Aquarium Ocean Lamp

We've just bought our third one of these in the past 4 or 5 years, which kind of shows both the good and the bad. The good: it makes a great nightlight for our 2-year-old's (now 6 year old) room. The light is a nice blue color that feels like "night" and is just the right brightness. I don't think he really pays much attention to the fish anymore, but as a little-er guy he liked them. It runs pretty much every night, and lasts for a bit over a year.The bad, is that it does only last a bit over a year. Once the bulb goes out you're done -- there's no way for the user to change the bulb. It's an odd size bulb and completely wired in, so it's not an option. So if you like it you're going to be buying a new one when the first one wears out. But, they're cheap.The other thing, which might be more of an issue for some, is they're not exactly silent. There's been variation among the 3 we've had, but you do hear a bit of motor noise. It's not that harsh and not all that loud, but it is there. I guess it depends on the kid whether that's a problem or not. fortunately for ours it has not been.

I purchased this aquarium lamp for my four year old grandson. I'd gotten him one (another brand purchased somplace else!) two years ago and he turned it on each night when going to bed. He would watch the fish, etc., swim around until he fell asleep after which his father snuck into his room and turned it off. When his first one stopped working his parents he found it difficult to fall asleep without being able to watch the fish swim so his Grandma came to the rescue and found a better one through Amazon. Within a couple of days his new aquarium lamp was on his bedside table and he was once again able to slumber into dreamland with no problems.The aquarium lamp has beautiful colors and it's quiet when running. Even though the fish move in a continuous circle, it's still enjoyable to watch. It's the perfect night light for a little boy who really enjoys watching it each night.

We got this "aquarium" for our 18 month old son. He loves our real aquarium in the living room and gets excited when when hold him up and he is able to "talk" to the fish. So we got this for Christmas for his bedroom, and it was a big hit! My 3 and 6 year old daughters loved it too, and wished we had gotten one for them! The fish rotate around the aquarium in a revolving fashion, and the light comes out a blue-ish hue and is brighter than I expected. It still works well as a new "night light" for his room- we just have it set up across the room from his bed. He has treated it like an 18 month old boy can- dropped it, pounded on it, carried it around- on Christmas day, and it held up to his abuse. It is now safe on a dresser, but I am impressed it held up to the pounding. Overall I would recommend.

This is my daughter's second one of these. She uses it every night to watch as she falls asleep. The only complaint that she has is that it isn't silent because it makes a little whirring noise as the scene turns but she's adjusted to it and now says the sound also helps her fall to sleep. The only reason we had to get a second one is because while she and her brother were playing, they knocked it down and accidentally stepped on it causing it to crack. It is very sturdily made as long as you don't step on it. :)

I read such mixed reviews on this lamp that I was almost afraid to order. Then about two weeks after it arrived, it stopped working. So I figured the bad reviews were justified. But when my mom was baby-sitting my daughter, she whacked the lamp, and it started up again! It has been working ever since. My daughter LOVES the fish swimming. It's pretty hypnotizing to sit and watch. This lamp pretty much serves as her night-light, and it's plenty bright. I would recommend with some reservations, namely that I don't think the quality is great so you might have to thump the thing a time or two if it quits on you.

Like most of the other reviewers, this item starts out great, but soon starts making loud grinding noises, then the bulb burns out in 9 months and is supposedly non-replaceable. I am adept at repairing things so I took it apart to see if it was true what others have said about the bulb. It is hardwired in, being soldered to a small circuit board, making it non-replaceable for most. However, this does not make the bulb absolutely non-replaceable. It can be replaced IF YOU CAN FIND A REPLACEMENT BULB and if you have the skills to de-solder the burned out bulb and solder in a replacement. I could not find a bulb that met the requirements, so I guess, in fact, it is utterly non-replaceable.However, when you pro-rate the price, about $16 for 9 months of pleasure for your wife (less than $2/month) it does become somewhat worth it. There are MANY other things that cost WAY MORE than $2/month, so, all in all, I guess this might not be such a bad piece of crap after all.

This was a replacement lamp for our "Discovery Kids Safari Lamp" which became damaged and we later discovered there had been a recall on them. This Item arrived promptly and was well packaged. It works as specified and I have paid close attention to the temperature of the lamp since the recall on the similar lamp was due to high heat and fire hazard. This lamp stays cool and has not even gotten warm. My toddler loves this lamp. It is quiet with a slight soothing whirring noise as the inside rotates around. It gives off a soothing glow at night so it is a perfect night light. The only con I can think of is the bulb is non replaceable.

I only used this probably 4 times...it ripped on the inside and now isn't even functional.Waste of money in my opinion
