Awesome if you use ambient light screen
I really love this projector. It took some adjusting of colors and brightness. I found a good scene that was bright and showed a sky in the background and adjusted until i had good color and brightness untill the whites were not washed out and i could see the clouds properly. Definitely took some tweaking. But the picture is great. In bright mode i dont hear the fan and its only about 12 feet from my couch. I cant stress this enough but use an ambient light reflecting screen. Its important. The screen is meant for only receiving light from below. So it shows the projector light but doesnt get washed out by the room lights. I have three large windows in this room and watch during the day with lights on and blinds open and can see the picture just fine. Of course it washes out a tad. But its very watchable. In the pictures added i show no lights on and my recessed lights on full. The color washes a tad but it looks great. If you take the time to adjust color, brightness, contrast and other settings to make it look right. You will not be disappointed. I am using a 100 inch screen and the projector only sits about a foot from the wall. I also use an apple tv for all my apps. I don't think the out of the box apps and connectivity is all that great. To get the best performance and apps, use a different streaming device. Fire tv or something. I also use a bose sound system. I have never used the speaker built in. If you plan on using a projector, you should use a receiver and external speakers and streaming device. Its going to give you the best sound and use of any apps you might want. The color and brightness are the best i have seen for the price sub 4k video quality of any projector i havr ever had. And i have had many. My old epson was very close, but was a ceiling mounted projector and i hate casting shadows on the screen. Adjustment to the screen is very usable. You have lots of options to get the picture correct and you can use screen shift if you need to use the projector at an angle. I do plan on upgrading to a 4k if i can find something for the right price that has this level of brightness. Dont hesitate to buy this projector. If all else fails, you have prime return. I hope this review helps you.

I love being able to move a 100 inch TV screen in the trunk of a small car.
It’s true HD 1080P , setup was easy. Everything works, plays blu-rays in great detail, even streaming services look great, has an aux jack out for sound to a surround system if your crazy audio specific about your sound, otherwise it has an onboard speaker. Overall a great investment. Even plays 3D movies with a pair of DLP link Glasses, just make sure you have a 3D Blu ray media and a blu ray player that can play 3D. did not have the white around the LCD , that some complain about, where your picture on the wall ends and there would be slivers if light escaping around from how the LCD screen was installed in front of the lamp. I’ve used it with a Mac, a PC, Apple TV, Google Chromcast, it just works. Do not expect a 4K picture from a 1080p device, cause 4K is like 4 1080p devices stacked around each other. You can use a silver screen to improve screen image, but a smooth regular white wall looks amazing too! I can have lights on in the room and it not affect the image, stays bright and crisp. But once you turn the lights off, the images get deeper and brighter. If your looking for a large screen, but don’t want a Large TV, than I would totally suggest this.

Nice projector but you can do better.
This unit gives a nice sharp picture, however the colors seem just a little off and no amount of adjustment seems to fix this. The brightness is wonderful with lights on and you can see the image clearly. The images have a slight greenish hue sometimes and I keep it in game or cinema mode. there is no focus adjustment but it comes out of the box pretty well calibrated. The unit is heavy so make sure you have a sturdy stand for it to sit on. I would consider getting a laser projector if you want better color accuracy and longer bulb life. All in all it's not bad for one of the cheaper ultra short throws available right now. I will likely return it to get something with better color accuracy but I'm picky.

Excellent!
This is my second projector upgrade. I moved to my new house and was unable to set up a normal ceiling mounted projector. So I started checking out the ultra short throw units. I went with this Optoma 1080 ultra short throw unit unit. I have it paired with a Silver Ticket 92” screen. I use this as our main do all TV in a well lit family room. Video quality It is OK and acceptable with some daylight. I can either close my blackout curtains or wait till the sun starts setting and the picture quality is very , very good. We mainly stream most of our digital content on a 4K Amazon FireStick paired to a Sony STR home theatre amplifier. we regularly have Optoma running for 3 to 5 hours straight. I have not had any issues with this unit in 6 months of use. Noise is not much of a issue but watch out for heat. One of my kids left a Nerf toy sitting on the left side heat exhaust port and that toy was burning hot to touch. Overall, I’m way super happy with this Optoma ultra short throw unit. It also has a lot of customization options as well.

