Very nice guitar at a great price
After reading multiple reviews over time for this guitar, I decided to take a chance and buy one. I am glad that I did. It is a beautiful, light weight guitar that sounds good through my amp. Because it was inexpensive, I can keep it out and handy for practicing. For less than the price of an entry-level brand name, you get a much better guitar. I took an even greater chance and bought a customer return, knowing it might have issues. It did. But the only issues were how the f-holes were finished and the depth of flame. The QA is apparently nonexistent. I have attached several pictures so that you get the idea. The ivory colored bindings were rough and, in one case, missing. The flame maple is very faint. This is likely luck of the draw, but I suspect no one is doing any supply QA on depth of flame. The binding and flame are cosmetic issues only but set your expectations accordingly. The good news is that the frets were great. They were well finished, smooth and level. The neck is straight. The action is fine. (The bridge is adjustable for those who want to tweak it.) The vine inlay was well executed but I have to say I prefer blocks or dot inlays. The hardware quality is on par with other brands. The tuners have held up fine. The humbuckers are balanced. The bottom line is that I do recommend this guitar. For the price point, you get a lot of guitar. As with all guitars bought outside a store, you will have to tweak it to your tastes. Beginners will enjoy the light weight and low price. (If you are inexperienced, get a set up to dial it in.) Experienced players will be amazed at the bargain - you can keep it as is or mod it to your tastes.

Not perfect finish all over, but for the price it's pretty amazing
It has a few rough spots in the finish, mostly around the neck joint, but for the price it was when I bought it will blow you away. Plays fine, I have found no uneven frets. No jagged fret ends sticking out to tear your hands up. It has a slightly chunky C profile which was perfect for me. Not super chunky, and not one of those annoying shredder D shaped. Just right. The frets do need a slight polishing but once you have it done bends are very smooth and no gritty feeling. I am not sure what the fretboard is made from, but it looks great in both color and feel. I added a little red mahogany stain which kicked it more towards a rosewood look, but up to you if you want to do it. Even the tuners are pretty decent. It stays in tune well enough for an old dude like me. The tone is surprisingly quite decent and has a nice range between treble twang and low end punch. I usually over improve many guitars, but so far I have modified nothing but polishing the frets and staining the fretboard. It is unreal they can make a guitar this decent and still sell it for this amount. If you're looking for a guitar to learn to play on, you could do a LOT worse for more money. Of course this is the golden age of the good cheap guitar. I remember when I was a young kid in the 70's. Cheap guitars were absolute dismal JUNK!!! This is no longer the case. I've bought Grotes, IYV's, and other $200 or less guitars in the last few years, and they have all been pretty well made.

Great guitar, not for novices out-of-the-box!
For under $200 this is a great deal, but only if you can accept minor finish flaws and inconsistent quality control. For the best experience with these, you need to be able to do minor maintenance and setup. Not suitable for beginners. I ordered this based on a few YouTube reviews that alerted me to the possible flaws. Amazon shipped me a case of six guitars! I only paid for one. I'm glad that I was was able to pick the best of the lot. All six were very pretty and all six had various amounts of leftover polishing compound and swirl marks. All six had inclusions under the clear coat. One had a dead tuner. All six fretboards were dry and the fretwork was not acceptable. Here's what I did to the one I kept: 1. Adjusted the truss rod. 2. Filed the fret ends. 3. Rounded the fret board edges. 4. Leveled and crowned 6 frets 5. Polished the frets. 6. Oiled the fingerboard with F-One. 7. Changed the strings and lubed the nut. 8. Adjusted the action. 9. Polished and cleaned the guitar. This is now a great playing, stunning guitar. I put two hours of bench time into this one. None of these problems are unique to this brand. I have seen the same stuff on Epiphone, Squier, Firefly and even Fenders out of the box. Some of it is just because of the changing environment as they are shipped from the Far East. The small inclusions under the clear coat is just sloppy, dirty paint work. Oh, I had to nearly fight to get Amazon to take back the five culls and not give me a refund. Honesty can be work! The bottom line is that I'm happy with this guitar. Carefully inspect the one you get and have a plan to deal with the minor issues and reject those defects you can't live with. The guitar itself is very light and resonant. I don't hear any buzzing and the neck is very comfortable . I love looking at it and the inlays, though not perfect, invite me to pick up the guitar and play. It is loud when unplugged and sounds good in the amp. Like any semi-hollow guitar it will feedback when pushed hard, but that's just another fun mode to use. The controls are easy to use and the guitar tuning is stable. Glad to have it and plan on keeping it!

