Love the microwave. Easy to use, quiet and large capacity.

This is excellent because:HEATINGIt uses sensors to find cold spots in the food. This is the first microwave oven I've ever used that evenly reheats challenging foods like tamales. In the past, the centers with the filling were usually frozen while the masa on the outside was steaming hot. I always figured this was in part because of the differences in water content in the filling vs the dough on the outside. This evenly and successfully reheats tamales, sausages, burritos, cooked oatmeal with frozen blueberries on top, and everything else we've tried. I might try corn on the cob next.COOKINGWe don't really use the microwave to cook much. I'll try some rice and update this review. It doesn't boil water very well. From reading the manual, that seems intentional. The concern is that it is possible to bring water up to a temperature that exceeds boiling without the water bubbling. I know that seems weird, but it is true. When one moves the pot/bowl/glass with this boiling water, it can release all the pressure from the captured water vapor explosively. This doesn't happen in a turntable microwave, they shake up the water too much. With a flatbed microwave like this one, it can happen because the boiling hot water isn't moved. So even though getting water to a boil is difficult, the water is still plenty hot enough for ramen, tea, and such. Not sure about spaghetti yet.NOISEOurs is very quiet. Not having the clunk and clatter of a turntable really helps. I also turned off all the dings, which is a really nice feature.Amazon wants me to address reliability, ease of cleaning, button responsiveness, installation, and the interior light, so here goes. It is very easy to clean. With multiple microwave emitters, keeping it clean is essential. Please do clean it before first use. I steamed some water in it 3X for about 2 minutes, wiping it out after each run, to clean it. The buttons are not great, it can be easy to miss hitting the right spot, but this is trivial. Ease of use - the greatest difficulty is the with the labels used for the sensor reheat and sensor cook functions. They show useless labels like SR4 instead of pasta. Installation is trivial, this is a countertop unit. The interior light is sufficient.SHORT TIMEI've had this less than a week, I'll come back to this review in a couple of months. However, I can say this flatbed (no turntable) microwave does a far better job heating foods, including composites with multiple ingredients stacked together, far better than any other microwave I've had.

A great microwave. Works very well. It matches my black stainless steel appliances perfectly. Very happy with this purchase.

My family started using Microwave ovens in the late 1970's they were enormous back then but they were powerful and did a good job.The first one I purchased for myself was a 1100 watt magic chef in the late 1980's it travelled with me for decades and worked great for something like 20 years and was still working when I gave it to a friend.Then in the 2000's I noticed a shift where it was not common to find 1100 watt microwaves and it has continued till this day where 1000 watts is where most top out.Anyway there have been other microwaves all pretty much disappointing in performance and as of recently I said that's it! I want a high performance microwave with a good interior size no more of these cramped 1.2 CF interiors and purchased this one as the exterior dimensions are not that much greater at 1.6 CF interior room.When I received this one I was at first amazed how light weight it is compared to the one it was replacing and realized it is the inverter technology lightening things up. It is so light weight in fact it will skid across the table opening and closing it.No problem I just put some drawer liners under the feet to keep it from sliding around.When I plugged it in for the first time it made a horrible noise I thought what the heck this is brand new where is this noise coming from?? at first I thought it was a bad gear in the turn table mechanism and tried to turn it with my fingers to feel if there was anything wrong with it but it was tight which it should be.After turning it on and off a few times I zeroed in on the sound and discovered it was a fan hitting something internally so being a technician I took the cowling off being very mindful not to touch any high energy components like capacitors or come in contact with wiring which could be potentially lethal.Note: It does require tamper proof Torx head screw drivers or a very good precision set of Torx drivers to remove the case screws to get into the appliance.Note: I do not recommend or endorse nor encourage that anyone should do as I have done but illustrate an issue with Quality Control on Toshibas part and the actions I took to correct it so others are aware when making this purchase they may encounter the same issue.Note: People who are unfamiliar with electricity, electronics or working with and around High Voltages weather it be DC or AC Circuits should not attempt to open one of these units as it can be lethal. Certain components like capacitor's will carry a lethal charge of electricity that can last for weeks even when unplugged and it can kill you.Note: I myself have been an electronics Technician in many professional work environments including appliance repair for decades and am still learning and always wary of touching anything I do not understand and even more cautious of touching things I do understand.I then discovered a metal duct work for channeling the air over components was not installed correctly (see picture included with this review) and I needed to bend it to get it out of the way of the fan blades, Two screws later and cautiously removing the shroud using insulated magnetic tools then a quick bend with a pair of needle nose plyers replaced the shroud and the problem was solved.After repairing this minor Issue, the Microwave works better than any I have ever used.Coffee & tea perfectly hot within 1 minute and I like mine HOT.Cook times are greatly reduced and the cooking is more even.Defrost by weight works perfectly, amazingly so.The feature to turn off the chimes is priceless no more stupid loud dinging when starting and finishing a cook cycle.When you turn off the noise however the kitchen timer also does not make noise.The microwave is also extremely quiet when running.All in all I am very pleased with this Microwave and hope what I experienced was just a one off, otherwise Toshiba had better get there Quality Control act together or there are going to be allot of returns for a very simple issue that should never have been permitted to leave the factory.