Was Loving It, but now Loving the Extended Warranty
Update2 April 6, 2023 - Not soundbar ready. Love the picture still. However, I had been using my old Altec speakers with the 3.5mm jack. Worked great. However, crack in the wire somewhere lead to unbearable static. Bought a soundbar w/o doing enough research to know that they don't seem to use 3.5mm jacks anymore! Very redfaced now. Guess I'll be going on CL to see what I can find as replacement. :) Or buying a splitter as Optoma CS has recommended. Raising a star since CS was pretty good this time. Update1 April 6, 2023 - Love the picture still. However, had to replace the bulb a few months back. I don't blame Optoma for that as "someone" in this household falls asleep in front of it nearly every night. I believe it has an auto turn-off, but haven't figured that out. Figuring out how to replace the bulb was not easy! Update Sept. 18, 2022 - Dropped down to two stars because the Optoma stopped recognizing the HDMI ports, so no more streaming! We tried with both our Roku and our Fire sticks, but while they would work on our displays, there was no output through the Optoma. We would be totally screwed if I had not also bought the 3yr extended warranty from Asurion. It was a bit of a runaround with them at first too, but eventually they provided a shipping label and took it under examination. It took them 3 weeks or so, but they fixed it! The projector once more is able to stream from either of the HDMI ports. Hurrah for Asurion! However, for a device that is largely solid state and software it's pretty unacceptable that in addition to the trouble with the remote, that the device stopped recognizing that devices were in either of the HDMI ports. Now I feel like we're living on borrowed time and once the extended warranty ends, we'll be screwed. BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! UPDATE July 28, 2022 - dropped a star based on the Customer Service snippiness. UPDATE Jan. 22, 2022 - I'm still LOVING IT! Keep lens cover dusted off every so often. UPDATE Nov. 2, 2021 - Remote "on" and "off" buttons began to stop working or work only after numerous presses. Obviously, we changed the batteries, but this problem has persisted. Finally ordered a replacement remote. Hoping this is just a one-off issue. Also, the LED lights on the remote are painfully bright in a dark room. Haven't found a way to adjust their brightness yet. Dropped it a star, but overall, I'm still LOVING IT! UPDATE Feb. 5, 2021 - We continue to project directly on our bare wall and have placed the projector ~16.75" above floor and ~15.5" from wall (measuring from wall to front of projector) and we have a HUGE image (110"+) with fine resolution at 1080p! ORIGINAL REVIEW - Have been looking at this for a while as wife wanted a projector rather than a regular TV. Refurbished ones are sometimes available for under $900. Plasma TV finally died and after looking at laser UST at double the price, we went with the Optoma that still uses a lamp. Wife watches way more than 4hrs/day + falls asleep with TV on, so we figure we'll not get 10yrs from the lamp. If we get only a year, I'll know the lamp-life claims are a lie (so many of these bulb claims are). Meantime, everything else is grand. Projecting on just the wall (not even a white wall) the image is bright and defined. At about 16" from the wall we have a 62" diagonal image. We're looking at ways to place about 25" from the wall so we can have a much larger image. There's a projector website that tells you how far to place the projector to obtain the image size you want. For 100" it's still over 2 feet from the wall despite this being UST. We'll figure that out. I'll update in a year with my thoughts then. Oh, purchased that third-party warranty for $60, just in case.

Might Be The Best UST In Price Range!
I recently purchased a Polaroid UST. Not having a UST before, I thought the picture was decent enough; however thankfully, the Polaroid started going haywire within a month. Long story, but I bounced between a refund and a replacement. I chose the refund and took a chance on the Optoma. In short, I cant believe my eyes! The Polaroid was essentially at the same price point and the picture isnt even comparable-far superior. Also, USTs work best on fixed framed screens. I have a motorized screen (not compatible for USTs) and the screen waves with the Polaroid have been significantly reduced- to a point youd have to be a real audio visual snob to complain. My wife agrees! Its not just me: The Optoma unit is amazing! If a UST is on your wish list and youre not certain what you want to buy in the $1200 price range, Id recommend this unit 7 days of the week. My only complaint is the audio option. I had to buy a separate unit to manage the audio signal for my Roku. Im a cord cutter so getting sling is essential. The speaker on the unit isnt anything special. Overall, its awesome!!!!

