As far as what it's designed to do, the single TACO works very well, it'll hold AR-style mags (AR-10 mags may not fit quite as deeply due to being wider), AK mags (7.62 will extend out a good 2" farther than an AR or 5.45 mag so keep that in mind for space concerns.), and probably everything short of a drum or coffin mag. Tension is relatively easy to adjust, but I would advise doing so before mounting it on a belt or PC, as you have to draw the shock cord through all of its loops to actually tighten the entire thing, the provided HSGI plastic clips mount the holder securely to whatever platform you wish, and are relatively easy to install, certainly more so than standard MALICE clips (I would still recommend having a flathead screwdriver handy to help with routing the clips). My only complaint in terms of build is that the way the shockcord weave is setup seems backwards to how I personally think it should be, this is an easy thing to fix and doesn't affect my overall opinion of the TACO. The MOLLE webbing on the front and back combined with the sewn in loop allow easy setup for an elastic pull-tab string for more secure mag retention, but you will need to source your own shock cord and pulltabs. Overall, very pricy for a mag holder, but it works well, seems durable, and works with just about any 30 round standard rifle mag.

Is it expensive for a mag pouch? Yes. Yes it is. Is it the most fantastic mag pouch ever devised? Yes. Yes it is. Really though. One-size fits all (even AUG magazines, which are notoriously difficult), reliable, rugged, and easy to use. You can even stuff a water bottle in one of these things. Use for anything and everything. If I had one gripe, it would be that there's no over-the-top securing strap. But since I've yet to have anything come loose of one of these pouches, that's a very small gripe.

HSGI is THE standard for kit today. If you need a magazine holder, for either rifle or pistol, and either belt mounted or MOLLE/PALS, this is the way you must go. The price runs higher than most but you're getting your money's worth. Top notch for tactical use as retention is friction only, but you can run bungee retention if you really want. I've never had a mag come loose or even move, loaded and upside down or rolling around.

Great AR mag holder. Rugged and tough. Built to last. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Could it be cheaper? Yes. Would I rather use any other mag pouch? No. These pouches are great. Full disclaimer I use them for airsoft not real steel. That being said they are great easy to index on the fly and even faster to draw from. They mount solid and hold your mags solid. If you can afford them I would get them.

I have a few different rifles that prefer different mags. I like to run PMAGS in all my ARs, I like to run aluminum mags in a few off the shelf rifles, and I also run AUG mags in the AUG. I don't want to own several different shapes and sizes of kydex, and now I don't need to. If you need one pouch to do it all, this is probably the bet place to start. Even though these come with molle clips, I just thread my belt through the clips and it works just fine in that fashion. They do make velcro straps that do the same job (and probably better), but the molle clips are tight enough that I don't really feel it moving on my belt when I withdraw a mag from it. It does fight tight around the mags, but they are somewhat adjustable in this department. This is cool because it lets you balance speed and retention to your own liking.

I've been hearing praise for the HSGI taco pouches for many years but was happy with other mag carriers I owned. I finally tried these after setting up some new gear and couldn't be happier. PROPERLY threading them (so they don't slide up/down at all once mounted) was a bit of a hassle, but that's just the nature of the attachment style: not a fault of HSGI. I got 2 of the rifle mag pouches and then the double pistol mag pouch. All 3 are perfect.

An alternative ise. I use it for a holder for my backup battery. Anker 20100 Power core battery. Fits perfectly.
