The Stagg EKG Kettle: a story in three parts.1. I ordered the kettle from Amazon. It was ludicrously spendy for me, but so beautiful. Nothing else on the market comes close. And given the repeated heat waves in the Northeast this summer, I wanted a kettle that could heat my water for coffee without adding heat to the house. When it finally arrived, I unpacked it, ooohed and aahhed at the beauty, added water, plugged it in and.... nothing. No LCD, no heating, simply.. nothing. Sighing heavily, I assumed it was an anomaly and sent it back. I ordered a replacement version that same day.2. Take two: a few days later, the second Stagg kettle arrives from Amazon. Unpack, plug it in.... aaaaand nothing. Double check the plug, move it to different outlets, reset said outlets - finally, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the LCD lights up with "Fellows." But nothing further. (I've now hit the "on" button about a zillion times). So, in frustration I tweet, Facebook IM and send a message the Fellows Support folks on their website. The Fellows customer service rep got back to me within the hour, ***from his vacation*** to help me out. Said that definitely shouldn't be happening and said, "Please let me send you one directly from our warehouse." Asked for the Amazon order numbers, as he thought perhaps there is something in Amazon's handling that is affecting performance of the kettle. In the meantime, I've gotten Kettle #2 to actually heat water to the boiling point once (on the 100th try or so), so I message the CSR back and say "Maybe it's working?" Next attempt? The LCD said "no water" and refused to do anything. Back it goes. I returned to the CSR and requested a kettle direct from Fellows: I was happy to pay for a replacement kettle, but he insisted on sending it free of charge to compensate for my hassle.3. EUREKA! The third-time's-a-charm kettle arrived about 3 weeks ago. It has worked like a charm ever since the first minute. Heats like a dream, quickly, efficiently. Holds the temperature accurately to about 1 degree. Pours easily, smoothly and effortlessly. My husband (who initially scoffed at the price) is increasingly enamored of this kettle, and says frequently (sheepishly) how much he loves it. It is everything all of the 5-star reviews say and more. So, finally although I've had very good luck with Amazon over the years, my advice to you on this one is: go directly to the source. You won't regret it. And a very huge shoutout to Fellows support for A++ customer service!

Great Design and Functionality -- Overpriced Even for the Quality
I have two of these Kettles, one is close to three years old and runs and looks the same the one I purchased recently. I spent the extra money for the wooden handles. I'm glad I did as they are attractive. Be sure to treat the wood with food grade mineral oil a few times to protect the wood from splitting and to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.PROS- Precise temperature regulation which is important for experimenting with coffee pour overs- Heats quickly- Quality materials and manufacturing- Aesthetically pleasing- Possibly healthier in that it appears not to be boiling water in aluminum encased heating elementsCON- Expensive- The actuating knob is a little finnicky (minor issue)UPDATEI continue to be pleased with these kettles. You can purchase similar devices for one-quarter the cost but I have not seen any competitor approach the quality in design, materials, and manufacture. I'm updating based on a conversation with a Fellow representative about my Aiden coffee maker. He emphasized the importance of preserving these investments by frequent descaling. How often you descale your kettle will depend on your water chemistry but he suggested descaling at the very first sign of white residue on the stainless steel plate inside the pot. For me, that would be every 3-4 months.

5 years and still going strong
I purchased this in 2019 to start making pour overs at home and I have never been disappointed with its performance. The goods:It looks amazingHeats water up fastPour spout(contentious but it’s good for proper pour overs)Ergonomic, and feels good to use, feels premium..maybe besides the lidTemperature control is precise and the dial is satisfying to useEasy to cleanThe badThe lid, while not overtly bad could be better for how much you have to interface with it, and is prone to rust.If this thing breaks, you likely won’t hear much back from fellow about getting replacement parts. Repairability is bad here. Mine has been fine but have had to open the base to jiggle a wire once or twice when it refused to heat.Besides the lid and the fact that this likely won’t last as long as some other brands, particularly the bonavita, this is an ideal kettle. I have seen some complaints from people on a few things. Some valid some not:The top leaks. The intended use of the kettle is not for large amounts of water to be heated and transferred fast. There’s a mechanism in the kettle to slow the rate. If you tip the kettle to try and force it to pour faster you will make a mess. This is almost a feature of the kettle function more-so than an oversight. It doesn’t hold enough water. This is true enough if you plan on making coffee for a group or for two people that like large cups of coffee. If your primary purpose for the kettle is for multiple people the bonavita or a different larger kettle is probably more worth it or maybe look for a non gooseneck kettle.Pours too slow. This gooseneck kettle has a restrictive valve and by design is meant for very slow pours. If you’re looking to get this for hot water for your tea bags id look else where. This is a pour over centered kettle. What I believe to be the best use case for this kettle is pour over coffee which requires a slow pour rate. Somewhere around 4-8g a second, quite slow, which means the coffee I make tends to take 4 minutes to make. I have used it for gongfu style tea as well as just general hot water use but you’ll end up being disappointed with its flow rate for anything other than slow, controlled, bursts of coffee.

