Yes, you should be able to connect this to your Apple Airport Base Station to give you extra network attached storage.

The power rating of the adapter is 12V DC 3A. The drive can not be powered by USB alone. It should offer enough power to charge external drives while plugged into a 120v outlet with the included DC adapter.

Can i hook up 2 different windows machines and can they both (for back up) accessed? as in running 2 different backups at different times

+derkalakader. This unit plugs into a USB port on your computer. The two ports on the front of the unit gives you back that port you used, plus one extra. Very handy on a laptop that only has one or two to start with.But to use it on two different computers, you need to do it on the network or just unplug it from one and plug it into the other. Or others. 4TB is a lot of room. I have 4 different laptops backed up on one 500 GIG. drive. But then I have another one that is used for Karaoke, and it uses a 500Gig. drive for back up all by itself. So it depends on what you are backing up.

Can this be used for hd or 4k streaming as a nas when connected to a good router like asus 87u or 5300? has anybody tried playing 4k movies off it?

The read speeds on this drive are about 170MB/s The *WRITE* speeds are so painfully slow at 25MB/s If you were to attempt to fill the 8TiB version of this drive it may take you in excess of 80 hours. This drive is designed for a "Write one; Read many" workload. As long as your host device can have good networked speeds of 50Mb/s (50 Mega BITS) per stream you should be more then fine. The biggest impact on performance is if you need to encode/re-encode the video files. If you're simply streaming the raw video files you'll be fine.

Barracuda Pro CMR

As of mid 2020, the stel10000400 unit is a good buy for 10TB.Internally, diagnostics say it has a Barracuda Pro drive with 7 platters, and CMR based recording. This prevents those SMR issues you see with smaller units that use Archive/Barracuda drives. Though the fact of having so many spinning platters makes for hotter operation.The retail box came with power adapters for us/eu/uk/India, which is a nice touch.

Dont buy this , it has an archive hdd with smr tech and extremely slow write

Beware don't buy this hard drive, this is utter garbage hard drive, from the first the day it came I plugged it into my laptop it was making weird clicking and clattering noise even when it was not reading or writing and then comes surprise when i started copying data on this drive which was a nightmare i was merely getting 50mbps over usb3.0 and when i tried copying my 2tb data on it from my passport drive it was copying at 20mbps showing 3 days to complete and all the time it was clicking and clattering as if it was going to fail any minute, this all this is because SEAGATE HAS USED AN ARCHIVE HDD IN THIS BACKUP PLUS WHICH USES SMR TECHNOLOGY PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRIVE

The best 10 TB external drive in terms of performance & money as of June 2019.

Current prices is not worth per TB. I had purchased this during sale.If you have more than 8TB or close 8TB worth of data, It's always better to buy 10 TB so that you don't have to split your data in multiple drives. This is a standard product . I had good experience with Seagate HDD in the past. The read and write speeds is more than 100MBps when both the destination and source are using USB 3.0 ofcourse.
