Q: what is the diameter of base?

The King & Queen = Approximately 1 3/8"The Rook & Knight = Approximately 1 1/2"The Pawn = Approximately 1"It is a nice set. I was surprised that the pieces were heavy in weight for the price charged.

Q: I need to buy a board too so would you recommend one for me please?

The base of the king and queen are approximately 1.5 inches/3.5 cm in diameter. So a board with minimum 1.75inch squares would be fine, as would a 2 inch square. Depends on your preference. Snug fit or a little more room.

Q: It’s coming with metal inside or is solid plastic?

I really don't know but I can tell you they are plastic BUT they are quite sturdy and weighty so there might be metal (or something keeping the weight at the bottom of each piece.) It's a nice set.

Q: What material is used to weight the pieces? Is it lead?

I do not know what material they use to weight these chess pieces. I have the triple weighted ones and they are quite heavy and feel solid. I’m guessing it’s some kind of metal. It’s probably is lead. But they’re well-made and sturdy. And are regulation tournament standards.
