The Book of Wisdoms: Kitab Al-Hikam, a Collection of Sufi Aphorisms

An incredibly fascinating book for those who seek to open their mind. Just a few pages in can change your perspective on certain subject matters. A great read for those on a religious journey. Well written and intensely thought provoking.

Timeless wisdom from one of the luminaries of the Islamic tradition - this is an excellent work on Islamic Spirituality.

Excellent read. I recommend it to all who are on a path searching for knowledge.

It is not obvious from the product description that this book includes the complete Danner translation of the Kitab al-Hikam together with the Arabic originals. This may be the only edition of that translation with accompanying Arabic, fully vowelled, and that alone merits the price of the book. The aphorisms appear out of order, grouped thematically. The accompanying commentary is by an Indian shaykh of the late 19th/early 20th century whose lineage, authenticity and normativity cannot really be judged based solely on information in the rather fawning but not entirely uninformative introduction. My own best judgment suggests that he's the real deal, so you can buy this book without concern that it's some kind of goofy-sufi nonsense, but instead speaks to the authentic tradition of Islamic Sufism.

Beautiful collection of some of the most illuminating sayings followed by further enlightening commentary. Wonderful book. Quickly has become one of my favourite books of its kind in my library.