ivy 6 String Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Right, Tobacco Sunburst (IPF-300 TSB)
Hello everyone. First of all, let us get this out of the way. When someone purchases a guitar (whether it is used, refurbished, displayed model, with minor imperfection, or a new one) at some point you are going to set the action, set the intonation, treat the fret board, file the fret ends, replace/modify the knobs/switches/bridge/strings/pickups/neck/etc. to your preference. It is no difference when you buy your vehicle. Eventually, you are going to change/add/replace/modify items on your vehicle to your liking. And that is fine. With that said, please do not count these components as a negative criticism towards these guitars. Let us just focus on the guitar itself. With minor tuning and neck adjustments, these guitars are ready to play right out of the box. As you know, minor tuning and neck adjustments are common with any guitar you purchase. The finish, quality, and construction of these guitars are awesome. The headstock is eye-catching. The neck is straight. The frets do not have dents/divots and are smooth (no sharp edges). The fret board is fine. The body is beautiful. The joints/seems are connected to satisfactory. The hardware (pickup selector or switch/output or input jack/volume & tone knobs or controls/bridge/pickups/pick guard/tuners/electronics/screws/nuts/strap buttons/fret or inlay markers/fret nut) are nice, functional, and tight. There may be some small blemishes or cloudy finishes here and there, fret board might have some kind of dye on it, but nothing really significant that would cause you NOT to play the guitar immediately. I’ve made NO modifications or changed any components on this guitar and had no major issue with feedback noise, guitar getting out of tune from hours of play, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. Again, everyone has their option on what they consider feedback, guitar out of tune, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. And that is okay. It also varies on the equipment (amps/stacks/pedals/cables/etc.) you use and how you play these guitars. I did notice the item is listed as “ivy,” but the head stock is listed as “IYV.” In conclusion, these guitars are attractive, feel great, look fabulous, sound terrific, entice you to play them and definitely fun to play. I am sold, and I am a HUGE fan of the IYV Guitars! I wished I could have purchased the earlier models when they first came out. If I had the money, I would buy all the IYV models. For an electric guitar under $200.00 and with no shipping fees, these guitars are an excellent investment! I will say it again. Not only are these guitars gorgeous, but they are also a pleasure to play. I hope IYV will continue to produce new models or have older models available because I am excited in purchasing them in the future. Thank you IYV Guitar company/staff for producing this magnificent product!

Outstanding value for money, especially considering how great customer service was!
So look, when I ordered a 240$ guitar from Vietnam, (or wherever they’re made), I expected at LEAST quite an intense process to set it up. Nope. Quarter turn on the truss rod, and the action was *perfect.* The intonation, as far as I can tell, is spot on. All of the electronics function as they should. I mentioned customer service because with my specific guitar, (I’m sure they vary a bit and most likely this isn’t an issue on all of them), I had a rusty bolt on the bridge pickup. It works fine, but because I’m worried I may eventually need to replace it I contacted Amazon and they refunded me without hesitation an amount that would cover an aftermarket pickup to replace the one with a rusty screw. I did NOT expect that, I was more just trying to relay information to better quality control for other buyers. Like I said, it works fine and it’s just one rusty screw, but I love the guitar so much I don’t want to even stand a chance of the pickup going out! There are very minor cosmetic issues like a small gap at one part of the inlay and a little dent on the maple veneer under the clear coat, but for the price, I’m just astonished at how well it plays and how good it sounds. No fret sprout, humbuckers that don’t sound the least bit muddy, perfectly straight neck with 2 minutes of truss rod adjustment, and it even seems to come with good strings! Paired with my monoprice 5 watt tube amp that I bought on Amazon as well, I’m back to enjoying plucking around and jamming again. I’ve played on all types of expensive gear; hand made guitars, vintage tube amps, hand wired pedals, but with a new baby and a desire to save money, these products have made me feel like I’m not missing out on the real tone that I’ve come to expect from my gear and I don’t even feel bad for spending 240 (before refund) on a guitar and 160 on an amp. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Get em while they got em!

