This is the second time I've bought these and I was debating between 4 and 5 stars but settled on 5 stars because my gripes are things I only experienced outside the normal usage of this item. For 8 months my badge lives in my hip pocket with the reel dangling out while the other 4 months I wear it on my lapel. While in my pocket it banged around on alot of things which deteriorated the finish of the reel, bent the clasp, cracked the housing, and the screw that holds the 2 halves of the housing together loosened and prevented the cord from retracting. I was able to bend the clasp back into working order and disassemble the reel to rewind the spring and cord which now works like normal. Even with a cracked housing and worn finished it looks and works good. I've never lost my badge because the snap that attaches to the badge keeps it secured to the reel. The price is more than fair for the quality of the product. It's about as easy to use as it can get.

I was needing something lighter weight but wanted to leave review regardless as these badge holders / keyrings seem well made and very sturdy. Would recommend for use on jeans or tool belt, or to attach to bag etc. Worthy of purchase in my opinion, unless you want something cheap and lightweight.

I use my key card about 10 times a day at work, and prefer to have it on my belt. Our office provides reels, but they don’t last more than 6 months before the metal belt clip shears off the back of the reel case, the cord snaps, or the plastic loop lets go and the ID key card falls off without notice. I even had some fail literally the first time I pulled the card off my waist as I walked back to my desk from getting a new reel. I got fed up and bought this reel. It just gave up today after 15 months of use, the cord came out of the small metal part that holds the loop for the key card. I would use the other one that came in the 2 pack but I gave it to a coworker who was also fed up. Will be reordering. Wish it lasted longer, but it has felt much more secure, and the plastic loop that connects holds the badge showed no signs of wear which was my biggest trust issue with the cheaper front-desk issued reels. Just beware that with a metal construction, there is added weight. It is significantly heavier than a plastic reel, but that never bothered me, especially given the alternative. Still lighter than a pocket knife or a smart phone.

It is been 2 years since I purchased a pack of 2. I wanted a second one so I'd have an immediate replacement if the cord broke. While it did not break. The cord, after 2 years of pulling and releasing to scan multiple readers everyday, it finally frayed and started to not retract. I made through the day until I could get home and actually Search for the 2nd one. The reel and other parts still in good working condition. It's a shame the cord cant be replaced some how. Now looking forward to another long use of my second Will Well Retractable Badge Holder.

Heavy duty and durable, bigger and heavier than average, would be good for someone in trades/ construction etc that needs something heavy duty

Bought these 4 times throughout the years for work. They were perfect. Now it’s completely different. It’s thinner, not as heavy duty and the color is off which bothers me. It looks cheaper too.

I'm in maintenance and my company issues cheap plastic retracting lanyards with our security/access badges. I've broken several over the years, almost losing my access badge and master key one time. I decided I needed to get a better one, and went to the local Home Depot. They had a beaded chain-model that seemed better, so I bought it. I broke that one within a few months as well. After checking around on amazon I decided to go with this model. So far its has been great. The action is really smooth, no extra force needed to get it started. The outer metal body seems solid and the braided steel cable has a lot of strength. There is also a small rubber spacer where the cable meets the key chain, this help reduce shock when letting your badge/key go and letting it retract by itself. The plastic on the card holder has reinforcements woven into it so seems like it will last. the only part I'm unsure of the the rotating action inside. It seems great now but that tends to be the part that breaks over time, I'll update my review if/when it finally breaks. Overall very happy so far, 5 Stars for a well designed and built product that does its job well. Also really happy about the price, gave the second on to another maintenance guy. Update 8/27/19: I've been using this every day for several months without a problem, so far so good. Update 9/18/20: It finally broke after well over a year of heavy use. A kink formed in the braided steel cable that eventually gave out. I immediately order a replacement, this is the best badge holder I have ever used! Update 7/21/21: The second one i bought is still going strong, almost a year in

Doesn’t come setup. Difficult to do by oneself

Item actually feels solid compared to the cheaper retractable cords you can get. You can feel the quality difference in it when using it. Only thing that people may not like is that it is significantly heavier than I expected, but I guess this shows it's quality.
