Great recommendations however if you use it a lot like I did some of the pages might start to fall out. This happened to me.

Very helpful, needs a bit more detail for toddlers
My husband bought me this book before we emigrated to the US. We lived in midtown Manhattan for a month before finding a permanent home. This book was my bible for exploring and keeping my 18month old happy!Pros: despite having visited with our son a year earlier, we hadn't realized just how anti kids NYC is. This book was invaluable in finding places not only we could do fun stuff but also places he would be welcome. Broken down by area it lists places to eat and have fun with children. The playground listings were especially helpful - all the grass in the midtown parks was "resting" (fenced off with signs saying don't walk on) when we arrived so we were desperate to find places he could run around. I also love how this is not really aimed at tourists so it recommends cool, local, not famous, not chain places to eat. I still use this every couple of weeks when we come into the city.Cons: it doesn't differentiate recommendations for older kids and toddlers very well. My biggest pet peeve is that in a city that seems to have an allergy to high chairs it doesn't flag if somewhere has/hasn't got one even if it allows or welcomes children. Coming from the U.K. Where everywhere has a plethora of IKEA highchairs this drives me insane. I've had to buy a travel booster chair as I can't handle to hassle of having to ask for one or plan around one anymore. This book also doesn't make clear which activities are no nos for strollers (my son is 2, 40lbs and a runner, we can't go anywhere without the stroller!). I think if they had a simple key with logos for each place for highchairs and strollers that would take this from being a helpful book to a genius one!I also feel more details on Brooklyn (so kid friendly! Such a cool place!) and the excursions section would be great. And as one reviewer said, the pages do fall out if you use it a lot. Nothing some tape can't fix though.Tips: this book in addition to mommy poppins NYC is pretty much perfect for making visits to Manhattan fun for our family.

One Star
It was hard to follow and didn't offer any sightseeing information for out of towners.

Useful and informative
After going over five or six book, trying to plan a trip to NYC with our kids, I found this book very useful. Some of the attractions/ recommendations were unique to this book. Great book for at home planning (not so much "on the go" though).

Impressive book packed with useful content
As a native New Yorker with kids, I am very impressed with this book. It highlights a number of my kids' favorite places to go and activities to do, and introduced me to some interesting ideas I hadn't been aware of. It is well organized, with comprehensive neighborhood-by-neighborhood recommendations. This is a valuable resource for visitors and locals alike.