Impossible to intonate
Great price for such a well made instrument. But, you get what you pay for. Tuners are junk, the 1st string tuner is slightly defective. The nut should be replaced by a professional, at least on mine, as the string height is way too low ,creating a fret buzz. I Replaced the stop tail bridge with an adjustable stoptail to try to dial in each individual string, which still didn't make much of a difference in setting up the intonation. This guitar just won't intonate properly even though the neck is perfectly straight . I was hoping to be able to do live performances with this instrument, but never will due to intonation issues. If anyone has any advice as to how to set this instrument up to correct the problem please comment.

Absolutely phenomenal guitar for the price!
Just wow! What an absolutely phenomenal guitar for the price. I actually wasn't planning on buying a guitar when I purchased this. I found it on sale for $167. I was looking for a hollow-body guitar but was just window shopping. I was planning on spending A LOT MORE MONEY. When I saw the reviews for this and the price, I decided to take a chance. Man, I am not disappointed. I'm going to start off like so many other reviews and say, it needs a little set up work out of the box. It played OK out of the box, especially for the price, but it needed some tweaking. If this is your first guitar, do yourself a favor and get it set up properly! If you know how to do your own setup work, don't hesitate, this guitar is awesome. If you don't do your own setup work you can always learn on Youtube. Otherwise, spend an extra $50 to $75 and get it set up at your local guitar store. Once this thing is set up properly you won't believe how nice this thing plays. The first thing I adjusted was the truss rod. The neck was loose, and I've read several reviews stating the same. Once I got the neck adjusted it was like a completely different guitar. Once the neck was straightened out, I replaced the factory strings with some Fender 250s. The factory strings are OK and sound great. The Fender strings changed the sound up a bit and gave me a little better action too. I haven't made many bridge adjustments yet, but I'm also planning on doing some bridge tweaking and lowering the action a bit. The action is a little high for my tastes out of the box. I didn't make many adjustments because I was playing slide/bottleneck guitar with it when I first got it. Now that I have it in standard tuning and playing more fingerpicking and traditional playing, I'm going to lower the action a bit. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH! Once you make a couple of adjustments to this guitar, you'd never know you paid under $200 for the thing. It just plays great. It just has the look, feel, and sound of a much more expensive guitar. None of the parts really feel cheap. Pickups have decent sound. I'm just playing through a $40 sawtooth practice amp. The tuning pegs rotate smoothly. THE GUITAR STAYS IN TUNE. I love the ivy neck inlays. I can't believe how beautiful the guitar looks. My friends can't believe I bought it for $167. It plays and sounds like a guitar which would be much more expensive. I'd honestly be shocked if you could find a better guitar in this price range. Now I can take the money I saved on this and buy a nice resonator guitar. If IYV made resonators, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. The fit and finish is OK. The paint looks great but there probably will be blemishes. I found a run by the sound hole, but nothing major or super noticeable. I'll take a couple imperfections in the paint considering how well this thing plays and sounds. I really love this guitar for the price. I don't think you can find anything better in the under $300 range.

Amazing guitar for this price
First let me say this is my 3rd IYV guitar. They are a great dollar value with really good workmanship. I have noticed a few things they all had in common. One thing is you will want to tighten up the truss rod. When you remove the truss rod cover use the Allen wrench that comes with the guitar and tighten the truss rod. Amazingly these guitars are built with a dual action truss rod which means when you start to tighten the truss rod it feels like it’s actually loosening but it will then start to tighten. Continue to tighten the truss rod and make sure it’s tight. That’s been all 3 of these guitars I purchased. Next they all do have some minor finish flaws but at this price I’m not complaining. Really the workmanship is fantastic. I believe there is a lot more hands on work on these guitars than the name brand ones I grew up with and played my entire life. The finish despite the minor flaws is great. The inlays are really installed perfect and while not real mother of pearl they look good. The tuners are smooth and the guitar stays in tune. It actually has a hand fitted bone nut. The pickups are CNC wound and sound fantastic. Overall hard to believe this price. After adjusting the truss rod and also lowered the bridge pickup this baby plays like butter, has a great tone to it and is strikingly beautiful for this price incredible isn’t it.

No pesa nada.