Picture is awesome!
Ended up getting this for a home theater project for a 100" screen. My dad was adamant about getting a 4k projector and we decided if this one wasn't enough we could return it. The picture looks AMAZING. Do not be turned off by 1080p resolution. It is different than a 1080p TV. I have a TV that's half the size at 1080p and the picture is so much worse, the image on this does not look "low res" in any way. Colors are great, this is the brightest one we could find for our purpose. My one complaint is that the setup is not super intuitive - you can't use the setup "grid" function while you're resizing the picture (or at least I couldn't figure out how). So it took a little while to get the picture set up. After we did though, hoo boy. We've been having whole family movie nights at least once or twice a week now and it's so much fun. Fan is quiet and it turns on quickly enough, but if you haven't used a projector before it does take a minute to turn on so that's normal. It sits super close to the screen so any minute adjustments to the projector affect the image a lot so make sure you can get it dialed in the exact location it needs to be in.

Good 1080p UST that mostly just works
First, I'd like to point out that before ordering the Gt5600, I had tried out the CinemaX P1 4k UST. The CinemaX had much better picture quality (being 4k), better color and was way brighter. Though I returned the CinemaX because it has a lot of problems with input lag on the laser unit, which is pretty much not a thing on bulb projectors. Not only did the lag affect input for gaming, but also audio synchronization between the built-in speaker and external receiver/speakers on that 4k unit. The GT5600 has very low input lag, I just plug my PS4 into my receiver then to the projector and don't notice any issues. It just works and that's important. There is a little useless speaker built in which I just mute - there is no reason to build a speaker into a projector when most people buying a projector should have a proper surround sound system already. The unit is bright enough to view content in the day time, though its definitely not great in day time and hard to see dark scenes with low contrast. I'm very happy compared to my previous HD20 projector which was not even usable in the day. There are a few issues I'd like to mention as to why I docked a star. First, for all UST projectors it seems, you will need to invest in a pro screen because projecting onto a wall results in wavy/distorted image - this problem is really visible with USTs, where as the previous long throw projector had no such issues. Its not something wrong with the unit, but it should be noted as a requirement. Second, there is infrequent 'flashes' from the bulb when watching in Eco mode. I researched this and many others also experience the same thing with this unit. Sources say to run it on bright mode for a few months to fix it, which is sad because the fan is loud in bright mode. The fan is very quiet and not noticeable in eco mode.

Great UST projector for the money!!!
Excellent picture quality! I was a little skeptical when doing research, as I have a fairly bright room and was not going to be able to install a long throw projector. After going down the rabbit hole of looking for the best projector within my budget, I came across the GT5600. It met all my needs as a UST and I am thorougly impressed. The only only critique I have with picture is that the blacks tend to blend together but this is mainly due to light in my room during the day. At night it looks great! All in all a great projector! Pros: Super easy to set up - HDMI from receiver directly to projector and you are up and running Picture quality Cons: Runs hot and is loud in Bright mode but Eco mode works fine

Nice, very nice
Easy set up, great picture quality even projected on a dark beige wall, and very quiet. The sound out of the projector itself is tinny, so use it with some bluetooth speaker or soundbar. Update: There was a problem with the unit; one of the cooling fans never turned off. It took some work, but Optoma in the end was very good about getting it fixed. The projector is now back, and working perfectly!

Picture affected by sun
The product is used for watching tv. The reviews stated the sun would not affect the picture however it does somewhat. It’s not terrible but saying the sun does not affect the picture is misleading.

Flawless, easy to set up, great picture quality, will save to buy another one for my mother, connects easily to Apple TV, Android, and cable box, have a Bose portable speaker connected, sounds great! Only draw back only 2 HDMI ports.
