Are the arms of these glasses able to be unscrewed and detached?

Yup there is a tiny screw in each hinge. I had a go tightening the arms when I bought them, but they are tightened perfectly for me, very firm, and they have stayed firm for ages now, not gone floppy or wiggly at all.

How do you know what strenth to go for

I solved this by going into Boots and trying on their reading glasses to find the best strength for me. There are only six strengths +1 to +3.50 and if your eyes are normal I guess one of the six should do for you. Don't buy them from Boots, they cost £10 for a pair, Amazon sells two pairs for £4.98, a bargain and they have spring-loaded sides, the ones from Boots don't.

I received my order this week (2 pairs) they came in a box approx 150mm x 80mm x 15mm inside an A3 cardboard envelope which fitted through the letterbox no problem. Hooe this answers your question.