Attractive instrument with warm vintage sound, but quality control is disappointing
I ordered this guitar at the end of March, but decided to hold off on writing a review for a few months to see if any issues arose. Aesthetically, it’s a beautiful instrument that’s based on the PRS semi-hollow design. Manufacturing quality is a bit of a mixed bag, however. The basic build is very well done and feels surprisingly solid, but the finishing work is often disappointing. Appearance: This is a bit of a faraway blonde. At a distance it looks like a 10, but the closer you get the more flaws you see. The sunburst finish is lovely, and the maple veneer is done well, but there are lots of problems. Mine has multiple drips of stain on the front that were left on and just clear-coated over. Someone also left behind a thumbprint on the neck in silver paint (or possibly polishing compound) that, again, was clear-coated over. The F-holes are poorly cut, and they used a lot of epoxy filler to fill in the holes. The inner cavity just has paint blobbed on and left to run down the wood; it’s clear this was done after assembly (rather than before, as it should have been). Build quality: The basic luthiery on this guitar is actually quite good. The neck is nicely set, and everything feels solid. The semi-hollow body is better than I expected at this price. I was a little disappointed with the fretboard though, as it arrived covered with a white powder that was difficult to get off. The wood was also very dry and badly needed conditioning. That said, the inlay and fretwork were both quite good. Electronics are a bit hit or miss. The volume and tone pots respond smoothly, but the pickup toggle is very cheap and will need to be replaced before long. The truss rod is a tad sketchy, too. I did a minor adjustment today, and you can hear the wood in the neck crackling and creaking much more than with most guitars. I think part of that is the thick finish, but it doesn't inspire me with a lot of confidence. As I said before, the main issue I have is the inconsistent finishing work. The F-holes are extremely rough on the inside, and the binding is poorly done in many places. There are also masking issues where the paint bled through the tape and was just left. I noticed a few examples of finish cracking as well...on the lowest layers of the clearcoat. That obviously occurred in the factory and was just sprayed over. It’s sad to see, because if they stepped up their game in that department, this could be a pretty sweet little guitar. Playability: The neck is a tad chunkier than I expected, but it’s actually quite comfortable once you get used to it. The thick gloss poly finish isn’t quite my cup of tea (and it won’t appeal to anyone who prefers a satin neck), but it’s actually not too bad. The bridge is simple but stable, and the intonation is decent for a wraparound design. It’s comfortable on the hand, and it responds well to palm muting. I was also very pleased with the tuners, which are far better than you find on most budget guitars. Sound: The instrument’s natural voice is somewhat flat and unenergetic, which is noticeable when you play it acoustically. It doesn't have a lot of zing or resonance. Thankfully, the pickups save the day. They have a worn-in vintage sound that reminds me of PAF or JB humbuckers. The high end is nice and round, and the lows are pleasantly mellow. If you’re looking for high output these aren’t going to deliver much of that flavour, but if you want something more akin to a warm Slash-style tone, these sit comfortably in that ballpark. They’re warm and smooth, and can cover rock, hard rock, blues, and even jazz territory without any difficulty. The toggle has three positions, and each setting has a distinct (and usable) timbre. Conclusion: At $292.94, I think this is priced fairly. Most of the budget has clearly been spent on cosmetics, and I don’t think that was a bad idea. It’s a lovely instrument, but the disappointing finishing quality is going to cost it a star. These guitars certainly won't cause Paul Reed Smith any restless nights, but they could be a very nice, affordable addition to a budget rocker’s arsenal. This has issues, but it’s a good little guitar for the money. My rating: 4 stars

Amazing
I received this guitar in nothing more than a one layer cardboard box. Believe it or not, it was in perfect shape out of the box. This guitar is amazing. The neck is straight. The action was perfect (low) out of the box (exactly as I use to set action on my other guitars: at 12 fret => high E =1mm ; low E : 1.5mm). Intonation right on pitch. I changed string from 10’s to 9’s and intonation is still right on. Truss rod works fine but anyway no adjustment was needed. Bridge pickup = 12.5 ohm, and neck pickup = 9.5 ohm. Both pickups sound great. This guitar has a very good sustain. Maybe because of the wraparound bridge. I you prefer bigger strings, bigger action or bigger neck relief no problem. There is room to adjust any settings (intonation, truss rod, action). Nut slots are a bit tight for 10’s but perfect with 9’s. Let me tell you, QA guys at IYV know how to setup guitars. The fretboard edges are slightly rounded and make the playing very confortable. Fretwork is perfect. No high spots. Fret ends well dressed. This guitar is amazing. So... I polished the frets, oiled fretboard, put the strings, clean the guitar and... rock on! This IYV can proudly stand beside my Strat, Jaguar, Ibanez, Les Paul. 260$ incredible. Good job IYV 👍
