for a failed QNAP NAS that had served me well over the past ten years. To my surprise the performance of this particular NAS is abysmal. When connected to another NAS via a 10GbE fiber optic interface the transfer rate from NAS to NAS was actually less than that of a 1GbE interface and the CPU utilization on this particular 1635 approached 90% on peaks.I have reached out to QNAP Tech support and will give them a chance to assist me and, if they can, I will be glad to update my ratings as appropriate.

Works well, with one or two little issues
This QNAP TS1635AX is being used for a home backup/personal cloud server with future plans for media storage. The disk bays are tool-less and quite easy to load. I have 8 6TB enterprise drives in mine now.It seems to run adequately fast and was fairly easy to set up if you have some familiarity with defining users, assigning folders, etc.Issues? First, M.2 cache drives. The main circuit board in this NAS has two M.2 slots on board to mount solid state drives, for use as a speed-up cache. Great idea, BUT when they say M.2, they mean plain SATA type M.2, NOT NvME drives, which will not work. Be sure your choice has two cutout slots in the edge connector. (I used Crucial MX500s.) There is also a PCIE expansion card slot in this box and it is possible to buy a card that will carry two M.2 drives on it. So, use both, you get a total of 4, right? Wrong. This NAS will only accommodate 2 M.2 drives regardless of where they are. You can put them either onboard, OR on the expansion card, not both. This is not made clear in the documentation.Second, adding RAM. This NAS comes with a single stick of 4GB DDR4 RAM, which occupies the one and only single DIMM slot. (really? they couldn't have at least sprung for two slots?) This can be expanded to 16GB. This NAS is VERY VERY PICKY about what RAM you use. If you think you can just use any old stick of RAM with the same specs and have it work, THINK AGAIN. QNAP wants you to buy their "approved" RAM at a ridiculously extortionate price. After trying several generic sticks that did not work, I found that Crucial will sell you RAM that is guaranteed to work, at a reasonable price. It did indeed work and is still working fine.Overall I am pleased and this NAS is performing as expected. Normally I am a Synology fan but I wanted to try QNAP, and it was a pleasant experience for the most part. If the opportunity arises I would consider buying another QNAP.
A**.
NAS works as expected. Customer service is superb.
The documentation provided, including the links to online documentation was not great, some topics did not seem to apply to my model so I called the tech support line, their hours are 9-9 EST. I promptly got a knowledgeable gentleman who offered to Teamviewer into my system and assist with the setup. Since I use Teamviewer anyway this was easily done and he got my up and running as well as answering all my questions, in fact he was so good that I ended up calling back a couple of times when I had questions on an error message and the length of time setting up the RAID was taking, this sort of support makes you lazy! If the support was not so good I would have probably spent more time looking in forums etc for my answers.
