Short answer = nothing works better than this. Just apply it the moment you feel the tingle.

Is this better than DocoShield?

I have not used docoshield, but this does work very well. When I feel a cold sore coming on I put on and it stops or minimizes the cold sore.

How do you guys apply it?

Just 1drop on your finger then apply. Don't squeeze bottle hard, it is very thin but it works GREAT! It is the only thing I use