Better than I'd expected?
Ok, so I'm a bit bored while waiting for new software to install:)So I ordered this fancy kettle primarily so I could get boiling water fast to add that little extra bit of sterilization to those few things I hand wash at the sink during this covid mess. That it also looks cool, is fast as heck (and far more energy efficient than microwaving water), and can also be used for coffee or tea...well, that's just a Plus:)Took a few weeks to ship - very understandable. It was shipped in it's store box - no outer box from amazon; a bit dissapointed in that, as I don't think it would withstand much abuse. But aside from a loose box seal and a few dents in the box, the product seemed to survive just fine. (Also understandable, but only under the circumstances, esp for such a premium product). It was a bit smaller than I expected, but ~ 1L is just fine, and smaller means less counter space, so that's fine. The pour is much slower than I'd expected, but it sure makes it easier to control (steaming hot water!) so that's good too. Not in that much of a hurry anyway.I saw some comments about the handle 'top knob' being awkward, but I find it the perfect (and safe) place to put my thumb when using. I have somewhat large hands, but not gigantic, either.Best feature is that it's amazingly fast to heat up - even faster when I use tap water instead of filtered, refrigerated water, of course. Big plus on that - I knew it would be faster than microwaving, but is QUITE a bit faster.Seems well made, and I really like the simple 'user interface', and comes with just about the right amount of instructions.Certainly an extravagance - if it dies out of warranty I probably won't buy another one - but in the meantime, I'm having a good old time adding yet another coffee brewing method to my list of options. So far it seems to take (end to end) a bit more time to make a 1L pot of coffee than the Technivorm, but b/c it requires more attention it also makes a slightly better brew. (Though the whole process is a bit too 'hipster' for me.)And, now it's also super simple to brew up a cup of decaf tea at the end of the day - definitely an added benefit. No regrets so far - at least until the CC bill comes next month:)(If for some reason it dies an early death, I'll update this review.)

Mine works great
I was nervous because some of the other reviews mentioned reliability problems, but mine's been working great. It heats up nice and quick and does a great job holding the temperature. I got the copper one, and it's quite pretty. It doesn't collect fingerprints or dirt at all, really. Been using it heavily for over a week now and it's still clean. It is balanced nicely, so it's very easy to control pour rate. It's actually balanced so well that it can be a little hard to tell when you're running out of water. It has a timer feature which is pretty convenient. You press and hold the temperature knob for a few seconds, it counts down from 3 (to give you a chance to pick up the kettle and get ready), and then starts the timer. When done with the timer, just push the knob and it'll stop. Push again to turn it off. Pretty easy.My only complaint is that I wish it were just a little bit bigger. The capacity is 900mL, but my iced coffee calls for 1L. Since you always lose some to evaporation and the grounds, you need to go a little higher, like to 1050mL. You can fill past the "max" line to get a little extra, but not that much extra. I make this work by pouring in about 300mL and then adding more hot water to the kettle -- by the time I need to add more water, it's heated up again -- but it's inconvenient. That's a bit of a corner case, though; for my normal hot coffee brews, 900mL is the most water I want anyway, and I expect this would be true for most people. Now, does this really deliver anything that you couldn't get for literally half as much money (or even less)? Probably not, to be honest. It's a luxury item for sure. But I'm happy with my purchase anyway.

