Instant pixie dust. Perfect for vaping.
I'm going to start off by saying, if you smoke tobacco, don't get this. If you use a pipe, or papers, avoid this entirely. It looks like a cute, little, green mutant kitten, but it's a wildcat on whatever you put into it. You don't get flakes. You get powder. And that's exactly why I bought it, hence the full Monty of stars. I use weed for arthritic pain relief, and have done so for years (note: Always legally, since my state allows for medical marijuana use). But smoking it was harsh and edibles are both unpredictable and slow. So I did some research (it's not like I had a lot of stoner friends to consult with) and found that dry herb vaping is the way to go for folks like me who want faster and more predictable results than edibles, without the harshness of using a pipe (not to mention the cleaning!) I further discovered that simply using an herb grinder isn't really sufficient. The herb must be reduced to as fine of a powder as is possible. So I got one of those adjustable, manual coffee grinders and worked on my pecs for hours to get a tiny amount down to a decent powder consistency for a good dose or two. Let's just say that it took a lot of work for very slow reward. So I finally decided to see what they had in electrics that wouldn't help my pecs, but would keep me from needing MORE weed (manual grinders + Arthritis = stupid idea). After much searching, I found a few somewhat negative reviews of this little gem about how it had a learning curve to get the tobacco from whole leaf to smokable size without turning it all into pixie dust. I wanted the pixie dust, and while I have a vertical learning curve, I wasn't interested in getting engineering degrees to deal with another electronic device. Being able to get the dust without the effort sounded just 'fine' to me. I got it today, cleaned it, plugged it in and tossed in my latest purchase from the local dispensary - all of it instead of bits that went into the manual grinder first before going into the coffee grinder - and pressed the "button". Okay, yeah, it's a bit of a problem pressing the button. The stem could stand to be a BIT longer to get into the hole into which it fits, but fiddling with it for a second or less gets it turned on. It's sort of positional. And less than ten seconds later, my entire purchase was pixie dust, perfect for a dry herb vaporizer (after it dries out - what seems dried on the outside often isn't so dried inside). It would have literally taken me hours to do that by grinding to size in a 2-step process that unfavorably messed with my pain thresholds. Clean-up was simple (a brush and a paper towel) and I'm ready for the next batch. So, not so good for tobacco, not so good for food herbs (unless you want exceptionally fine ground herbs - which this will do nicely). Just pixie dust from whatever pixie you tossed in there be it for medicinal or gustatory purposes. If that's what you're looking for, stop looking and buy this. If you're looking for a way to RYO, keep looking, unless you like inhaling pixie dust.

Great Little Tobacco Shredder
Dislikes: none Likes: Small footprint, easy to use, easy to clean. I had never used a tobacco shredder before, never needed one for my RYO cigarette machines until I bought a newer unit, a Powermatic III+ and it is quite finicky on how the tobacco is cut. So I purchased this little gem and it has done the job excellently. I just had to learn the right technique to get the proper cut, first time I shredded the tobacco for my machine, I jammed it up because I ran the cuter for too long and the tobacco was too short{fine}, so it didn't work out well at all, but that was my fault, not the shredders. Once I figured out the technique to get the right consistency for the machine, making my RYO cigarettes with my Powermatic III+ was a lot easier, no more jams and no more hopper errors that I was constantly having with my tobacco before getting this little gem of a tobacco cutter. Definitely worth every bit of money I spent on it. All RYO cigarette makers should have one of these in their collection of RYO cigarettes arsenal of equipment for making their RYO cigarettes. One of the best devices I ever purchased! Highly recommend to anyone that is a RYO cigarette maker, this device will allow you to conserve on your tobacco and get more cigarettes from your tobacco stash. As far as I'm concerned, this is definitely a 5-Star device, and a must-have for any RYO aficionado!

Top loader shredder
This shredder is very fast! Quick little bursts and check tobacco or spice and make sure you don't over do it. In 10 to 15 seconds you could turn tobacco to almost a powder. So it's strong, quick and easy to use.

an absolute no brainer easy smart decision
i use this for bud. i like my bud ground very fine for vaporizing. this shreds the bud into fine grind that is perfect for vaping. it is powerful and has no issues powering through the bud (stems and all). for the price, it is a steal (compared to other bud grinders). the compartment is large and can handle a large amount at the same time. sorry, i didn't measure it exactly. best guess, you can easily fit 3/4 of an ounce and possible a full ounce. the best part, the motor can handle it with ease. from what i read, it is basically a repurposed coffee grinder. however, it is absolutely perfect for vape style bud grinding. it is one of the cheapest, yet still the best option around (and i have tried a bunch). i looked at this option early, but originally went elsewhere. it was a mistake. i should have chose this one before all the others. i have been using it regularly for about a month and i am pleasantly surprised how well this works for my needs.

... get my Powermatic RYO electric roller machine to work better with the pipe tobacco I currently use
The shredder was the answer to get my Powermatic RYO electric roller machine to work better with the pipe tobacco I currently use. After trying to use 2 small food processors with mixed results I ordered this and am glad I did. Cigarettes now roll faster without jamming or tearing the tubes due to tobacco with long cuts. Plus I roll more cig's without the constant headache of those problems. Although I was a bit hesitant about the size of the shredder I found it processes tobacco very quickly. I can shred a pound (16oz) bag of tobacco after experimenting in about 15 minutes. WARNING: Do not insert fingers or anything else with the shredder plugged in. HINTS FOR USE: Do not pack in your tobacco. Just fill it loosely to the top of the hopper. Depending on your tobacco brands cut length some experimenting will be required. Don't hold the power button down too long or you will wind up with dust-it works that fast! Expect to be messy at first but with a little practice you will become a Pro! You won't be disappointed. I find that by shaking it like making a Martini and pulsing the power on/off 3-5 times gives the best results. PRO'S: Fast, dependable and not too loud. CON"S: Will over grind if used if power button is held too long or pulsed too many times. Cord is a little bit short for my liking. 2nd picture gives you an idea of it's size. 4th pic shows hopper filled before shredding. 5th pic after shredding. Last pic shows tobacco on the right before shredding and the left after shredding. Hope you enjoyed this review!

Works better than anything Iโve tried and Iโve tried a lot!!
I first purchased this 10+ years ago when my fingers were amputated, two reattached and fused at the DIP and PIP joints leaving them stiff with restricted movement for life. Being casted for three months for each operation, resulting in a combined 2 years 3 months. This device paired with a cone filling tray literally helped save me. The size allows me to shred approximately 3-4 grams at a time. Keep it clean if you want it to last. I did, mine lasted 10 years. Great purchase.

Very disappointed with the quality
I have purchased three of these. I use these for chopping pipe tobacco for my cigarette machine. The first unit lasted quite a while and I was very happy with it until it suddenly stopped working. I place an order for a replacement not realizing the shipping time was longer than I wanted. I found another seller that could deliver sooner and placed the order for my third unit. I kept order #2 on the shelf as a backup should order #3 fail. Well, order #3 did indeed fail with great style. Evidently there was an internal short that caused the lower housing to light up with an internal electrical arcing show. I wrote it off as a bad unit and pulled order #2 off the shelf. This unit barely lasted a week and now it too has stopped working. I tried to disassemble to see if I could repair it since the motor obviously wasn't getting any power. The way this thing is assembled makes it impossible to disassembly due to the blade fastener seeming to be a permanent installation. I enjoyed each of these while they lasted, but with the 2 recent failures I don't believe I will be purchasing a 4th unit.
