Not sure what you mean by genuine. The pieces are nice and thick and sit flat on the floor. Each dinosaur is a separate piece. My 1 1/2 year old took a little while to be able to do it by himself, but at over 3 he can. Edge is irregular shape.

Q: I have been told these are excellent floor puzzles with one piece elements. Is there a parent's guide to play?

No parents guide. But some pieces are in the shape of the animals. Very easy for young kids to put together.

Q: How many pieces does this puzzle have? One review said only 8 pieces? Is this too easy for a 4.5 year old?
