The coast of California, where Mary Heebner lives, is so parallel in its geography, blueness, and diverse forms of the shores from rocks to cliffs to wide sand to Neruda's mar at Isla Negra where he'd look out at that same Pacific ocean to form his poems. Mary is able to capture that intrinsic beauty of his sea and his poetry in this wonderful book of art. And you could ask for no better translator than Alastair Reid. Neruda loved how he'd walk barefoot all around his house and the beach at Isla Negra barefoot. And he loved his translations, as do I. Neruda said that "to me, the ocean is an element like air." This book of his poems about his sea, combined with the sublime blues of Mary Heebner's art, makes for such a great book for your coffee table, or as a gift, as I have given it now to six different people.

This book is stunning. The paper is high-quality, and the dual Spanish-English translation on each page makes reading any of the poems an experience unto itself. As usual, Neruda wows in every line of every poem - although you may have read many of the poems in this collection, as I have, the abstract paintings and layout make this book a must-buy. I actually bought a copy as a thank-you gift for someone in a bookstore and then had to buy myself a copy because I loved it so much!

Nice compilation for fans. His passion for the sea shines through loud and clear. I've sat on the bench in front of his house on the ocean in Chile on a sunny day listening the to waves and wind and understood what he felt. He loved the sea. I recommend it.

I love that this is a hardback book and a beautiful compilation of some of Neruda's works.

I gave it to my professor. The pictures are beautiful and the Spanish is wonderful.

I wish I had looked at the product dimensions before buying, because this thing is clearly meant for display. Its too big for comfortable reading, but its a nice edition to just have on the shelf.
