I now understand what the craze is about. Just buy it.
I never realized what the craze was about using camera cages... UNTIL I started learning how to shoot video.I started out using my cameras for photography only, but I'm slowly transitioning into video as most clients are becoming interested in not only images but video. So in purchasing additional accessories I noticed all of these accessories won't be able to fit on my camera as it only have one hot shoe. Here enters Small Rig. The more I researched the more I discovered video shooters and filmmakers swears by this product. They're able to attach so many accessories - monitors, additional batteries, flashes, storage, handles... This thing does it all.. and it looks beautifully machined and solid.I'm very happy with this product. I thought it was a little pricey, but when you want the best sometimes you have to pay for it.There are two points of contact - the bottom screw and there's an additional allen wrench and screw where you attach the top right metal strap holder to the cage.

Don't walk away from this thing
If your camera and a tank made a child, this would be it.I love this thing.Keeps my camera safe while allowing me basically every attachment point for whatever I may try and rig on there.I looked at this cage for a long time before buying it, wondering if it's worth it, and yes, it's well worth it👌🏾I have a top and side handle mounted to mine and it's perfect for Run n Gun shooting. Also looking forward to building an entire rig using this cage.I prefer the larger one that accommodates the battery grip. It offers more real estate for all the gadgets and gizmos, plus it looks badass!

High quality rig, tho overpriced.
Definitely worth the investment if you have the funds. This specific rig keeps your camera extremely sturdy and balances perfect on a tripod. Even a cheap tripod like mine.

Too much
It is seriously too much for a camera this size. Just upgrade to a cinema cam if needed. Returning

Great Feel!
It's very well built. It feels really good in the hand. Only thing that comes up from time to time is the screw coming loose so make sure to have a screwdriver in your camera bag.

Almost Perfect -but I hope you're listening Small Rig.
This cage is designed for a Sony A7-style camera with a (Sony or 3rd party) battery "grip" attached. I utilizing this larger body for the better hand gripping area, ability to easily shoot vertically and the longer battery life. I'm using an A7 III in this config for still and video work. The cage is a little boxy, but you won't find many options when using a battery grip in your build. I think I've come across only 3 makes including this one, before you get into the larger, cumbersome, generic, frame-type cages. This was the best I found. SmallRig is thoughtful with many 1/4-20, 3/8 and 3/8 w/ locating pin mounting points on all sides. There is also the nice addition of a an integrated NATO rail on the port-side. It is very usable- but beware as it is VERY close to the actual ports. There are several HDMI clamps for different cameras models available separately from Small Rig / Amazon. The camera is secured by 2 1/2 points- the 1/4-20 tripod on the bottom, bolting using the strap eyelet on the media-side of the camera and friction against the frame itself. It feels solid and flexing is minimal. Allen screw and wrench for eyelet included. I should note that there were no instructions included, but securing and operation is pretty self-explanatory.My three biggest disappointments (with the hope SmallRIg listens and improves) - #1 I wish they had added one or two more short NATO rails into the frame on the top or the opposite side of the cage. #2 The exclusion of the an integrated Arca Swiss mount as found on Small Rig's #2268 A6000 + battery grip cage. This wouldn't have been difficult to include in the design. Grooves or fins could have been milled on the bottom edges and enough of the lower part of the media-side of the cage to allow Horizontal AND Vertical mounting as well. This would eliminate the need for an Arca plate or Arca L plate, allowing for some very increased flexibility and simplicity. #3 is the 15mm LWS rod receiver attachment (Small Rig #1943) recommended for this cage. It's great this is even an option on a battery grip cage. It is Metabones adapter compatible and flexible- being able to be mounted upside down, if so desired, to lower and increase the rod distance from the lens. The problem is the rod receiver is aprox 30mm deep added to the mounting point aprox 20mm already out from the camera body profile (to accommodate the fat part of the grip at the bottom). Several of my native E mount lenses were too short to utilize a follow focus motor, because the usable part of the rod was set too far out to rearch the gear teeth on the lens. If you end up having the same issue, look for Small Rig's bolt on single rod receiver options (i.e. SmallRig #1995) and mount to the top of the cage. Any longer lens, like a Cinema Lens or adapted Canon L series shouldn't be a problem. Yes, these are somewhat specific issues, but common enough to warrant inclusion in future designs.Overall, I give this extended cage an 8/10 rating because it does what it says it does and does offer my kit more flexibility. I just wish the designers / engineers at Small Rig would consider flexibility and how such a camera configured this way might be used in the real world. Consumer- Expect to do some research on the accessories you need and leave yourself time to configure and test. I have found all the SmallRig products I have purchased over the years have been consistently been useful (some even clever) and affordable. This cage is no exception. Recommend.(Note: Unfortunately, Amazon does not carry all the products that Small Rig sells through their own site- so you may have to track down parts individually and cross reference. Amazon remains the better option to check first, for price, shipping cost and delivery speed , esp if you have PRIME. Best to consult BOTH locations before placing your order(s). There is quite a bit more detail and config suggestions on the corp site to help find part numbers. I had to do that to discover that the HDMI clamp I needed for my A7III was not currently sold by Amazon.)

Compatible with the a9 and a Mieke grip
I love this cage because it protects my camera from bumps and drops. It is built very well the metal is of high quality and is not heavy. It is also compatible with third-party grips. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to protect their camera.

No quick release
No quick release The A7r II cage was comfortable with two quick releases. I have cropped the upper left corner a bit and am using it for my A7R IV.
