Good Old Zippo
Way back in the mists of time (okay the late 1980s) I had a matte black Zippo lighter that was my best friend. Never let me down, even in the middle of a windy Festival field. Somewhere between getting married and birthing a sprog I lost the blinking thing. So, 26 years later and unable to kick the nicotine habit and getting increasingly sick of disposable lighters (not only do they have a habit of jamming the flint when still half full but they are plastic of a non-recyclable kind) I decided it was time to treat myself to a new Zippo. I did look at various designs and pricepoints but decided that I would go with a direct replacement for my old favourite and purchased a black matte lighter. I have to admit that the price did make me wonder if this would be a genuine Zippo, when I looked at them in a local shop even the basic versions (ie. no nice design or engraving) started at £30. I am relieved to report that it is very definitely a genuine product and the build quality that I remember is still there. The lighter units sits snuggly in it's case and there is no lid or hinge movement when closed. Just waiting until I've had it 6 months and the hinge relaxes a little so you can flick it open with one wrist flick and then flick it closed again - annoying little habit but one I look forward to resurrecting. Comes with the wick ready threaded and a flint in place in a cardboard presentation box with guarantee. The box is nicely styled and does make it look special. You do need to provide the lighter petrol yourself (somehow I still had half a tin so didn't need to purchase any) but it is readily available both online and at Tobacco kiosks and counters in Supermarkets. Filling it is easy, and easy to overfill too - I did and there was fuel on the case outer and inside the lid. Makes it fun those first couple of strikes as it will catch. However, despite having a little fire on the outside of the case it did not damage the finish which shows no sign of my clumsiness. In these days of Climate Change small changes can make a difference. So, if you are still a traditional cigarette or cigar smoker or like the Great Outdoors and usually carry a disposable plastic lighter one easy change is going to a sturdy, true refillable lighter (lets face it those plastic things have a butane refill port but who bothers to try?). A tried and tested brand that is functional but somehow manages to remain stylish and will last you for your lifetime (if you are careful and don't lose it) has to be better than adding to landfill.

Reliable quality of a zippo.
Purchased as a gift fro my brother to add to his cigar lighting arsenal. Reliable Zippo quality manufacturing providing an easy to use and consistent fast lighting flame. Insert is wel fitted as you would expect from zippo and is easy to fill/replace flint if required. I purchased him the Brass version so this is no doubt a sturdy and durable finish that will keep its smooth and classy look. As I said it’s easily refillable with lighter fluid and functions flawlessly

Better than your average Zippo
I've had mine now for six months. Not long but, as a virtual chain-smoker, it's had a fair ammount of use and abuse. Took a week to arrive, which was faster than the delivery estimate so no complaints about service. It arrived in good dondition and both the lighter and packaging were in perfect condition. The finish looks better in the flesh than the photos indicate. Seen from an oblique angle, the brushed sides appear almost black, so it's name is no misnomer. What separates this from other Zippos is the four hinge lid bracket, as opposed to the standard five. This construction makes for a greater sense of robustness than the five-hinged varients. Friends who bought current model Zippos at around the same time as I have lighters which already have a decidedly sloppy feel when opening them. Mine still feels as firm as the day it arrived and has a pleasing snap on closing. Strangely, it also feels nicer to hold than its modern counterparts due to its more rounded casing. The only downsides are that you need to use Zippo flints, as the more commonly available types (Swan, etc) are too long which can be a pain. Stock up on Zippo flints to avoid severe irritation... The second concerns the brushed finish. If you walk around with it in a pocket along with coins or the like, the finish (very) quickly becomes scratched. Personally, I rather like it. Adds to the character. Hors d' combat and all that. If you want to keep yours pristine however, this has to be considered. I've owned several Zippos over the years and this is certainly the best. Oh, and the hinge makes for a good conversation starter with other weed addicts. If you're after a Zippo, this is the one to have. I just wish they'd make a version with their heavy duty brass casing...

Authentic zippo it does the job
I love this lighter. The design is exactly what i wanted. The quality and feel is great it is easy to use and set up and it is windproof. I’m able to light a few cigars after filling it once so i’m quite happy with the gad capacity. It does struggle in very windy conditions however. Losing a star only as the inside of the case looks like it has a poor finish. It is covered by the insert more of the time though. Hope you found my review helpful.

brilliant lighter
really really brilliant zippo. i like the patina mine has developed over the last few months. the polished parts are actually not that shiny anymore, which is making me wish (just a little though) that i'd bought the one that was shiny all over. but the brushed part is getting a different kind of patina too, so that's still quite good. and, obviously, if i really wanted, i could go over this with brasso. if i wanted it to be shiny again, or anything like that. i happen to be a fan of patinas myself though. of course, you need to refuel this every 1-3 weeks (depending on your use and the temperature it's kept in), but that's just an inherent part of the way these lighters work. it's a perfectly acceptable tradeoff to me, though, to get a lighter that lights on the first strike every time and doesn't go out until i *want* it out. that's my favourite thing about naphtha lighters, you don't have to hold down a wee button to keep it going. you just close it with a satisfying click when you're done. it's also a really nice change of pace from bics and clippers to be able to light up when it's raining a little, and when it's windy. living near the river, it's windy a lot! one last thing i want to say... if you've used any non-zippo brand lighters with a similar design, and were put off naphtha lighters by your experience with those.... give this a try. for a long time i thought this style of lighter was garbage because i had a "star lighter". that lighter needed 6-8 strokes on the wheel to light at all, the flame wasn't tall, and it wasn't really wind resistant. star lighters sold it as having all the benefits of a zippo at less price... but that's just plain false. not to mention, the click sound is tinny and hollow with my star lighter. plus, zippo lighters have a LIFETIME warranty. a real, genuine one, like they used to do them. proper, no questions asked, if it's broken, they'll fix it. no receipt or proof of purchase needed – if it's a genuine zippo, they'll fix it. if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. even if it was accidental damage. that means this could be the last lighter you ever need to buy. now doesn't that seem worth the extra upfront cost? you'll be getting a lighter that will literally last you your whole life, and probably your children too.

Impeccable
