Worked first time and now I have Modbus integration to home assistant! Yay!
I bought this to set up Modbus integration from my Fox ESS Solar inverter/batteries to Home Assistant. On the Modbus integration page on Home Assistant, it said that they do not recommend this device as it had some issues, but from other people's recommendations and the reviews here, I thought I would give this a go. I specifically needed one that was not on DIN rails or powered by strange methods - I needed one that had its own power source via mains outlet. This fit the bill perfectly. I also needed something with WiFi as although I could run ethernet to the device, this would mean extensive cabling running through the house, which I didn't want. This device connected to the WiFi with ease and was easy to set up to get the connection running. When setting this up for Modbus integration to Fox ESS systems, the creator of the integration has created a very in depth set up instruction and how to guide to get everything set up - I followed this exactly and it worked perfectly. I now have full integration in to Home Assistant and there's no problems with it whatsoever!

Great for RS485 from Wi-Fi, not great to set up
I use this for Philips Dynalite programming, I wifi link to is and it sends RS485 over a virtual comport. This is a little tricky to do but I had a guide.... anyone else requires it let me know. Once set up is great, works over long distances and is almost intrferance free!!!

Seemed to work ok
Does not support โbreakโ. But worked ok for us

Did exactly what I needed
Used to connect a Fox Ess solar inverter to home assistant via Wi-Fi for data monitoring. Working without any problems for the last week and provides a much better experience than the inverters app

Woefully underpowered
After trying different settings and network arrangements over the past 3 days, I've realised the issue is with the unit(s) processing power. My use case: Connect a Solis inverter to meter clamp. The inverter is 30M away from the meter and so RS485 over Ethernet is required. The issues: While it connects from time to time the devices slow down and the inverter loses connection with the meter. This sometimes self recovers, other times I have to manually reboot the devices. Things I've tried: WiFi Ethernet Isolated VLAN to remove other network traffic. UDP TCP Transparent Modbus => Modbus TCP You can see the device is struggling as when you ping you can see the response times increase dramatically (ten's of millis). All of these things failed. Sending back, not worth the money.

Fantastic
I used this to get information out of my Fox-Ess solar inverter for real time monitoring with HomeAssistant. Easy to do, good product.

Great product
Not fully fitted and working yet but, formatted all the setting I needed to with ease, just waiting for my sparky to connect to my Inverter.

Funziona bene
I video li trovate sul mio canale YouTube OFF GRID INSIEME ๐โบ๏ธ๐

Stabile Verbindung
Sehr guter Konverter mit stabiler Verbindung zum WLAN. Arbeitet bei mir im Keller unter schwierigen Empfangbedingungen seit mehr als einem Jahr ohne irgendwelche Probleme.

Function packed.
I am using these as a wireless bridge from a main control panel to a rotating drum. The transceiver on the drum is powered by a rechargeable battery. This allows me to transmit temperature wirelessly from a temperature card that communicates ModbusTCP via the RJ45 port. I have configured 2 of these W610 to work in a pair, 1 is set for AP and the other as STA. This provided a long sought for solution for a wireless bridge for ModbusTCP that is stable, and done with consumer grade hardware. Delighted with the results. This review does not include all the details of the use case. Later, 7/16/24 I have read some reviews that are 1 star. Admittedly, some in depth knowledge is required to explore all the capabilities of these W610. Our team has created a Python script that can set the parameters/configuration to our needs via the Serial port. If you can't find the user manual, try this link: https://www.pusr.com/uploads/20240614/44573feb206c5d3ac878a7113c7495a8.pdf We have successfully been using these for 1: A wireless bridge for I/O modules communicating ModbusTCP 2:Remote slave panels with analog and digital signals controlled wirelessly 3: Ethernet to RS485 convertor to communicate/convert ModbusTCP to ModbusRTU We have purchased 20 units already, so far the performance after correct configuration for the application has been stable, predictable, repeatable. The manual may be challenging to understand since it most likely was translated from Chinese, but a careful study of the pictoral illustrations can help. A pair of these configured as AP and STA to our specs allowed us to use a PLC to send frequency and run commands to a VFD. The PLC connects to the AP via Ethernet cable. The VFD connects to the STA via 2 wire RS485. The PLC sends ModbusTCP commands and the USR-W610 STA unit converts the signal to ModbusRTU. The setup as Wireless has an observable lag/latency while the Ethernet wired setup has no observable lag. IMO these are worth the time/learning curve if you plan to use multiple units. Admittedly the details of configuration are numerous enough that much may be forgotten durng irregular use and configuration. The only thing we would caution against is using these for any internet traffic, of which the W610 is highly capable. Most of these devices require in depth knowledge on both hardware and software levels to secure properly against data breaches, embedded spying, ransomware, and other such digital atrocities. You have been warned.
