Decent
This Hartz UltraGuard flea and tick collar works decently as a basic preventative option. Itโs easy to put on, adjustable for growing kittens or adult cats, and claims 7 months of protection, which is convenient. I noticed it did help reduce fleas on my cat during a mild infestation. However, itโs not nearly as effective as topical treatments or higher-end collars. It took a couple of weeks to really see results, and it didnโt completely eliminate the problem. The smell is quite strong at first (though it does fade), and I was a bit concerned about the chemical content. Itโs an affordable choice for light flea pressure or as a backup, but for serious infestations or sensitive cats, Iโd look for something stronger. Overall, itโs an okay budget collar that gets partial results.

Flea collar
Well I don't know whether this will work on this crazy cat. She is a house cat but will scream until you let her out. So now she has fleas because she goes out. I had to point to the collar and then to her to make crazy cat know this is for you. She has it on for 2 weeks and hasn't lost it so will see how it works. Rolling around in dirt doesn't help much.

Reliable and long lasting
Iโve been using the Hartz UltraGuard Purple Collar as an extra layer of defense against fleas and ticks, and it performs great! The collar is lightweight, durable, and easy to fitโjust slip it around the neck, buckle it securely, and cut off the excess length. โIt starts working quickly to repel and kill both fleas and ticks, making it ideal for dogs that spend time playing outside in tall grass or wooded areas. The purple color is a fun touch that looks great, and the collar stays secure without catching on fur or irritating the skin. Great affordable option for continuous, hassle-free pest prevention!

Works as expected
A few things to address when assessing this product and the other reviews: 1) If you do some research on the internet, you will realize that different flea medications work better in different areas. Advantage did not work for us. Front line does. Just because this product may not work for your pet doesn't mean it's faulty or expired. 2) If your pet already has fleas, this product takes at least three applications before it will start to work effectively. Our cat did have fleas and it took three applications. Fleas are no joke and always take time to get under control. Just because they don't disappear overnight doesn't mean it is faulty or expired. 3) Fleas can become immune. Doesn't mean the product is faulty or expired. 4) It is toxic, obviously. There is a risk your pet could have a serious adverse reaction. It is a pesticide for goodness sake. You are taking a chance and weighing your options. It doesn't make you a terrible person if you have circumstances where your pet having fleas would be terrible - like if you have a newborn or an infant and your pet is hellbent on going outside anyway. So there's all that. With that being said, frontline is the only medication that works for us. We only use it half of the year and start it early enough to be effective by peak flea months, though the product recommends year round applications.

Does not work.
I purchased this Ultra Guard flea and tick collar for my 4-month-old kitten because I wanted an easy and affordable way to protect her from fleas and ticks. Unfortunately, this product did NOT work for us at all. I put the collar on my kitten and followed the directions, expecting that after wearing it consistently she would be protected from fleas. Unfortunately, two weeks later, she STILL had fleas. I was extremely disappointed because the entire reason I purchased this collar was to get rid of the flea problem and prevent it from continuing. Instead, I was still finding fleas on my kitten after she had been wearing the collar for two full weeks. I gave the product a fair chance and did not expect overnight results, but I absolutely expected to see some improvement after two weeks. Unfortunately, that was not the case for us. Having a kitten with fleas is stressful enough, and dealing with them when you think youโve already purchased something to prevent them is even more frustrating. I didnโt want to keep trying different over-the-counter products and risk wasting more money while my kitten continued dealing with fleas. At that point, I contacted my veterinarian and ended up having to get a prescription flea treatment from the vetโs office. That was an additional expense that I was hoping to avoid by purchasing this collar in the first place. I understand that flea products can work differently depending on the animal and the severity of the infestation, and I realize no product will necessarily work for every single cat. However, based on my personal experience, this collar did absolutely nothing to solve my kittenโs flea problem. After two weeks of wearing it, she still had fleas, and I ultimately had to go to the veterinarian for a prescription treatment. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product based on my experience. I purchased it because I wanted effective flea and tick protection for my kitten, but it simply did not work for her. For us, this was a complete waste of money and ended up costing even more because I had to purchase a prescription treatment afterward. One star from me. I would not purchase this again.

The collar works!
Iโm very surprised at the low cost being that so many on the market are so high priced but I got 2 for my cats and these things really work! My kitten and full grown cat havenโt had any issues wearing them beyond the fleas are slowly going away!

Didnโt last 7 months
I purchased these in May and put them on my 7-pound and 12-pound cats. Itโs late August and my 12-pound cat just had the worst case of fleas ever. My other cat, who spends much more time outside, has no fleas. So, as far as lasting 7 months, Iโd say that is debatable. Maybe the collar is intended for use on smaller cats? I will say that when I first put the collars on both cats, the fleas were gone almost immediately and I was impressed. I did reorder these for use on my small cat, but Iโm going to change collars every 3 months to be on the safe side. Iโm switching to the neck drops specifically for larger cats for my other cat and see how that goes.

Work perfect, super easy to put on and effective. Stays on fine. Love the color. Adjustable fit is so convenient. Smell is strong at first but it fades a bit over time , worth it though.

Seems to work well.
Ensure you clean your cat of all fleas before you put the collar on. If the cat is heavy flea infested already its not expected to be as effective. The only issue I feel is a strong fragrance which is good for me but I am not sure how the cat is dealing with it.