Poor quality construction and customer support
**Update 10/2/18" Here I am updating this review again, and again, it's sadly for an issue with the kettle. This time it's stopped working outright. It will no longer heat water - I can hear the safety mechanism tripping anytime the kettle is put onto the base. And yet again, the customer support is non-responsive/lacking. It's been over 48 hours since I attempted to contact them, and still no acknowledgment/reply. Last time I wrote my review, it took 8 days to hear back from their support team. I was finally contacted by the founder assuring me they were hiring a full time customer rep to support faster communication/resolution of issues, but it appears that hasn't happened, and that the process has not improved. It's sad that a kettle this expensive is so troubled with issues preventing it from working. It's not even 6 months old, and is no longer functional. I really can't recommend this kettle to anyone given all the quality assurance issues and the abysmal customer support.**Update 5/23/18** After my initial review, I was eventually contacted by support (it took 8 days to receive a response to my email). They said they would replace the lid and that this was a known issue with some lids. The downside is, they asked for my address for the replacement, and my response went back into the overly long support queue. They notified me 6 days after my reply that they would ship a new lid out. The new lid has been working well so far, and the kettle itself works very well. Therefore, I'm raising my review from 1 to 3 stars - however, their customer support still leaves a lot to be desired. If you're going to sell a premium product that is priced above pretty much all competition, being a small company isn't an excuse to take 2 weeks to resolve a simple matter concerning a product defect.I really wanted to like this kettle as it heats up quickly, and does a good job at keeping the temperature steady once heated, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. On my fourth day of using it, the knob at the very top in the lid fell out of the lid. I can't see how it was really attached to the metal underneath there wasn't any glue remnants, but either way, I can't reattach it without trying to super glue it back down. I contacted Fellow's customer support 4 days ago when it happened, and I never heard back from them. Very disappointing for such an expensive kettle to have such poor build quality and customer service. I'd recommend looking at a cheaper kettle like the Bonavita which I've heard very good things about.

Review after years of use
We've been using the fellow stag kettle every day for more than two years now. And by every day, I mean at least 2-3 times a day. Our routine is a pour-over coffee in the morning for my wife, tea for me, and then my wife likes to drink hot water throughout the day.Overall the kettle has performed well and held up to a lot of use. I see many reviewers complaining about quality issues, and that wasn't a problem for us. Here are some things I like and things I think could be improved on.Likes:Form factor - this is probably the best-looking electric how water kettle on the market. We had just finished a kitchen remodel when we got this, and I didn't want an ugly kettle sitting out on the counter.Simplicity - I don't want a water kettle that I need an app to control. It feels lazy for the manufacturers not to think through all the uses and build the functionality directly into the kettle.Quality build - For our family, this kettle has held up well even with daily use.Dislikes:The lid - There are a couple of problems with the lid design. First off, it fit tight for the first year. Really tight. And since there is no other way to check the water level, you have to remove it regularly to check and make sure you have enough water for your cup of tea or whatever you're making. Secondly, the interior bottom surface of the lid is flat and collects the hot steam from the water. Combine this with the tight fit, and when you pull it off, it flings hot water all over the place. They could mitigate this by sloping the bottom of the lid so the moisture would drip off.The hold function - I expect the hold function to keep the temperature that I set. But the hold function holds the temperature of the water in the kettle. This means that if you add water to the kettle and set it back on the base, you have to adjust the temperature up or down and then back to its original setting to heat the water to your desired temperature. The spout - The spout interior diameter should be a little bigger. I expect the spout to help control the flow of water but not restrict it. Even after two years, I still end up tipping the kettle too far and spilling water out of the lid when trying to make tea because I'm not sure if it's going slow due to it being almost empty or just the spout restriction.Wish it had:Two temperature presets - I know there is a Bluetooth version with more functionality, but I don't need another app and don't want to pull out my phone just to control the water kettle. I would love to have two simple presets I can manage. Then I can have one for lower temperature needs like tea and hot water for sipping, and one for higher temperatures for pour-over and other coffee options. That would eliminate the need to spin the temperature dial 10 times to shift from one to the other.Overall I've been pretty happy with the kettle. But, Would I recommend it to a friend? Probably not.

Exceptional Precision and Sleek Design – Worth Every Penny!
I’ve been using the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro for a few years now, and it’s truly a game-changer for my daily coffee and tea routine. The temperature control is incredibly precise, which makes a noticeable difference in the flavor of both pour-over coffee and loose-leaf tea. The digital interface is intuitive and easy to use, and the ability to schedule a boil or hold a temperature has been surprisingly convenient. The gooseneck spout delivers a perfectly controlled pour, and the kettle feels well-balanced in hand. It heats quickly and quietly, and the design looks fantastic on my countertop — minimalist and modern without being flashy. If you’re serious about your brewing or just want a reliable, high-quality kettle that looks great and performs even better, this is the one. Highly recommend!

Mycket tystgående fungerar bra.
Ibland får man trycka av flera gånger för att få den avstängd men annars har jag ingenting att anmärka på.Den pryder sin plats i köket.Ångrar inte att jag köpte den.