Wow - I'm impressed.Some background so you know we're I'm coming from: Our Tappen digital microwave from 1993 finally died - if only all my appliances had this sort of life! It was a 1000 watts with a turntable, but nothing fancy beyond that. For 32 years it served us well but one of the high-powered diodes died. Time to replace it.We didn't want a convection oven microwave combo, we already have a great convection oven. But I did want a microwave that used Inverter technology and had a few additional sensors. For me, it came down to a Panasonic or the Toshiba. They had nearly identical features, stats, and comparable dimensions. The deciding factor was the door handle - we wanted a door with a real handle, not one of the "push-button, pop open" doors. The Toshiba fit all criteria.The model we chose was the Toshiba ML-EM45PIT In black stainless trim. 1250 watts, inverter technology, temperature AND humidity sensors and several built-in cooking algorithms. This thing is practically silent. The first time we fired it up with a mug of water we both worried that we'd received a defective unit. But, in 20 seconds we had a steaming mug of water. It worked.Our second test was a medium-sized potato. For this I just pierced the skin a few times, placed it on a small ceramic plate and simply pressed the "potato" button. It didn't ask the size, it just put some numbers on the screen and the moisture sensor indicator lit up. In four minutes that oven stopped, I left the potato alone in the oven for another minute with the microwave off, then took it out. It was as close to great as I've ever seen from a microwave. No burning, perfectly cooked with only one tiny dry area. 9 out of 10 - I pressed one button and the microwave did the rest; the result was good.Next up was microwave popcorn. We don't eat it much, but I was in an experimenting mood. The oven has a popcorn button, you press it once for 1.75 oz size, twice for 3.0 oz size, and a third time for a larger size that I don't remember. Of course, ours was 2.5 oz and didn't fit any of those choices. So I selected the 3.0 oz size and figured I'd stop the oven when the popping stops. That ended up being 2 minutes - the popcorn was perfect with only 3 unpopped kernels and no burning whatsoever. I was impressed. 7 out of 10, nice job - but I did have to stop it myself.My last experiment was reheating a plate of food - leftovers. The big size comes into it's own here; it easily fits a large dinner plate. The oven has a sensor-driven "reheat" button that uses a temperature sensor to automatically adjust the cooktime and power. The manual says not to open the oven part way or it will throw off the temperature sensor ...so I didn't. I just let the oven do it's thing. The plate came out pretty good, all of the food was reheated, even without stirring or futzing - though some parts were not as hot as I would have liked. Another 10 seconds on high fixed that problem. 8 out of 10, the automatic setting was impressive, but I like my food very hot.Overall I'm impressed. The intelligent features and sensors are very nice and do a fairly good job - but they are not perfect. The inverter claims to be more even heat, that seems to be the case - but remember, my point of reference was a 32-year-old microwave. Still, it does appear to cook evenly. Appearance is subjective but I like the dark stainless. The real door handle is a winner for me... I hate those push-button doors. It's powerful! that 1250 watts shines when you want to heat water in very little time. Operationally - the thing is practically silent. Normally you hear fans, or a motor turning the turntable, but you really have to strain to hear those things with this Toshiba. Honestly, it's the biggest talking point in my house is how nearly silent it is. I guess our life just isn't that interesting! Recommend the Toshiba, and I do recommend the inverter technology. I can see a difference.UPDATE 4-November-2025:Now we've had this Toshiba ML-EM45PIT for about a month and a half. I have to say, we still love it. HOWEVER, this thing is powerful... maybe too powerful. We've learned there are very few things we can actually cook on high for amount of time without it absolutely irradiating it. It's not a bad, we simply select 80 or 90% power and things cook very well. But whenever any packaged food calls for xx-minutes on "High", we adjust it for the same amount of time on 80 or 90% power to get good results. The defrost feature is adequate, but nothing more. The oven is still super-quiet, it still amazes us how quiet this thing is ...it's spooky. Nevertheless - still recommended. It's a great microwave.
